People ask, "why this works are so awesome? Are you really junior?". I think, you are junior as long as you are calling yourself junior. Your skills are very good. You can call yourself a strong middle and it is true. But if you say you are junior, every employer will pay you like a junior but all tasks will be like for seniors, because you have really good skills. So just don't be shy to ask for more.
Difference between junior and senior roles are clear. It's about years of industry experience, once you work professionally for more than three years, you can be promoted to a senior role, then later on, be a lead/ or principal..etc. It is also possible for a junior candidates to have outstanding skills compared to a veteran professional. It is all corporate titles in the entertainment industry, and their actual difference is often in the pay gap.
This is great. Please remember to keep your portfolio live. VFX is an uncertain world . Adding contact details and artstation links to the youtube about section helps employers keep track of potential freelancers.
For everyone getting overwhelmed by the fact that Jake calls himself Junior even though he has such an awesome reel, be mindful that there are post and animation studios that are constantly getting commercial work with weaker reels. It really is much about how good you are at presenting yourself and yes, contacts, unfortunately.
Take "Junior" out of the title. Don't sell yourself short. Your animation skills are pretty good, definitely senior level. If you lack the soft skills that people often associate with "Senior" titles, go get any project management certificate (like from CompTIA+) to cover that. It will only take you like 3-5 weeks to complete. You can contribute to great things with the talents you showed off here.
You are a very talented junior artist. People like you make things so difficult for beginners because you lift the bar so high most of us just say fuck it why bother....
Hi there! I personally didnt do the games art course but did do the MArt (when they were offering it) in The Art of Visual effects. I highly recommend Escape Studios to anyone as a whole, its a fantastic place to learn and full of loads of students all with similar interests. Id suggest messaging current MA students on LinkedIn to get more of an in-depth answer from them as I wouldn't want to give any false information, however I can say that the uni its self is fantastic!
Learning up new things in 3d will feel slow. That's just the nature of learning. Don't worry if you're slow doing things for the first time. You get way faster after major learning stages. Forcing yourself to stick to it is easier if you a feel compulsion to do well/deal with bad outcomes. Learn up marvelous designer if you're making clothes. It's not a big program, but getting tutorials like the CG Elves library is great to learn up. Using ZModeler and doing some poly modeling in zbrush is awkward at the start, but it gets easy if you know how to remesh and group loop the borders. It's quite good actually. It'll be easier when you don't want to keep switching to Maya for props and armour. Maya is great either way, but learn to model block outs in zbrush. Learn up how to cut up a mesh into required poly groups using slice curve and other tools. Polygroup it is great to learn too. Sometimes you keep getting bad remeshes because no groups/only a few groups are helping zbrush process. Use the hotbox and marking menus in Maya. No one who gets good keeps selecting from the shelf or above for routine operations.
Thank you so much! Fully agree with everything pronoydutta614 has said, it may seem like a huge void of information at the start but keep pushing forward, try as much as you can and be prepared for things not to work out how you want. This is very important as it teaches you problem solving as a sole artist but also in groups. You got this!
3d game dev is good and beginner friendly , but when u complete ur degree, even Kids can create pro 3d games WITH THE HELP OF AI, And game dev will also be very common.... Im just telling truth not disappointing ..... i started dev at the age of 10 and making modes on consoles like 3ds, but now im more close with AI , i made so much programs, and i'm using it every day.....I would like to train AI FOR THE NEXT 4 YRS..
@@Simonriely004 thanks for the comment! Ai currently it no where near the point of overtaking the industry as a whole. Currently the best way to adapt is to use it as a tool rather than a replacement. This is the best way to make it a hybrid rather than replacement. It certainly will only improve as time goes on and one day will be able to do a lot of tasks that humans currently are required to do. Ai in VFX is helpful for rotoscoping and DMP image extensions. It is not great for full moving images. It also doesn’t create anything ‘new’ as it’s been taught of things humans have given or created for it to learn off. It’s super cool tech and my advice for it would be to adapt rather than let it change potential career choices
@@Zunaw Sorry I explained that badly! I finished uni in 2021, this work is from uni projects and personal projects, I started working in vfx a week after I graduated :)
Hi! Blender is a great place to start as its free. Its not widely adopted as the go to for most studio pipelines however that's not to say its not used. learning Maya and Houdini will be super beneficial to get a job. If you know how to use Blender and the fundamentals to 3D and how it works the transition to Maya shouldn't be too difficult. Houdini is quite different to other 3D packages but I highly recommend to learn part of it that are tailored to the role you want :) Hope that helps!
