I use the cyno module to see the red ring and make sure even the outer part is within the docking range, and by use i mean hold the cursor over it and view the red sphere.
Been out for a while & miss my JF. I appreciate this presentation MurdaMike - still learned some best practices - a lot of what I did was 'self taught' I wish I had know that bookmark at the gate trick! :) re: the cyno at the station - I always thought the spikes/antennas/etc. could bounce you like the station body.
I'm not a jump freighter pilot, just a freighter pilot flying a providence, but even just a cap freighter using bookmarks is VERY important (especially in Jita). I have multiple bookmarks around Jita which confuses them. I warp to a bookmark instead of directly to a gate or station, it makes them look for you.
Really nice video, if researching to become a Jump Freighter pilot. I'd love to see more of these class-style videoes. I've been made aware that with the current state of Lancers, as of 25'th of November 2023, that they are able to block your low-sec to high-sec transition (jump), even if you do all your precausions I've seen in this video. They don't even need to target you, they just point their lance in the direction of your location and with minimal effort, they will block your ability to do the jump. Is it something you have heard about and have any suggestions on how to mitigate? I personally do not know the mechanics of the Lancers, but how I'm told it, the they (including the Lancer) stay cloaked close to gate and when they see your Jump Freighter is incomming, they pop out and shoot (or whatever the blocking/interrupt ability does), denying you to do the jump.
More or less returning to Eve after a few years, still probably very much a newb pilot if you will. Wanted to ask/clarify that when you are using gates for the jump freighter that is only when you are about to enter high sec right? Before then you are using the cyno alts that you jump to and dock up while you wait for your timers, if I followed this right....
So why no mention of webbing alts? 2nd if you have a webbing alt then you dont need inertial stabilizers. You should also never take more than you can afford to replace which leads to making sure you have tank. Bulkheads is a must. If you do get caught having more tank means they need more dps to kill you fast enough before concord shows up.
I feel like you didn't listen to what was said about high sec travel and why he doesn't use bulkheads. He has gates bookmarked so he is landing on gates and instantly jumping. the only time his ship is vulnerable to high sec gates is the 12 seconds it takes him to align and warp. the instant that he sees any signs of trouble he uses his jump drive to jump back to low sec when traveling through high sec.
