Great video! Sounds like Warlord left such a high bar that nothing much else is working for you haha. Makes sense though. It’s just that good.

I enjoyed Malice and the subsequent 2 books like I enjoy watching the good Indiana Jones films (1 & 3). It’s good fun (For me it was really quick to read) and I found it just a good story. I wouldn’t say it is groundbreaking or subtle/nuanced but I found it a good, fun fantasy adventure. I’ve bought the Warlord Chronicles, so I’m looking forward to reading them after I’ve read Jade Legacy. Another good review/video.

Enjoying the channel. Don’t know how the warlord chronicles aren’t more well known. I didn’t know that Derfel was an actual character from King Arthur stories. Wonder if you’ve read any Pat Conroy. A bit of a one trick pony, but if you’re interested in a story about a messed up guy from SouthCarolina dealing with messed up family issues… he’s your guy.

Was surprised to find Children of Gods and Fighting Men at Half Price. Will read at some point as am curious as I know next to nothing about Irish mythology it seems to draw from and will likely butcher all the Gaelic names.
@laurablakeauthor
@laurablakeauthor 2 месяца назад
It pulls a bit from it but I'd say its less mythology and more historical.

*cringes in reading Dark Age next* Ruh oh... 😬 I enjoyed Iron Gold for the most part, but I had some significant issues with the ending--mostly inconsistencies with characters... So this doesn't bode well lol. But at least I have a heads up! I also was sooo curious to see how Malice worked for you, because it's such a book tube darling, but I DNF'd the series during Valor--its now a really good measure of how someone's tastes compare to mine. I need to go back and watch the discussion! I'm glad overall your month was positive, though! And always a fun way to start a book club, with spicy opinions ;)

Hi Laura a bit of a mixed month for you in June then. Glad you enjoyed The Warlord Chronicles, it makes me want to re-read it sometime as it has been a quite a while since I first read it (I think it might be over 25 years since I read it) I'm interested to see that you had a similar opinion to Dark Age as Tori over at Toritalks. I have recently finished the first trilogy and was considering starting Iron Gold in July, but if the new books are not so good I might not bother now. I don't want to taint the original trilogy. I had a really good reading month in June and managed to get through quite a few books. I read 2 Judge Dredd comic books - The Complete Case Files 37 & 38 I also read 6 books: Kamusari Tales Told At Night - Shion Miura Last Summer Boys - Bill Rivers Memory And Dream - Charles De Lint The Shepherd’s Crown - Terry Pratchett Bridge To Terabithia - Katherine Paterson Flowers For Algernon - Daniel Keyes Book of the month for me was Memory And Dream (although it was a re-read) closely followed by Flowers For Algernon.

As someone whose always thought the Red Rising series was shock value over substance, I feel vindicated hahaha I haven't read Children of Gods & Fighting Men yet, but I'm trying to make more of an effort to read more Irish authors... Irish authors don't tend to write SFF hahaha In June I read: *Historical-Fantasy* Children of Earth & Sky / Guy Gavriel Kay - Carried over from May. Loved it. A Brightness Long Ago / Guy Gavriel Kay - My new favourite Kay I've read so far, and a new favourite book of all-time! Book of the Month!!! All the Seas of the World / Guy Gavriel Kay - Pretty good. Glad I read this loose trilogy in publication order. I understand the lukewarm reviews and I seem to have liked it more than most, though my favourite parts were the tie-ins to ABLA, CoE&S and Lions of Al-Rassan. *Sci-Fi* Vorkosigan Saga 1: Shards of Honor - Definitely be continuing this series. *Southern Gothic* Child of God / Cormac McCarthy - It was fine, but really creepy at times. For now I NFNed Jonathan Maberry's Patient Zero and Christopher Ruocchio's Howling Dark. They're good, just not what I'm looking for right now. As for what I'm currently reading: *Historical-Fantasy* The Last Light of the Sun / Guy Gavriel Kay - Kay's re-imagining of the Viking invasions of King Alfred's England, its really good so far. *Sci-Fi* Cloud Atlas / David Mitchell - Still early days yet but I haven't a clue wtf is going on. *Thriller* Winter of Frankie Machine / Don Winslow - Really good so far.
