Can you share tips for using volumetric(fog) for compositing ???? Thanks alot
@lukasbieri
@lukasbieri 6 месяцев назад
I usually either render it together with the rest, that of course locks it in. Or if I want to be flexible in comp, I either render it separately with the same light sources and holdout geometry, or with black shaded geometry. Both allows me then to either merge it with the main render or to use it as a mask to drive a grade node. A combination of lift and slightly reducing the gain usually gives realistic results

Thanks! It‘s a combination of multiple applications. Mainly Blender for 3D work, Substance Painter for texturing and Nuke for Compositing. You can find good tutorials on RU-vid, if you want to learn how to do this. It is now easier than ever :)

great work.. If one is a complete newbie and want to learn everything you just demonstrated what is the recommended learning path in terms of softwares?
@lukasbieri
@lukasbieri 6 месяцев назад
Thank you! For me, compositing is probably the most important basic skill. It kind of acts like glue, it connects everything and sometimes smoothes over some rough edges. And it is a very powerful skill even by itself. If you want to become a VFX artist, learning Compositing to a certain degree will be an important base for the whole process. It will train your eye, give you an understanding for the whole pipeline and allow you to create a lot of cool stuff pretty early on. So I recommend to learn AfterEffects and maybe dabble in some basic Blender tutorials on the side. After a while, you can make the switch from AfterEffects to Nuke (different way of comping, but the skills translate pretty well). Blender is a tool that will give you an understanding of generalist 3D skills. It will either become your main 3D software, a part of your workflow or give you an introduction to a single, more specific 3D skill that usually requires you to learn a more specialized software down the line. I hope that helps, all the best on your journey!

Beautiful work! I'm trying to learn how to do projection mapping. I'm most comfortable in Blender but it doesn't seem like the go-to tool for that (I could be wrong). Is there any other free software you can recommend for this or is Nuke the best option?
@lukasbieri
@lukasbieri 7 месяцев назад
Thanks! I usually use Nuke for projection mapping, as we already have the licenses necessary. But I did it in Blender a few times, it is a little bit more work to set up, but works pretty well in my opinion. Especially if you want to project onto multiple objects from one camera source, it is pretty nice to be able to adjust the geometry on the fly. If you haven‘t already, I recommend to look into the UV Project Modifier. Hope that helps!
@mastermcginnis
@mastermcginnis 7 месяцев назад
@@lukasbieri That absolutely helps. Thank you so much! I've never heard of that modifier until not but it looks like just the thing I need so I'll definitely be trying it out. I've subscribed to you channel and look forward to more awesome FX work. Best of luck!
