Firstly, thank you for being brave and sharing your life changes with us. I find you to be such a hopeful, lovely, intelligent, strong, vulnerable, articulate, passionate, creative, person. Your publishing of a book, and 5 poems in July is incredible. Your new novel chapter by chapter put up on Patreon sure started out complex and original. This group of July books sounds excellent so I'm off to buy those that i don't yet have. Cheers.

No worries on your voice! I'm starting my transition next month. It's my bday this month (August) , but I have to wait till September to celebrate it. I am getting a binder. I didn't even know those existed till this year! I can't wait. I will probably cry when I get it. I am non-binary and it's nice to see your changes. It's encouraging to me, personally! Seeing the process of others like me makes me feel more courage to make the changes I always wanted.

Ahhh this is so exciting! I’m so happy for you! I want to do more videos about the trans experience in order to both celebrate and normalise our existence 💜

@merissamakesstuff Just a note since I happened to see your comment, my enby kiddo had a hard time with their binder because it restricted their ribcage, it was really uncomfortable and they weren’t able to do any kind of exercise. So we started using transtape, and they’re liking it much better. It can be worn multiple days (vs. 8 hours for the binder, which also was important for them, not having that time off), and they say it’s much more comfortable. Wishing you luck on your journey!
@merissamakesstuff
@merissamakesstuff Месяц назад
@@Elizabeth-Reads oh yay! Thanks. I appreciate the tip. I'll look into those, too. Didn't know i can only wear the other 8 hours. I feel uncomfortable even when I'm alone sometimes, so getting to wear it longer would help me.

@@WillowTalksBooks yes! When you can, you totally should! I only found out what agender is a year ago, because of youtubers talking about it. I thought I was stupid for not wanting to be a man, but still hating that I have female parts. Then, I saw a post somewhere with the word agender and I cried cuz I thought, "all these years, I was not alone!"

I did notice your voice; but due to my ignorance, I thought that was something that happened physiologically from taking pills. I had absolutely no idea that a person could learn how to modify their own voice. Mind blown! Thank you for sharing your personal journey. All the cis peeps like me need to be more informed on the topic so as to spread compassion and understanding more confidently and that starts with educating ourselves and you are a great teacher. I know you don't do that as a profession anymore, but I think you have a natural gift for communicating effectively.

Thank you so much, and there’s no shame in not knowing these things! I remember getting into a chat with a Black friend a few years ago about hair care and realising I had never given a thought to the ins and outs of Black hair until that moment! Since you want to know more, though, I actually don’t take pills. HRT in pill form can be dangerous and hard on the liver. I take is as a transdermal gel that soaks into my skin and it’s super safe and easy :) Trans men’s voices drop on T but trans women’s voices can’t be raised without training

As much as I love horror, I understand needing a break from it and finding solace in fantasy. I do think it is cathartic, but once the catharsis is done, you're often left fragile and in a state of nihilism, which can be tricky when you tend to ruminate and hyperfocus (which I do). Same with audiovisual media. After watching Eden Lake for example, I felt a desperate need to binge all the fantasy films I grew up on, namely Legend, Willow, Labyrinth, Ladyhawke and such 😂

Please consider checking out In The House In The Dark Of The Woods by Laird Hunt, I think you'd really enjoy it! I read it at the start of the year and am desperately waiting for the first days of autumn for a reread. Its full of bizarre characters, wicked women and a quiet, creeping dread that's delightfully horrible. Your voice has a lovely quality to it; soft without sounding asthmatic and bright without being shrill. It is such a wonderful thing to watch someone grow and bloom ❤

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA holy shit! your voice!!!!!! :DDD As an enby who's done self-taught voice training in both directions, training femme voice is *so much harder* than masc. I got the benefit of hormones helping me out with my voice, and just maintaining the muscle memory and making adjustments to be able to use my femme voice when I need to is so hard - I can't imagine how challenging it is having to learn it without already knowing what that voice feels like in your body. I'm ✨in awe ✨of how much progress you've made in such a short period of time AND getting 3 publications this month?! Fucking amazing ❤

I love hearing you discovery of how you want to emote. I can't wait to hear where you end up. Finding that true voice. The breathy voice is nice. I use to work at 999 in America (9-1-1 where is your emergency?) I would listen to play back to get information as well as occasionally being used as an example for classes. I am not a fan of how I sound. Sometimes it is like you would think a diminutive rodent does. People use to call me Sir. A lot. Then apologize, cause my voice is not masculine sounding. But I took it as high praise, due to the respect they gave that title. My Dad taught me as a child how to professionally answer a phone. I also use to love listening to the secretaries at his University answer the phone so i model my voice after that. My current job i am the main person answering the phone and will put on that voice. It is really funny to see my coworkers faces when I do this. I may sound like a diminutive rodent but a very professional one.

I really appreciate you talking about your voice work. I’m shocked at how much people don’t understand that we can change our voice as we can change other things about ourselves through such things as plastic surgery or cognitive behavioral therapy and it’s perfectly a fine and appropriate thing to do especially as it ties self esteem or self improvement. I know this having had extensive speech therapy as a child from about 4-7. People seem to understand that, correcting a speech impediment, but not realize that it’s applicable in many other ways. Males who are bothered by having Gay Voice, if they don’t like that, it can be changed. As you say it’s not easy, it’s work, but all things worth it take work. My biggest pet peeve is Vocal Fry, which can be corrected with speech therapy and I actually feel should be. There is no reason Vocal Fry should exist and it needs to be adamantly eliminated. It serves absolutely no purpose and can only hurt the person who continues to maintain it. It’s subconsciously learned, but can be undone.

I really appreciated what you said about pubs in "Managing" I asociate both pubs and alcohol with male violence and stay away from them... I am currently reading "Toward Eternity" and love it. I might finish it today in the last day of Julay. P. S. Are there any lessons to get rid of a heavy accent? For some reason I read tho horror books out of the sixties and didn't enjoyed both. First was "The Other" which big reveal was easy to guess in advance, strange enough I really liked other novel by the same author when I read it as a teen. Other one was worse, I was so uncomfortable reading dome parts of it, it aged really badly in my opinion. It was specialy disapointing as "Ritual" was a inspiration for "The Wicker Man" which I love. I like "Rosemary's baby" so I can't have a problem with all horror novels from that period, but those two wrre exhausting.

You're voice is sounding a lot more feminine! As a trans man when I initially heard about voice training, looked up some videos and realized I had no idea what they were talking about and my voice always did the opposite of what I was trying to do so I gave up but I also knew as a trans man it doesn't really matter. The things the voice trainers would say were so confusing to me. You're voice sounds much more feminine! Good luck with the process!
