Jimmy and I have been very bust lately getting our J&J Speed and Machine "Jumping Jack Flash" nostalgia front engine dragster ready for the track. In the last video, we tore down the Hilborn mechanical fuel injection and inspected it for any parts that need to be replaced. We discovered the fuel hoses were brittle and cracked, all of the o rings needed to be replaced, and the fuel nozzles needed to be replaced due to the wrong size for the combination being run. So, I ordered some parts and most of them arrived. In this video, Jimmy rebuilds the fuel lines and starts the reassembly in the injection setup. Off camera, we have already rebuilt the Hilborn cam driven fuel pump. Working with Jimmy on this has taught me a lot about mechanical fuel injection, but I have a lot more to learn!
Oh, something else I did that I thought was cool. Remember when we showed you how we are going to use the chassis to help vent the engine? I finished that up too. All it took was fabricating a mounting bracket, a Moroso vented "puke tank", and some reinforced vinyl hose. Speaking of that, check out the rare and vintage Wiz breathers it all attaches too!
This slingshot dragster has been a dream come true for me, and it is coming together exactly the way I envisioned it to. I guess reading all those vintage automotive magazines paid off after all these years. Pretty soon we will be lighting the candles on Jimmy's real fine 409 SBC, doing Jungle Jim inspired burnouts, and blazing down the dragstrip in style. Drag racing this rocket on wheels will be quite the thrill to say the least!
