Pauline is the first damsel in distress, disappears for 30 years, (save for the Mario and Donkey Kong games,) and suddenly comes back as the mayor of a giant city. What an absolute icon.
This feels like one of those rare times Nintendo actually shows genuine appreciation for their fans beyond their money. This one moment feels like the “Sonic Mania” of the Mario franchise.
When Pauline does that little skippy trot dance, the music is playing a rendition of the background music of the original Donkey Kong arcade game and Pauline's dance mimics the 2 frame animation she had up there next to ol' DK. That's some loving attention to detail
5 years and still looks so new, Nintendo did an incredible job here, but somehow i feel nostalgic. Edit: 6 Years! 7 Years have almost passed and the game still brings joys to the fans, however its more nostalgic than ever, Nintendo surpassed their quality with this piece of art and i really doubt that they will ever exceed this in the future in their next console.
This level sent my soul into another universe. I cried through the whole thing. This level reaches into your soul and reminds you of every single memory you had playing a Mario game. I found myself wanting to continue but not wanting the level to end. An actual masterpiece.
@@alfredohumberto2222 If Mayor Pauline’s still at New Donk City @ Metro Kingdom from Super Mario Odyssey, then questions are: why isn’t her younger sister, Daniella Verducci Mario with her older sister, as a co-mayor, why can’t Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Tiny Kong, Funky Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Baby DK, Cranky Kong, Wrinkly Kong, and Candy Kong appear in New Donk City, and why can’t King K. Rool, General Klump, Krusha, and the Kritters (Green, Blue, Red & Brown) appear in New Donk City with Mayor Pauline?
This part isn’t just the most iconic scene in Mario Odyssey or even the franchise, but in video game history. New Donk City felt like a New Years celebration from start to finish.
This sequence feels like its pulled out of a Disney Animation, it's so whimsical. Nintendo is one of the few devs that make games that feel like they did at a simpler time. In today's super serious dark triple -A productions, Odyssey reminds everyone that a game doesn't need edgy dialogue ,guns, explosions or complex story lines to be good, at the end of the day all a game really needs to be is just fun.
I was in total shock to hear an actual singing character, and it's from Mario's original girlfriend, of all people!!!! Mario franchise looks out for their people! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@taylorsanada3180 at least Bowser will NOT get a chance to steal Peach! Luigi'll've to take care of Peach FOR Mario, while Mario FLIRTS Mayor Pauline, so there!
Freaking awesome, love that Pauline’s mouth actually moves while she sings and even dances, they seriously put so much love and devotion into this one level and I’m sincerely grateful that this game exists. Good job Nintendo, this is freaking awesome. And yes, from time to time, I listen to this song because it’s a freaking jam to listen to! ✨
Man, this part of the game was probably my favorite thing I've seen come from Nintendo in years. Its such a great homage to the history of Mario and recaptures the fun and happiness the games brought me as a child. Plus the music is fantastic, 10/10
Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough, @@jeremyzak654… *I WISH MARIO WOULD JUST STAY IN NEW DONK CITY INSTEAD OF BEING AT PEACH'S CASTLE IN MUSHROOM KINGDOM!*
Thirty-six years, literally dozens of games over about a dozen platforms, and we get a fantastic throwback homage in the middle of what might be the finest game in a series that defines video games for many of us. How can you not get emotional over it?
This game is such a gem. As always Nintendo makes a great game. I've never been so appreciative of a gaming company mainly because many of the games I've played as a child was from Nintendo. If you ever see this, you'll always be my favorite video game company 😁
I'm a 30-year-old man. I straight-up wept tears of joy when I played this. This part of the game was pure concentrated celebration and love for video games. I wish Iwata could have been here to see this game.
Yes. Same here. I'm 30 as well so we are the same age. My very first memories of playing video games are of playing Super Mario Brothers on my older brother's NES.
I’m so glad they brought Pauline back! It’s so random like someone at Nintendo was like: “hey do you guys remember Pauline from Donkey Kong?” and the other people were like: “woah! We forgot about her let’s make her the mayor in our new game!” Everyone at Nintendo: “Y E A H !”
Some of the dance, she mimics the 2-frame animation she does in the Donkey Kong arcade game, where she's hopping on her left, then right foot, and repeats. During that section of the music, the 25M stage music from DK plays in the background.
I honestly hope, in 2035, the 50th anniversary of Super Mario Bros, that there is a festival in New York City similar to this. It'll never happen, but, god, do I wish it would.
This is a letter of appreciation from Nintendo to all of us who grew up playing Mario. Thank you Miyamoto-san and everyone involved. And thank you to all you handsome gorgeous nintendo fans:)
This isn't a average game on a average console. This is Nintendo in it's pure glory. This game made me bring up tears and that smile, yes that smile we all had as kids when we got our very first Nintendo Console. Nintendo put so much work, heartblood and effort in detail in it like they never had before. I am proud to be a Nintendo fan, this is just amazing. It's like they bundled all Mario games together and made it come out perfect. I want to thank everyone who worked on this game, supports the game and I want to thank Mr. Iwata too, because he worked on it till the very end. May he smile from heaven. Thank You Nintendo.
The best tribute ever made to our beloved franchise. I remember crying all level long, so much joy. So much easter eggs. So much passion. Ah, I loved this game. And what a song. Thanks Nintendo.
Literally one of the best moments in video game history! Even my parent who played the original mario bros game watched me play this and were so happy!
It's a rare emotion that occurs few times in your life, having tears not from sadness but because of pure joy. That's what I felt during that awesome sequence
Why is that though? Like wtf is this feeling I just got curious and thought I’d watch it but man…. This idk I haven’t felt this feeling in such a long time this feels nice
Pauline's back and forth "see-saw" shimmy dance is actually her idle animation from her original appearance in Donkey Kong as she's waiting to be rescued by Mario.
I never thought a game this new could still bring such an emotion. But I got teary eyed playing through this, it's such a beautiful nostalgic tribute, the song is amazing, just so well done. Really cool way for the game to pay homage to Mario, the games that I've spent all my life playing
I actually caught that too when I was first played through it and just listened to the song. I actually laughed when I caught it because it shows how much they care about the fans and this game.
This is easily one of my favorite moments in any video game. It brought tears to my eyes and it was such a beautiful experience. Super Mario Odyssey is a masterpiece!
when I found out about Pauline, she instantly became my favorite Mario girl. Peach wasn’t really my favorite, even though she’s pretty and the iconic one. I really liked Daisy more than her. But, Pauline, she’s amazing! She needs to get more recognition today! (Despite her being in the previous games and all. She wasn’t a familiar character. At least with me) I hope Pauline appears more in future Mario games
The New Donk City Festival where Pauline is singing "Jump Up Superstar" is the video game equivalent of Fairy Godmother singing "Holding Out For a Hero" during the climax of Shrek 2.
Pauline really got kidnapped once, stayed close and got her own figurine from Mario (I forgot which game), kept to herself and ended up being the Mayor of a huge city. ICONIC
An ode to the past, a taste of the future, and a thank you for the present. What a treat this game and scene was. I remember dancing the entire time playing this part and my friends couldn’t understand why I was dancing and celebrating with joy. Neither could I. But reading the comments, I am happy to hear I wasn’t the only one feeling all the joys and love this scene encoded
Too poor to afford a Switch, but the first time I saw the Festival level on RU-vid, tears came down from my eyes. Can't imagine the emotion that you guys in first-world countries felt when playing it the first time
When the trailer that featured "Jump Up Super Star" first came out, I'm not afraid to say that I was watering my eyes like crazy. This was a perfect game!!
Going through this that very first time was so completely mind-blowing. Made me feel like a kid again, which Nintendo does better than absolutely anything/anyone, anywhere. Then the 8 bit stuff totally sealed the deal. What a masterpiece.
Woah, woah, woah. She thanks him all the time; she just has horrible security and can't quit getting captured. Pauline, on the other hand, got rescued ONCE and now she's the mayor of a whole city. Pauline is #goals
Man this whole segment brings back so much nostalgia from the early 2017 switch era. I remember being amazed at the switches hardware and the innovation in which were the joy-cons. Mario Odyssey lives in my heart as the best Mario and switch game. it’s crazy to think this was 5 years ago.
