So wonderful to hear Miss Lockhart recount the story of the filming. Back stories are great specially the way this lovely classy lady (in her 80's here) tells them......
Go watch what Billy Mumy had to say about June. He says she was a real rock and roll fan, took him and Angela Cartwright to all the hip LA rock clubs when they were filing the series and later became a big fan of David Bowie. Lassie's mom! Who knew?!?
Much agreed..! Great interview he gave to FoundationINTERVIEWS about all the cast members (see here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qQ3roIzOgbE.html ). Billy (aka Will) also spoke about the infamous Vegetable Rebellion episode (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PPRFXR_oK8s.html ) as did Jonathan Harris (aka Dr. Smith) in his own FoundationINTERVIEWS interview ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OV5d39QYkcs.html ). RIP Dr. Smith..
I had the joy of meeting June and the rest of the surviving cast at the Hollywood Show 50th Lost In Space Reunion in January, 2015. We had preview tickets for the night before (no celebrities were scheduled). Lo and behold there was June and her granddaughter setting up her table for the next morning. Got to spend about a half hour chatting with her. She was such a delight to talk to...so many wonderful stories and a genuine interest our life stories, too!
I'm 54 (watched Lost in Space in re-runs in the mid 1970s) and I'm crying with laughter at this. All the interviews I've seen suggest that the show was a complete blast to make for almost everyone involved (Guy Williams sadly excluded). Lost in Space made me want to make science fiction with my dad's Super8 camera. As a grown-up I got sucked into community theater and found a home in one that did lots of science fiction and horror parodies, and it was just everything I'd hoped for when I was a kid. Thank you, Mrs Maureen Robinson.
She was my scifi female crush in the early 70's ... suceeded by Barbara Bain as Space 1999's Dr Russell who was then succeeded by Gates McFadden as ST:TNG's Dr Beverly Crusher! Such wonderful strong women characters in a time when very few existed. Though Maureen was the BEST space mum ever!
Followed her from Lassie too.............BTW THOMAS EDISON introduced her parents in NYC THEATRE venue and got married because of him .....................classy lady!
I love this lady-pure class--wonder why she hasn't written her autobiography--she knew everybody--come to think of it, that's why she's classy--doesn't do any tell alls.
Her comments and Billy Mumy’s comments about Irwin Allen explain why the show devolved and ended after the 3rd season. He just coasted on the past. No plans for the future. Billy Mumy’s reunion episode would have been a hit. But Allen wouldn’t allow it. Never turn down someone putting money in your pocket.
The Star Wars Holiday Special was bad, but I don't think anything could beat Lost In Space The Great Vegitable Rebillion Still your comment is hilarious. 😆😆😆😆
@@KaptainCanuck Yeah well, lets just say that's an episode of our dear Doctor that could use some remastering But the storyline was still better, kind of an Ed Wood movie with Terence Stamp as the screen writer. Dinosaurs from the past are one thing, story wise that is, but talking vegetables??????
Amazing lady with a great and long career. Her dad, Gene Lockhart was a character actor contracted to I think MGM or one of those studios. She was acting as a young child. But I must admit the Veggie Rebellion should go down in TV history as one of the worse episodes in TV history....ever. No wonder they couldn't keep a straight face and stop laughing. At least they were paid for this during their chastisement/suspension of Irwin Allen for laughing during the filming and upsetting Mr. Allen. Funny. Poor Jonathan had to keep a straight face being filmed as a stalk of celery. lol Fun to watch it now knowing the back stories of that episode.
Wow, I was almost ready to defend Sid and Marty Kroft, but now I'd say you're right. Also, the idea of anybody saying "this is serious" in that episode is hysterical.
That's the first time I've ever heard that particular explanation as to why L.I.S. was cancelled. All the other sources have said it was due to budget cuts .. Apparently the network had been slashing show budgets of late, and for that last upcoming season the cut they wanted to make was so substantial that Irwin told them there was no way they could shoot episodes within the proposed budgeted amount (and he was not about to sink money of his own into them). So, he just told the network "forget it" and that he would not produce another season of the show.
Billy Mumy ("Will Robinson"), in another interview, says he believes that June and Guy being written out of the next two episodes as punishment was just a "rumor", but I'd say now it's established fact. Wow -- how petty of Irwin.
Wow, Irwin Allen was an even bigger jerk than I realized. He blows of the chief executive of his network, and doesn't provide him with the requested episode outlines (which he probably hadn't written), and gets the series canceled. Then six months later, all of his series are canceled and he's kicked off the lot. It makes you wonder how he managed to be successful in the first place?
Did Genn Lockhart also star in Ironside I have a thought there an episode? I also think I remember her in Doctor Kildare I think I was told this but I remember her in Lost In Space and was she in Buck Rogers the TV shows?
Here's a boxed version ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1jQ7Gkdke3I.html (best could find for free..) of the Vegetable Rebellion episode. Yes so bad it's good ;-D! PS - June is a treasure & as Lampshade51 she has great taste in rock music (not mentioned by him she was also friends with the Allman Brothers, a band I've seen live a number of times).
Irwin Allen was a horses's ass. He produced terrible TV shows saved only, maybe, by stalwart veteran character actors who wasted their fine talent on them. Shame on you Mr. Allen.
She and Guy Williams were NOT having an affair! Shame on you for trying to slander their characters. June is still alive. She could sue you for libel, smart aleck!
I HATED that episode!! They should have used the script as toilet paper instead of putting on TV! I'm glad June & company have acsense of humor about it. But I feltnit really degraded the show AND THE NOBLE CAST -- June and Guy Williams!!
