Welcome back to Drifting South!
I'm enjoying my last week here on playa Juncalito before flying home to Alberta to visit with my family. We've had some nice days on the boat catching Bonita Tuna and finding some species that we've never seen before. It's been a very relaxing week and I'm so thankful to be spending my last few days here on my favourite Baja beach.
My next video will be my last here in Baja and it's feeling very bitter sweet. More adventures to come soon!
Thank you so much for watching!
Take care until next time!

Wow some interesting finds on that beach , she'll connected and that bone with a tooth lol. I never would have thought that those cactus looked like that wood inside either 😅. Looked like an awesome place and you had it all to yourselves. Those strawberries looked really delicious. Fresh shrimp cooked up like that had to be delicious, I'm a real fish lover I could eat it almost every meal I think lol. Great day fishing on day two some nice ones , real nice ones. The sea gulls enjoyed the meal when you were cleaning fish lol. Eating healthy 😋

My favourite part of cleaning fish is watching the seagulls and the pelicans go after the carcass. There were so many cool finds on that beach! Endless shells and so much drift wood. It’s not easy finding wood for fires in Mexico. Thanks so much for this lovely comment. I’m so happy you enjoyed the video!! Take care

Be careful for your trip home eh. It will be tough for you and Bret to travel solo. If you go by boat up to Rivers Inlet AND leave from the Texaco gas docks in Thunderbird Marina GIVE A BIG SHOUT TO MY LIFE LONG FRIEND, BRUCE FALKINS. He owns the fuel dock. Great video

Thank you so mucho!!! There’s a good chance we will be leaving from Thunderbird Marina again this year but usually we are leaving at first light. If I see Bruce I will say hi from Robin Patterson. Thank you for the wishes of safety. I know both Brent and I will do our best to travel safe. Take care!!

I'm not sure how you're anchoring the boat ashore. Let me share an old method that works good. Tie your anchor line to the bow as normal. Take a second 100' line and tie it to the FRONT of the anchor. This is how you pull the boat back to shore dislogding the anchor and retriving the boat and anchor together. When you want to anchor the boat in deep water, balance the ancor on the Bow. Keep the 100' line lose on the beach and give the boat a big shove goodbye. When the boat is far out off shore jerk the long line causing the anchor to fall off the bow and set itself! Now Secure the long line so if the anchor drags you won't loose the boat. Pull long line IN when you want boat back.

Awesome! Thank you for sharing that Charlie! Brent has been doing something similar and it’s been working well but we will give this a try. Hope you’re well!!

Are the Bonita good eating? I heard their oily and strong tasting?
@jenny_adrift
@jenny_adrift 6 месяцев назад
Honestly they aren’t our favourite. Its dry compared to the tender white bottom fish we are used to so we’ve been feeding our dog with it mostly. Her coat is amazing and she loves it.

Bonito are horrible plate fish. Too boney and oily.

Do you ever practice catch and release

I appreciate your concern. When it comes to Bonita in the Baja… no. We feed our dog with its meat and that fishing trip gave her about 3 weeks worth of food! We are very familiar with catch and release as we have both worked (work) at fishing lodges on the west coast of BC Canada. We’ve caught and release many salmon and other species. Also in the interior of BC when we fish Stillwater for trout we release 99% of them. I have caught and cooked a couple in my life. Check out my video that I’ll be posting tonight and you’ll see my catch and release skills. 💕🐟 Thank you for your time and your comment! Take care!!

I guess the concept of "catch and release" never occurred to you. You can't eat Bonito; they are far too oily and boney to eat. You both took far too many.

I understand your concern, and I appreciate you sharing your perspective. While we enjoy fishing, we also prioritize responsible consumption and ensure that all catches are planned and legal. Additionally, as our dog is a cherished member of our family, providing her with a balanced diet (that includes fish) is important for her health and well-being. We respect differing opinions on catch and release practices, and we strive to be conscientious stewards of the environment. I hope you can understand our viewpoint, and I respect your perspective as well.

LOL.. first of all people eat Bonito all over the world and in some countrys it's considered a delicacy like Japan.. and secondly they only took four and is well under the limit of 10 fish and furthermore the populations of Bonito are very robust especially in the Gulf... so before you come on somebody's page and leave a somewhat rude condescending and presumptuous comment do some research..
