Tulsa, Oklahoma Derecho Extreme Wind Event - 90 to 100+ MPH Winds and Power Flashes 

Judging from the video, I counted about almost 30, but the only problem I have is I couldn't tell between the lightning or power lines flashes.

It was wild. I'll never forget it

Definitely a storm I won’t forget! Hopefully not a repeat for awhile. Tulsa will be cleaning this one up for a long time.

Omg 😲 oklahoma! That sounds like a tornado 🌪 but straight line winds are scary. Went through my first one last June in Ohio. We had 94 mph winds.. ugh won't forget that

This wasn’t even a derecho. I don’t think officially. I can’t find anywhere from the nws that calls it a derecho. Sometime after this a derecho went through Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. Consistent large swath of 60mph+ wind along all three states. Recorded gusts of 90mph. Nothing can compare to a proper massive derecho.

Sometimes it’s just severe lightning and wind with hardly any real rain besides some heavy downpours in some areas.

Some of that is power flashes I saw so many power flashes that night from my 2nd floor window

That's incorrect. I lived in Orlando for a year. But I have watched a lot of storm / tornado chase videos and its only in tornado video s where I have seen a nearly continuous stream of lightning go on for minutes at a time. @@Kpoole35

I remember that July 2016 event when i was a kid. We lost power for three days but for this recent derecho we didnt lose power at all oddly enough

I recall one that hit in June of 1992. It was in Okmulgee. I am not sure if Tulsa got it too. I just know I turned on the TV and they were discussing it, just before it hit us. On a different topic, regarding your name, is that from the band White Lion, or something else? (If I may ask.)

@@PreciousFifiI do remember back in the early nineties during the summers of 1992-1995 the tulsa area did get hit during the afternoon hours with powerful squall lines, something we dont get as often as compared to to the 80's and 90's, there's been a pattern change in the weather these last few decades I've noticed and, yeah I got the name from the band White Lion, I love the name, BTW I recently saw some slot machine games named White Lion up in Washington state, that surprised me

The 90’s were a rough time for wind and Tulsa. 3 major events from 1992 to 1998!

Yeah the sound of the wind with this one is something I won’t forget.

Same. The Sirens were going and I stepped outside to see if there was a Tornado or something, heard it was just a nasty Derecho. We still hunkered down in the downstairs bathroom and laundry room. Watching the flashes from the laundry room from the kitchen window was insane. I've only been in Oklahoma for a year lol last high winds I dealt with was in Phoenix and some times we got Microbursts

basically this was a 40mile wide f1 tornado to put it in a different perspective

not tropically formed over the Gulf or Atlantic. Hurricanes weaken the further they get over land. For example, I live in Orlando. When Ian struck Ft Myers it was 150 mph winds, but the time it got to Orlando the winds were 60-70 mph at most. I never even lost power but I did see power flashes and heard transformers blow. This storm was either a Derecho, super cell or a microburst. Microbursts come with no warning and are isolated areas, and it seemed like people knew about this ahead of time.

It’s been a crazy active summer for wind events for sure! The one that came thru on Friday morning (not a major event wind wise) had a beautiful shelf but it was just a bit too dark for me to get any good shots. I have a feeling we will get some more wind later in august once we shift back to nw flow again.

I was wondering what the peak radar wind speed was. It weakened just a bit as it came into Tulsa fortunately. Those winds on the west side looked intense on radar!

Exactly! I’ve never experienced a hurricane but it’s on my bucket list. And yeah that’s a fairly expensive part of Tulsa so I assumed a generator as well.

The weather channels said it was. Had a phone warning to take cover 100 mph winds.

45-55 mph winds don’t cause over 200k to lose power.

clearly havent been in a storm that had top winds of 80-100 MPH
