Mary Ellen, I always look forward to a new month and a fresh start in my planners. Last month, I started a junk journal where I could just decorate pages, add quotes, stickers, etc. My brain fell into a fog, and I couldn't bring myself to finish so many pages. I felt so bad, but I came to the realization that I can always go back because the goal was to experiment with new techniques, textures, and not feel pressured to write-just have fun.

I almost got scared you were giving up the happy planner. But so happy you didn’t. Guess what 2023 was my year to complete a whole year of planning using the Big Happy Planner because you used it and seemed to have planner peace. I got Planner Peace!!!! Love the Big cause I write big. I did get the happy in Paris big in July and can’t wait to use it. I did add a skinny classic that will be my gratitude journal. Thank you for all the years of decorating ideas. ❤️

I have used Hemlock and Oak for three years and absolutely love this planner. It will lay flat once the binding is broken. Take each month and push the book down and run your hand down the spine. The paper and spine will be trained to lay flat.

I've been seeing more and more people using Hemlock and Oak. My major interest is if writing in the middle few inches is annoying like it is with a coil bound planner. My favorite thing about the disc bound system is taking off the page when I am writing on Wednesday and Thursday plus cutting stickers that are on edges of the page. I made a daily planner by taking the mom block pad from Happy Planner and punching the edges, adding to an old set of discs and covers.

I am moving away from H & O because after 6 months, my planner does not close anymore, stickers made it too voluminous. Can’t imagine what it would look like after a year! Also, the covers are not plastic based and have been stained.

I wouldn’t use a lot of stickers in any bound planner. I don’t decorate my daily for work. Just writing

I use the Hemlock & Oak disc inserts! I looooove them and have found that they’re the perfect compromise because you still get the paper quality and layout but the ease of discs. I also use a mix of the daily and weekly depending on what I need

I am using the same checklist layout starting in July! I I tried verticals before but had a hard time with a regular vertical. I had outgrown my classic dashboard so was using an undated since January and I'm moving into the dated since it worked out. I loved the dividers and how neutral the inside was.

I am switching from classic dashboard back to classic vertical for the same reason you mentioned - I like the week to go across. I also feel it is easier to decorate. 😊

My newest healthy habit is giving up meat and going mostly plant based SPECIALLY after watching “Eating You Alive” very eye opening. So far I’ve been plant based for a month. Also that new A&O is gorgeous!

Hey! This is my first time commenting and I love your videos. I just wanted to add a suggestion for your catch all planner. If I’m not mistaken I believe happy planner has mini sized to do list or you can make them. I think it would be good to use the vertical planner and just get the mini checklist to keep on that week and you can take it out and move it around as you need it so it isn’t permanent and you can still decorate as much as you want while staying productive. Just a thought ❤

If you want to use a guided journal but like decorating a blank page like in your creative journal; I think you should try what I do. I had the same conundrum so purchased a guided journal and I write my answers in a separate journal that I decorate. It is especially useful if you are someone like me who might tend to start and re-start guided journals or use them longer than designated. Hope this was helpful and absolutely love your videos!!!

Also side note: I use the side panel for grocery list and when Im overwhelmed I just do decorative dating and that helps.

Random after reading a thing in your one planner. I have TMJ issues. It can lead to headaches, dizziness, vertigo, fullness in the ears, ringing in the ears, clicking of the jaw, pain while eating super chewy things (think Panera baguette), wearing down of the teeth from grinding, overdeveloped jaw muscles, and several other things. Your dentist should be able to tell if you have worn down your enamel from grinding. A lot of people use a night guard from their dentist to help and it does slow the progression of the wearing down of your teeth, but it doesn't always get rid of the other symptoms. I have been looking stuff up a lot about it. There is obviously ibuprofen for the pain, eating a diet of soft foods during a flare, Botox injections to prevent your jaw from being able to be fully closed, sleeping on your back, avoiding resting your hand on your chin, having good posture, and physical therapy. The thing that bugs me the most is that often times, my dental insurance says it is a medical problem and my medical insurance says it is a dental problem and neither want to cover it!

Yes I do believe I have TMJ, I have many symptoms of it. including a misaligned jaw ugh. Yeah the cost of treatment is what is deterring me, since it seems like home remedies are just as effective. But may end up going

I’m a list maker and I don’t use weekly layouts-I need to see the whole month at once. So I am switching to HP’s monthly layout so I can just have pages of lists. I hope I find peace there.

After using the big teacher layout as my main planner for the last two years, I am switching to the big checklist layout. So, yay, hopefully you'll have good decorating tips. I got very used to just decorating along the bottom and sides of my teacher planner, so that's probably how ill start with the checklist layout. I'm excited to have a sidebar again, though.

I have found the elusive planner peace for my social media planner with the happy planner teacher planner though I do have to put the dates at the top so wish HP would do that as a layout. It is functional for me and I’ve got the hang of decorating it. I’ve also been using filler paper for my creative journal. I remember you using the Miss Maker checklist layout. Interested to see how you get on this time. I’m happy you’re back in a vertical layout. Oh and how gorgeous is that notebook - perfect for you! Thanks for sharing! 👍

I haven't used Hemlock and Oak, but I have been tempted. Seeing your video, I may take the leap and get a daily one for work to keep me more focused. I find that I don't really block off my time properly when I use my weekly planner, and mix my personal and work stuff.

The binding on the simplified planner is called wire-o. It’s a wire, which is why the why the paper catches. The wire is too thin for the text block. Guarantee the book will start separating at the top or bottom of its binding edge by the end of the year. I work in print and I always try to talk my customers out of using it. 😂

Love your new lineup, can't wait to see more in these planners. I do agree with that feeling you mentioned at the conclusion. That Hemlock & Oak should be a nice breath of fresh air, as I see it ! The B5 is one of my 2 favorite size for journals ( the A& O 8x8 is the other one ), as I need more space than the A5. I write bigger , may be that's why!

I have seen you get papers for lists, put them in every week that way you still have the vertical layout and you will have a little more to decorate and you don't sacrifice space in your list. Or take some note paper and punch it or printer paper or something you have lots of options! Good luck will look forward to seeing how everything turns out! Love watching you content! ❤❤❤❤❤

Hi Mary Ellen, watching your video tonight I think the checklist layout seems more like what you like to do & close to the way it sounds like your brain works 😅! I hope it works out for you and want to hear later how it worked out for you! There is another RU-vidr: Squaired Plans” that has a schedule using the grid format with time blocking like you mentioned that you used before, and you may like her format & then see how it can work for you too. I’ve used Hemlock and Oak off and on for a few years. Love that they recently announced a horizontal layout, because their vertical was not enough space for me. So considering it again for 2025.

Hey Mary Ellen, have you considered buying a mini photo printer? Lots of people us them fornprinting out their book covers for their book journals and they come with sticky paper to print them.out on. You can also use it for your creative journals and memory keeping too. Judt a suggestion so you don't have to wait to print your book titles out so long. Nothing wrong with it if you don't mind waiting just a suggestion. I know alot if people like the Canon Selphie mini photo.printer and other brands like HP sprocket, Kodak mini photo printer ect. I wanna but one to for printing pictures to add to my memory keeping amd Journaling. And mabe use some for planner spreads too. Another great video going down in history from my Mary Ellen ❤😊
