GIANT PERCH IS OUR ICE FISHING PREY OF CHOICE and catching them in the Beautiful Mountains of Montana, makes it even more amazing of an experience.
I tell you this Patagonia Chartreuse colored jacket has some magical attraction power for Giant perch. You may not think so... but my brother has a way of popping the giants and making bright photos with this setup.
He was using the www.circletackle.com PANFISH 36" ROD with the KY-1000 reel by Circle Tackle as well.
These perch have big appetites, and we found that they were interested in both tungsten jigs and jigging spoons. We used Circle Tackle 7mm Tungsten Jigs on the Jigging Jaw Jacker and Stationary Jaw Jacker.
www.jawjackerfishing.com
On our jigging rods the most success was on the Northland Tackle Rattle Buckshot Flutter Spoon.
While we located a large amount of spawning kokanee along the bottom we also found a few Jumbo Perch mixed in with the salmon. The perch are big eaters consuming minnows, crayfish and salmon eggs.
Our biggest perch of the day was a hair shy of 14" and a great specimen from a beautiful mountain lake south of the border. My brother Dallas is fortunate to live in an adventure paradise. When I'm along, we get to explore some lakes in the area.
There really is no shortage of places to fish and fish to catch.
The perch in this particular lake seem to be roaming alone, hunting bigger food items. While it is challenging to find these sparse fish, it is possible. Using a combination of Jaw Jackers and hole hopping we slowly dialed them in.
Sonar is a huge benefit when searching for panfish and almost an absolute necessity if you plan on fishing these mountain JUMBOS.
Doesn't matter if you're at Cascade Lake or beyond you will never regret the addition of a sonar device to your bag of tricks.
Good luck out there this year!

Yeah we fished this same lake in the summer and caught some tanks as well. They were full of Cray fish actually. One we caught this time had three crayfish in its belly.

Can you find these rods in Alberta stores or is it online only?

I don't believe they are available in Canadian Stores. If you talk to your local store and connect them with Circle Tackle... who knows Maybe next season they would be. For now just online.

2:45 kokanee with spots?? Is this a Montana thing because I've never seen a kokanee with spots like that and Isn't having no spots one of the key identifying features of kokanne/sockeye, not to mention red coloration during spawning,
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures 6 месяцев назад
Google Kokanee and you will see there are some strains that are quite spotted along the back and tail region. i don't create the rules. I have caught Kokanee in BC that have spotting along the back and upper portion of the tail. Some of these do have a RED hue to them, but hard to tell with the lighting. It may be because of the lake which is ultra clear all year, the chemical makeup of the feed or the fact they spawn so young or that it is happening in colder temps under the ice. Who knows though. They're kokanee. If you saw the ones caught in summer they're the same silver bullets with limited spotting.

Why do you keep giant perch ? You are keeping spawning fish, I watched you take salmon and tie them onto your waste van. Your not a real fisherman
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures 6 месяцев назад
Perch are an invasive species in these mountain lakes of Montana. They have no limit on perch in this lake we were fishing. Generally, all males are sexually mature at 3 years; most females age 4 and older, or longer than 16cm are mature and able to spawn. They produce tons of offspring. So even if you keep a 16 cm female perch you are removing a spawning fish. We are also fishing in 40 feet of water and as you can see in the video the fish are suffering barotrauma with stomach protruding out of their mouths. They have a significantly reduced rate of survival catching them this deep, so you are better off keeping some for dinner rather than Catch and Release fishing for them at this depth. Our intention on fishing for them was for retention to eat. Usually if releasing perch best to fish less than 20 feet of water if they inhabit that depth. In this particular lake we have not found perch in shallow water. I'm not sure what you mean by you watched me tie salmon to my waste van???? Do you mean, "Waist Band"??? Are you this same guy from a few years ago and you just do not use english as a primary language? It's ok if you English is week. I think I can guess what you mean. You are referring to me fishing for coho on the vedder river fishing at Fishermans corner a few years ago. The one time I tried wearing a rope belt to tie my catch to my waist, so I wouldn't have to walk back to shore every time and leave them on the beach. I'm not actually sure why that's a problem and why you an issue with is besides you have trouble catching fish yourself??? I am a little innovative, I like trying new things and that belt was a failed attempt at saving me time so I had more time to fish when the bite was on. Didn't work though cause to hard to move in the water and spin around with them attached to you. I'm still not clear why it would be a problem even if I always kept the salmon on my Waist. You never were able to say why it was a problem. But I understand you don't speak English and may have trouble expressing yourself of giving a reasonable explanation. Guess what, I am a Fisherman and I fish a lot. I also catch many species of fishing on the ocean, lakes, streams, rivers, open water, frozen water... every time of the year I'm out there Fishing. I am not a Catch and Release Fisherman... I keep fish. Definitely got me there... I do kill fish and eat them, share with people, friends and family.
