This is a longer, less edited version of the derecho that rolled through Tulsa, OK in June 2023. It's still 3 clips, but less cut down than the first version I posted. I thought I'd deleted the original videos I got, but found them saved on another computer.
There were no tornadoes in the area on this night, just high winds, rain, hail, and a lot of lightning. We were out of power for 9 days in total. Some people were out for two weeks.
I've seen more damage from tornadoes, obviously, but in our area you don't normally see this kind of damage over such a wide swath.

Great video, I will echo others when I say thank you so much for not screaming and just allowing the video to roll with sound of the storm. It was a surreal experience. I was in Broken Arrow heard it coming. like a distant low flowing aircraft, blowing transformers lighting up the sky and watched it as it blew through. Great video, well done!

I remember seeing this on the weather app before it happened, I skimmed by it thinking it was a normal storm, boy was I mistaken It started as rain and thunder, but it quickly escalated, tornado sirens were off and on, and then the storm seemed to settle down, and about 3 minutes later, within seconds, the winds picked back up, even worse, the winds were so intense that a transformer from across the street from us exploded and set the house on fire that was quickly extinguished by the rain. The tree in my backyard crashed into our back porch roof, literally folding it like a taco. We were without power for about 8 days, and the storm hit somewhere around 12PM-1AM and lasted until early 2AM (This happened in Tulsa, by the way) And it was the worst storm, and scariest I've ever been in.

Cedar Rapids, Ohio had an even WORSE derecho back in August 10, 2020! That one blasted the town with winds of 140 miles per hour! I figure that if the Father's Day 2023 Derecho in Tulsa had winds like THAT, instead of "only" 100 mph, then not only would the ENTIRE city have had no power for at least 2 weeks; but during those two weeks, Tulsans would have had a VERY CLEAR view of the Milky Way! Usually, the Milky Way is completely washed out by city lights. However, with an entire city without power, the people therein would have been treated to the same view of the Milky Way that the ancients enjoyed.

Something like this happened in 2013 and I didn't realize what it was until the next day. So many people in Tulsa were without power for an extended period of time. I remember my boss at the time was staying with friends because it took 2 weeks for her to get power back. I was lucky enough to live in an apartment so I only lost power briefly. I was sitting outside through 100mph winds that night. I would do it all again if I could, I miss Tulsa very much!

I’m sad that I was at work at the time and didn’t get to see the actual storm itself but did see the aftermath of which was my trucks hard tonneau cover ripped off it’s hinges, thrown over my truck and across the street into a field.

I'm afraid that, one of these days, we might experience what I call a Super Derecho! This would be a derecho with straight-line winds of at least 200 miles per hour -- basically the equivalent of an EF-5 tornado! I figure that some of the antecedent conditions for such an extreme severe thunderstorm complex would be temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, and dewpoints in the mid to upper 80s. While I don't think that kind of temperature/dewpoint combo is likely to occur in today's world, it might well occur in a warmer Earth, especially if some heat wave's heat dome extends through the entire Gulf of Mexico. This situation would MASSIVELY increase the Gulf's water temperature; and this would help foster the extremely high dewpoints that concern me so much! Basically, if the Gulf of Mexico's waters become as hot as the Persian Gulf's waters, then this would make these sorts of extreme temperature/dewpoint combinations. Not only would these combinations be extremely favorable for derechos; they would also make for dangerously high heat indices, such as 140 degrees F.!

One hell of a storm. Definitely worse than the IA derecho as this wrecked the shit out of the trees and power lines as well as causing major damage to the buildings. The IA derecho mainly destroyed roofs, trees. Barely any damage to buildings and power lines for the most part
