ONE of the biggest factors that drove our decision to move from Hawaii to Texas, without any relocation assistance from my work, was Texas’ approach to education for our kids during the pandemic. I woke up one morning and realized that Texas kids were going to be the leaders of my kid in the future if I sit back and choose to stay in paradise. As a responsible parent I couldn’t let that happen. I called my realtor and said let’s place my home on the market and two months later we arrived here and now we are an even more proud Texans. I knew we made the right choice to move here.
Same here I just moved from Washington State last month were they had my son for the whole year in the house with home learning which was pretty weak education while I watch states like Texas, Idaho, and South Dakota shine in terms of how they handle public school education. A lot of students had to go to summer school because they were behind and because those education policies did not work. I am proud to be here in Texas as well.

What has been done at Tex Hill to improve the air quality and provide better air filtration? You've had MONTHS to work on it, and governor hot wheels has more funds to release to make it happen.... I am super curious what's been done with the federal money TX has received during the pandemic for schools.
Mandating masks and encouraging mask wearing through education and outreach are two very different things. AISD is encouraging mask wearing and also has onsite rapid testing on all campuses. Why doesn’t NEISD?
I did and I also contacted the Express News. This issue affects the entire community, not just the children. My neighbors who aren’t parents have no idea that the elementary school nearest us was built for 400 kids but has over 800 attending there now. It’s a health menace without Coronavirus. We need the Community to care about our kids.
What is the plan for schoolwork when children need to quarantine at home for two weeks post-exposure to a student who has been tested positive for COVID? How long will you require a child who tests positive for COVID to remain outside of school? How will you verify that? Can masked children be in different classrooms than unmasked children? There are things you can do to protect our unvaccinated kids from COVID in spite of Abbott's no mask mandate.
yeah because they cannot mandate anyone in state buildings to wear a mask, its on the policy. Its not only for kids is for anyone on the premise of a state building.
Thank you for the update Superintendent. Although you have no authority to mandate masks in school, as a parent of young my kids under 12, I would appreciate you at the bare minimum, “encourage mask wearing in schools especially on campuses where young students less than 12 years of age are not yet eligible for vaccine shots and are vulnerable. The CDC and Am Pediatric Assoc have issue mask recommendations for ages 2 and older in schools due to the quick uptick in the Delta variant. My kids were virtual learners as of March 2020. This August will be their first year returning on campus. I am frightened for their safety. I feel with virtual learning not an option this year, at least communicate the use of masks and social distance in class until all the younger students had the opportunity to get their shots. It seems I am sending my kids back when Covid is at it’s worse than last year. Also, maybe at least separate the classes into mask wearing students and non-mask wearing students.
I hoped last year would help us learn and do better. And we seem to have gone way backwards. The experts have advice but the governor rules… so…. Good luck!

I don’t understand how the first amendment has anything to do with this issue? Americans have long considered public health to be generally desirable and passed laws and regulations to promote public health. You get a ticket if you don’t wear a safety belt and if you try to light a cigarette in a public building you will be mandated to put it out in most places. If you have a sexually transmitted disease you can’t intentionally give it to others. These activities aren’t protected speech so how is not wearing a mask free speech? If I send my child to school with lice the school won’t let her attend and I don’t think that arguing that it was a matter of free speech that I be allowed to give lice to all the other students would get me anywhere. I truly don’t get how this issue relates to public speech?
Masks are not political. They are personal protective equipment that is backed by science. If you disagree then at your next dentist appt or surgery tell your physician it’s ok for them to unmask - it’s their personal choice 🤦♀️. They do it to protect you.
@@expat8460 that is a shame. Public health measures save lives. Please have a talk with any ER physician or an ICU nurse, maybe they will give you some prospective on the grave matter at hand in our community.
