CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Chaos culminates as Judy (Kirsten Dunst) is struck by a barb from a Venus Fly-Trap, Alan (Robin Williams) and Sarah (Bonnie Hunt) are threatened by giant spiders, and an earthquake strikes.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jumanji is a visually elaborate fantasy about an enchanted board game that opens a magical portal to a jungle universe. Two young children, Judy (Kirsten Dunst) and Peter (Bradley Pierce), discover the game in an abandoned home and suddenly are greeted by Alan (Robin Williams), an adult who has spent his life trapped inside the game since playing it at age 12. Alan's only hope for freedom involves finishing the game, but this proves rather dangerous, as Judy, Peter, and Alan find themselves running for their lives from huge rhinoceroses, evil monkeys, vicious lions, and other terrifying jungle beasts. Director Joe Johnston, whose special-effects background previously came to good use in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, used groundbreaking computer imagery to simulate the thrills.

@@zachtheobald3802 well Alan was the one who opened the game and prepared it in the first place. He got out the tokens (or whatever they’re called) and dropped them and they stood up on the starting line because they were magnets. That was unintentional too

This is what the new Jumanji was missing, that sense of terror, suspense, and danger. I mean when Alan talked about the Jungle, it sounded like this place where if you didn't learn to survive, you were going to die, yet in the new one, it removes that horror aspect, where I never felt any real suspense, which was a real let down.

Chris Carter well,honestly, as a big fan of original Jumanji I must say that the new ones were amazing. Sure,it has completely different atmosphere then the first one,but it is fun, bright and real adventure.And it actually respects the original(there is even refrence to the place in the jungle where Alan used to live). I think you might like it.I was supprised ,too.Sure it is nothing to original, but I still laughed so hard watching it.

Earlier in the movie Judy was trolling someone regarding her parents’ death. But it was a coping mechanism to deal with her loss. In this moment of vulnerability she says her true feelings about missing her parents.

Well, ant least Alan was able to save everyone when he won the game. He managed to save Peter and Judy’s parents, his own family Sarah himself, including the town even Carl, so he did the right thing at a time when he returned home after being trapped in that ultra world for 26 years.

I've always felt sad for Judy when she was dying and when she and Peter misses their parents. Thank goodness Alan won the game and started all over again the right way. He even saved their parents lives. "NOOOO!" Lol

@KiamarMasterT I agree, it was sad when Judy died especially when Alan said "our only chance is to finish the game" since it was his turn to roll the dice and if he didn't get the right number to end the game, Judy's turn was next and she wouldn't of been able to roll since she died and that would mean that they never would have finished the game.

@@qwertasdcfghjklmo24z That's true. Also, Alan was lucky he got the right number on the dice to finish the game because without the right number, Van Pelt would have shot and killed him. Then it would be Sarah and Peter as the only survivors with Aunt Nora locked in the closet. Plus, with Alan rolling the correct number on the dice that helped to rewind everything to the past bringing Judy back to life having all problems gone and adult Alan and adult Sarah were able to help and prevent Judy and Peters parents from going on their skiing vacation realizing that was the month, day, and year when they died just so Judy and Peter won't be living with their Aunt Nora whom I'm guessing was their godmother.

@@afriendofbean Good points but I actually think they'd still win. They had developed such good teamwork and quick thinking that they'd find a way. They defeated Van Pelt with quite a coordinated plan earlier. With Judy being dead or incapacitated, remember that Sarah's rolls were either unintentional (1st and 2nd), she didn't pick up the dice herself (2nd and 3rd), or both (2nd). If Peter or Sarah put the dice in Judy's hand and tipped them out, the game would still accept it as Judy's roll. Judy isn't next anyway, Alan is. If he rolls 3 or higher, he wins. If he rolls 2, it's a double- he gets another turn! Alan shows a lot of cunning, if he saw it move two spaces he would not say "Jumanji" as last words but would have outwitted Van Pelt long enough to get in one more roll to win. Worst case, Alan takes a bullet and Sarah rolls the double from Alan's hand (Van Pelt won't shoot her), or Sarah takes a bullet and buys time for Alan to get the last roll. It would pick up from 1969 when they're still physically alive as kids, so it wouldn't matter if they're wounded or dead in the future as long as they win.

Tesia Blake it is. Jumanji was based on a children's book by Chris Van Alsburg, but it's a very short story, so he and the filmmakers made it a lot longer. The spiders are not in the book.

I just said that because of all the frightening moments this film has--a young boy being sucked into a board game in a rather horrifying way, all the animals, the plants, Van Pelt trying to kill our protagonists, the fact they need to finish the game to fix everything and the possibility they may not...I could keep going if you like. Still not as bad as a Don Bluth film, though.

As a kid, I had a huge crush on Kirsten Dunst. When she started dying from the poison flower barb, I would always get upset and wish I could help her. I’d have little fantasies in my head where I would actually jump in front of the barb and die for her. This scene messed me up so much when I was a kid.

You know when watching this movie all over again, I think those of us who grew up in the 90's and late 80's really didn't appreciate how much of a master piece this movie was. Look at the awesome power of that board game, and those who dare to play it. The new version of Jumanji I absolutely do not like, I get a lot of people like it, but to me I personally find it to be corny, and does not capture the raw magic like this movie did.

I don't think she does, Alan knows of the barbs because he says what they do earlier in the movie. Going by the movie, the only other human he's dealt with was Van Pelt. Van Pelt is pretty much invincible as part of the game so he doesn't count so I'm guessing Alan must've been shot by these barbs and had a pretty bad night in the jungle.

@@shannenknudsen7076 Yes she did which was a reason why she said from 1:04-1:06, "I wish mom and dad were here" with Peter agreeing. She looked dead at 1:18 and 1:36 and that was the reason why Alan said "our only chance is to finish the game" as soon as the floor broke realizing he had to finish the game and if he didn't roll the correct number on the dice, it would have been Judy's turn and she wouldn't be able to roll if she died. If you say she didn't die, it's probably only because you saw her alive in the future 1995 of adult Alan and adult Sarah having a Christmas party and that was only because when Alan won and finished the game, it rewound everything having all problems fixed. Plus, young Alan said to young Sarah, "holy smokes Judy and Peter" (he thought they were trapped and stuck in the attic) and young Sarah said "it's 1969, they haven't been born yet" while handing their game tokens to Alan as a way of showing that they never played which could be mean that Judy never died if she was never born.

They were really lucky the dice happened to land inside the game when it fell lol. Would of sucked if they lost it.

1:02 Anyone care to explain what Alan was doing here? I first saw this film when it originally came out 25 years ago, and I still don't get it. If you say he was trying to blow the spider away, thats just stupid: look at the size of it.

As a kid, for whatever reason i loved the earthquake sequence in this movie. I just thought the house splitting in half looked really cool! I hated the spiders though. Didn't like them then, and i don't like them now

So it's my belief that Judy died right before the earthquake. I may be wrong, but didn't Alan say that the flowers were highly toxic? He might've said something else, but I could've sworn he did say just that. Anyway, Judy was shot by the flower and maybe even fell all the way down the house. Either way, she is most likely dead. If anyone wants to correct my thinking, please do so. With great respect to Robin Williams, may he Rest In Peace, Jude (founder of Jude Corp.)

Yeah, I always thought she had died by the time he won the game. Her turn was after Allan's, so if he hadn't rolled enough, they wouldn't have been able to finish the game (presumably).
