What I love about this the most is the pure *love* in this performance. The audience was pretty weak and sure there were mistakes, but the smiles on their faces was gorgeous to see. Whether a hat dropped or a small timing mistake happened, they kept on dancing and smiling, because they are having the time of their life. Perfection wasn't on their mind, and they didn't seem to care about pleasing the crowd. They were having fun together as a group, and it was just heartwarming to see them smile up at each other and have so much fun. My heart is warmed right now~
the best thing about this video? Most if not all of the dancers were smiling in the video, they clearly enjoyed doing this. Mario is SUCH a beautiful game and this song is SO FREAKING good.
This song is optimism in musical form. I literally cried when this song played in the game. The last month has been absolute crap and everything about this game and this song has let me keep my chin up ;A;
ive watched this video a few times since it was uploaded and it never fails to make me tear up. it’s just so fun to watch. such a special game and wonderful song& performance. especially with how the world is at the moment, this has me yearning for 2017.
It’s honestly hard to describe Odyssey. The game makes me feel things I haven’t felt since I played Mario Galaxy, which was one of my first games and is still my favorite of all time.
if your first game was galaxy, just imagine us old folks who played the 64. Super Mario 64 will always be the best Mario game in my book. just like Ocarina of Time will be the Best Zelda game ever. Both games revolutionized everything.
@@johnnyn4776I mean yeah you could say that super Mario 64 was better at it's time then SMO is now (since 64 was the first 3D Mario and stuff) but I'd still say oot for it's time isn't as good as botw now, the open world they managed to build with that game in 2017 was insane.
leave it to nintendo to take a song with such wince-inducing lines as 'jump with me, grab coins with me, oh yeah' and turn it into such a lovable phenomenon that i have still listened to it every day since it came out at least once
It takes a really special skill to embrace the cheese so hard it becomes endearing. This song does it perfectly, and I mean that in the most non-hyperbolic way possible.
Universal needs to do this show in the New York streets of Universal Studios when the new Super Nintendo World opens there. Just add a girl dressed as Pauline singing live and top notch show. Also add a moustache and Mario hat to the T-Rex of Jurassic Park Rive Adventure at IoA.
I still remember back then, in my country there was a stigma that playing video game will make your children stupid and idiots (proud to my parents that supports my gaming hobby and proudly said that gaming help my english whenever colleague come to visit and asked why they allow me to game) . Also due to some illegal gambling disguise as arcade center became national news, games in arcade have gambling stigma attached since. Now,of course, all differents but I still feels distant to today gaming mass in my country, the most popular one are of course competitive online and mobile gaming, which I just not interested.
I remember my grandpa seeing mario on the wii and me and my siblings playing with him. He thought there was no way Nintendo could make a better Mario game. I wish you could’ve seen this game too Papa
Aww, I can't believe this performance happened 6 years ago. I hope that I can see it again personally on the 10th anniversary. I'll really cherish this performance forever. By the way, Happy 6th anniversary, Super Mario Odyssey!!! 🥳🎊
All this event is missing is Kate Higgins dressed as Pauline. Still this is pretty awesome. I wonder how long it will be before we see someone do the same thing at an anime convention? I wonder if any of the people dancing here were also in the SMO commerical as well?
That performance is so terrific!😀 Super Mario Odyssey is the best game I've ever seen. Even though I haven't played it yet, but there will be a chance that I will play it myself someday.🙂
I was there in NY, I remember that exact moment. And every time I see it again in video, tears fall from my eyes. This is such a masterpiece. Such a special moment. Lovely presentation. Just perfect. Thank you.
Why am I tearing up. I’m not sure what’s doing it, the energy and smiles on the performers faces or maybe just the pure crack they put in the song. I’ve not felt this much uplifting energy in a while, and they all killed it wow. Beautiful
Just a tribute for all those people we couldn't always see at the back, who put the same amount of effort in as everyone else, so that no matter what angle the audience looks and films at, they can still make it look spectacular!!!!
I watched this video when it came out but rewatched it just now. This time it brought me to tears. With the way the world is with corona and everything America has gone through, something as simple as this made me cry. A VIDEO GAME brought all of those happy people together, not judging by the skin of their color or anything, but enjoying each others company because of the love for Mario and Super Mario Odyssey. Idk, I'm explaining this right but I hope anyone who reads this getd what I'm trying to say. It's just great to see people happy together. The world may be in shambles but there are some lights out there. No, this won't solve the issues but it'll make going through them easier. Super Mario has probably given us all a childhood, and even now in adulthood it's helping us through. Thank you.
It's heartwarming to see that almost 30 years after moving Lady Liberty with an NES Advantage Controller in Ghostbusters 2, Nintendo is still able to party in NYC like it's 1991.
@@vchlopie9357 Looking back it's even stronger now. To think my comment was 3 years ago and I felt that way then shows how magical this time was. Im getting so much older now. There will always be new games to look forward to however. Looking back to the Wii era I was a little kid and I miss it so much too. Just makes me excited to see whats in store.
And with good reason! It was one of the best mario games PERIOD! Id say below the mario galaxy games, but above literally all the other mario games. It was just amazing on multiple levels, I loved it till the end.
If nobody else is gonna say it, I will, I commend the endurance of those dancers. Dancing in those clothes is not the easiest, and you get hot really easily
And there's still people saying that video games don't serve at anything, but seeing this I think otherwise because video games inspire people, and this is proof
Completely agree. Some people just take whats at face value and refuse to broaden their horizons and try things out. Im a fan of videogames, im gonna work on them, and I believe that they CAN be art.
Real damn! Maybe the others were behind and we couldn't see everyone's expressions. But he in the front row while he danced expressed all his happiness with his smile, his smiling state of mind while he did it. I couldn't take my eyes off him the whole time while he was also dancing along with the girl. All good but for me he seemed like the protagonist while he consumed that ballad. I don't know if it was because he was Asian or what but he seemed cool. (It's useless to specify that I'm not gay).
The thing is.... without the hat drop and the subsequent fabulous pick up- there would be this really short but noticeable 1-2 second gap of nothingness where the dancers are just running to the sides, waiting for the beat. Sis with the hat retrieval is truly the *real* super star.
