It's June 2023 and Anthony gives the fourth tour of the 2023 season. The plots are tidy, Summer is starting. Have we caught up? Or are beds still empty? How many times does Anthony complain about magpies?
At Don't Crop Me Now we have 500sq.m of space comprising 1 full plot and 2 halves and follow a 'No Dig' method in raised beds. We grow a wide range of fruit, veg and flowers which supply our kitchen all year round. We are not fully self-sufficient, but we shop very rarely.

Lovely tour Anthony - you are quite good at this! 😊 Excellent camera work too, Rachel - I hope you are feeling better while working towards full recovery. ☺️ It can take a while to get past the excruciating pain!

First hope Rachel gets better soon ❤️‍🩹. And I can relate to the heat it has been min 24c here and next week 30’s with no significant rain since March. That is totally unheard of here in SW Canada 🇨🇦 normally we have rain loads in April. Everything looks fabulous though and you should have great harvests soon. Have a spectacular week, Ali 🌞🥵🇨🇦

Thank you for the video tour. The noise whenever magpies were mentioned were a little sore on the ears though. 😂

We missed the final bit about gooseberries in tubs to make them easier to maintain and harvest, some more complaining about magpies digging in the compost bins and the outro thanking you for watching. It was probably only a couple of minutes. Whoops. Thanks for watching :) The missing ending is here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8ifv9jBbuvI.html

Luckily, we have a good supply of owls and crows that keep the magpies at bay. Unfortunately, most areas are now bereft of gamekeepers cos reasons….. Allotment cats can help… and Owl nest boxes. Perhaps put some in your taller trees? Love your tidy plots. Puts my growing areas to shame! Know what you mean about oversupply. Can be overwhelming. I pressure can my beans if I’m not too exhausted by preservation projects by winter. Last year I was shocked by the abundant outdoor tomato harvest. Grew over 80 plants expecting one ripe truss per plant before blight set in which never came. This year I’m deliberately growing too many onions. I took fleece off around early May once the leaf miner had stopped their cycle and they got crushed by amorous pigeons! So on went the bird netting. Everything seems to need some sort of netting these days! Hope the sciatica improves. Thank you for inviting us into your food gardens.

So true about the netting! There are lots of tall trees around the perimeter of the grounds- unfortunately that is where the magpies live! It used to be pigeons, but the magpies have moved most of those on!

Sorry about the referred pain we label as sciatica. Many different back problems cause that massive pain. Lots of things help... keeping moving, (if that's possible), straightening your back by lying on the floor, or back to the wall, losing a few pounds can just tip the balance into reduced pain. And keep yourself entertained .. smiling and laughing, reading children's books, all help in pain relief. It won't be for ever.

Hey guys, how long did your plum tree and pear tree take to fruit? I got mine last year, with no flowers or fruit yet after 2 seasons.
@DontCropMeNow
@DontCropMeNow Год назад
3-5 years - depends how old the tree was when you planted it :)
