I went with my parents to Ecuador back in the 80s on a missions trip. While there, MAF had to airlift me out of the jungle when I suffered a compound fracture to my arm. If it had not been for them, I definitely would have lost my arm and possibly my life due to a serious infection. Since then, I've become a pilot and hope to one day fly for MAF. PS - we also got to fly over the same territory that Nate Saint served in. The books about him and his son are fantastic.

My mother's life was actually saved by the MAF, when she was about to be born in the jungle in Papua. My grandma suddenly started bleeding heavily and my grandfather tried to reach out for help with a radio. A MAF pilot was flying nearby and landed on the river. He brought my grandmother and mother to the nearest hospital. My mother was healthy when born and my grandparents gave her the initials M.A.F.

I don''t understand RU-vid. I know this doesn't matter at all, but how could someone watch such a well executed video like this, with an amazing message, profiling an incredible occupation that is responsible for keeping thousands of people alive...and "Dislike" the video? This man seems like such a genuinely good person and exceptional father. I'm genuinely curious- if you are someone who gave this video a thumbs down, what is/was your reasoning behind it?

It is a constant of youtube, if there's 0 dislikes then someone must be the first so they can be special. If there's minimal dislikes the pull isnt as strong but it's still a small special club. And then there's peeps who dislike every video they watch. As long as the dislikes are less than 1% (like they are here), or really under 5%, it's not worth taking note of

Nate Saint's invention with the bucket and the rope that he would lower from a moving plane by making tighter and tighter circles so that on the ground the bucket was basically stationary completely blew my mind as a kid. I would love to see a video that demonstrates this and explains the physics. He was a hero of mine when I was a kid too, and although my worldview has changed dramatically since then, especially as it pertains to proselytizing, I still think those jungle pilots were total badasses.

Aleix París I suppose different parts of the world have different cultures. My aunt always referred to her dad as father, a name I don't think I ever used when talking to my dad. It didn't mean she loved him any less, that was just the way they were. I'm guessing Destin's upbringing or the culture he lives in, means this is normal. Either way I don't see it as cold, especially when you see his kid's body language.

This! This is what I want to do! I got my A&P and started my pilot's license a few years back after my best friend decided to become a pastor. We desperately wanted to do bush pilot ministry. He was ordained last year, and I still am no closer than my solo flight of 2010, to obtaining my pilot's license. I still love everything aviation, but funding a pilot's license just isn't in the cards anymore. Just, don't let life get ahead of your dreams if it means helping others.

My father and I had several opportunities to speak to Steve Saint, Nate's Saint's son. He and my dad both own RV-10 aircraft and like to chat about them. We were able to hear his side of the story about his father in the jungles. Really nice guy. Another great video Destin.

+Thierry Marcotte-Naud Probably a terrible idea. Although I have heard of a military pilot who took off and realized that his controls had been crossed by the mechanics. He had to spend about 30 minutes figuring out how to fly it before he could land again.

+Benjamin Brooks Sounds like poor pre-flight check. Most military guys have pre-flight routines drilled into them and rarely miss crossed controls, as it is one of the most basic checks.

+Vespa military also provides emergency medical services to large areas, and let's not forget that ISIS would be doing a far better job of bombing civilians if the military wasn't actively engaging them. I'm sure getting rid of the military could only be a good thing though. I mean, I'd certainly say that a few thousand total civilian deaths is totally unjustified and that every military should just disband and allow dictators and terrorists to kill millions instead. Great idea. You're probably doing a bunch of stuff to help too, like going to protests and generally just making people angry and polarizing issues. I'm sure you've got this perfect roadplan to fix an incredibly complex issue wherein you generalize and make everything black and white. Of course, the world we live in is an ideal one so you're totally right with all of your fallacies.
@luisbaltazar1
@luisbaltazar1 8 лет назад
KingHalbatorix collateral damage is a very convenient term for whoever because reasons don't wanna deploy ground troops. stability in the middle east is too important to just stand and ignore ISIS but not important enough to risk actual soldiers, right? Saudi Arabia's ruler knows how much the US care about democracy and human rights abroad.

Destin, I know this video is old, so this comment may not reach you, but I've got news for you... You already have a super power, my friend. Being able to spread knowledge and positive messages in the entertaining and educational way that you do is rare, and very impressive. Every time I watch one of your videos, I am inspired to do better, do more, and do it for other people. I just had my first child, and my true hope is that more people like you are around for him to admire and learn from. Thank you for all that you do.
