There's a running joke in the fandom that suga is secretly fluent, how extensive his knowledge we don't know but he understands really well I think he just struggles with pronunciation so tends to be a bit shy and speaks Korean instead

Yoongi's english - he seems to be one of the better members at understanding english but chooses not to speak it sometimes. You'll see in this video and at other times like the AMAs speech he just chooses to speak korean while the rest speak english. But you can see in interviews he understands questions before RM translates and one time he trolled RM in an interview (who was talking about how the guys can't speak english) by immediately speaking english to the interviewer 😂. JK (and Hobi's) accents have gotten really good lately! One thing - I don't know if it's just me but I can't hear your comments over the video, so it would be great if you could adjust the sound.

I suspect that Yoongi often chooses to speak in Korean because he likes being an ambassador for his language and culture. He's conversant in several other languages.

J-Hope and Jungkook I swear spent their quarantine studying and perfecting their English because when all this press started coming out after Butter dropped last spring it was 🤯 And as for Yoongi, I agree with a lot of the other comments. From all that I've seen, he understands just about as quickly as Namjoon - sometimes he doesn't even need to wait for a translation. I think it's just a matter of preference. He could speak English… but he prefers to speak Korean, it's his native tongue. And when they were at the AMAs and everyone gave their speeches in English but then he stepped up to the mic and gave his in Korean…what a boss! There's also that iconic v-live of his from a few years ago when he explain how he understands the majority of what people are saying, but he will most definitely recognize any swears and know if you're talking shit about them. 😂

Jungkook and that precious bunny smile.. how can someone that cute be such a powerful performer with so much fire on stage 😂 the whole group has such crazy duality but jk being the baby but growing into this precious but mature man who is such a wonderful person is so wholesome and heartwarming. Jungkook has actually had the best pronunciation outside of Rm for quite sometimes… he just used to be less confident in it bc he’s a perfectionist lol like a lot of them speak English with a heavy accent still but jk doesn’t seem to speak it unless he knows how to say things.’he was learning like 10 English words a day and practicing to get the pronunciation for a long time. Even old videos of them speaking English it’s hard to even hear an accent in most of what he says… like a famous clip of him on good morning America saying his lines that he prepared for the show and he was trending number one right after it and was confused and rm said “jungkooks English is so cute wahhhhhhh, in a high pitched cute little yell and it’s iconic …. And extremely true lol if you haven’t watched the bts speaking English videos you should… it’s way too cute lol I love them

Yeah Yoongi’s English is honestly really good but he’s just shy and is def more comfortable speaking Korean no matter the situation. Yoongi is one of the members who I would consider on the higher end of fluency as far as understanding the language. Back a few years ago he may have been right behind Joon and there were videos going around saying that he was secretly fluent. He’s even been known to sometimes correct their translator~ It’s just that he doesn’t talk as much that people tend to undermine this fact, but I’m sure as you watch more of their interviews and content from when they’re in America you’ll notice! All of the members are getting really good these days though! They’re taking lessons and studying when they can (in ITS s2 you can even see a clip of Hobi working through his studies while they were on vacation). Especially comparing clips from say 2017-18 to now you can notice the huge difference in all of them!

Suga suffers from social anxiety and is an introvert. It’s obvious that he really understands English well. I think he’s self-conscious about speaking it.

It’s interesting to see how well they have come on with their English. Jungkook and Hobi speak it fairly well. Vis improving and Jin always does his best but struggles with the pronunciation. Jimin isn’t learning English according to RM but he attempts a bit. SUGA understands pretty well and can speak it when he wants to but he generally chooses not to. I’m surprised that Jin finds speaking English such a struggle as I think he lived in New Zealand for a while.

Yoongi just isn’t confident in his English when it comes to speaking… I don’t think any of them can’t understand the gist of English at this point…. Speaking is definitely another story… some care more about it so they work harder on it and you can tell which ones they are. They def all understand English but I think fans don’t understand that being able to pick things up audibly and converse in another language are very different things lol I think his English sounds pretty good for the things that he says… like if he knows for sure then he will speak it… but I don’t think they want to alienate their Korean fans by only speaking English. Just like they will speak English at Asian award shows sometimes… they’re huge on inclusivity…. And I think yoongi is probably the one who thinks the most about not leaving any type of person out… he’s always very careful with his words whatever language he is speaking…. But I think it’s for army in a way .
