Hello all! I was wondering folks... Do you make things like journal cards) to have a stockpile to pick from at the ready or do you make as you go for a specific journal?
I do it both ways, depending on the journal. If I am making for a specific person, I make most things up as I go along. But, if I am putting together a general, junk journal, I just make up a bunch of stuff and then use those.
Hi there, Good Morning! I had an idea about how to tear the excess napkin from the side of the 💙... you could try using a damp bup wipe ( baby wipe, my son called them Bup Wipes) to run lightly around the area you want to tear. It should tear right along the wet area. Also works well when you need to tear a particular shape from your napkin, but use a tiny paintbrush. Thanks for your fabulous tutorials! I'm having so much fun! Have a beautiful day!🌸🌼🌺
Love the napkin effect!! I haven't tried just using a glue stick though, this could really open up things for me!! Thanks so much for the inspiration!!!
They're beautiful! After seeing so many books with only black and white images at thrift stores and wondering what I could do with them, now I know! Thanks for the inspiration!
Hello dear☺️ I so enjoy watching you. May I ask, the book pages of both the birds and branches, flowers🤔 what book/books are they from? And yes I’m learning more on using napkins from watching you. Thank you for the videos ❤️
I just discovered you channel today and I am OVER THE MOON!! I love so many things about your channel. You are a born teacher. You explain what you are doing so well and make the procedure so clear. Your sense of humor (which is something I refuse to live without) is fantastic. You take the time to LIST THE PRODUCTS YOU ARE USING as well as the link to purchase it! That is a HUGE plus for me. You do all of this with a pleasant voice (so important a trait for a RU-vidr) and to top it all off, the projects you choose to do are so interesting. I have only seen 5 of your videos, but I plan on BINGE WATCHING your channel on Christmas Day. As a gift to ME! Thanks so much for this video and for all your videos that will be in my future. I have already learned so many tips from you in just 5 videos. So much fun!! God Bless and Merry Christmas. Lots ofLove from Texas!❤️
Wow! I am totally floored Debbie! Thanks for your very kind words and for taking the time to let me know this in your busy day! You completely made my day!! God bless and Merry Christmas to you and yours!!! :)
Pam I have to tell you that I really enjoy your videos and you have helped me to start my day on a happy note. My husband and I live with my 93 yr old father in law to help him out, well this past month he has drastically declined and finally is at peace this past Monday. I was watching your video and it really kept my spirits up and today is the first day I had time to sit and have my coffee and to watch you! Thank you for being there and keeping my spirits up! I will still continue my ritual, but at least I know I won’t be heading into a long day. ❤️
Donna, I had no idea! I am very sorry for your loss. He was lucky to have you as family for sure. I wish you much relaxation and rejuvenation when possible. Many blessings to you and your husband.
I watched your video on making a junk journal because I was thinking...why would anyone want a journal made with junk....Good Lord help me I am afraid I found my addiction. I still can't say that I would ever write in one of these beautiful pieces of junk art but they have captured my very crafty soul. Love your art and easy going ways, thank you....off to goodwill for some junk nature books that i won't mind cutting up.
Hi Meg! Welcome to the family! Boy can I relate! Everything will soon look like fair fodder for a journal! Come down the rabbit hole with the rest of us! Its fun to make journals of all kinds! And always remember! Its only paper :)
Hello my name is Karen Muskatell.I enjoy watching the videos of paper art very much.Where can I send a picture of the journarl card I made to share with you?
Hi Karen, you can join The Paper Outpost FB group and post lots of pics in there or you can simply DM me on Facebook or email me directly at pamela@thepaperoutpost.com I would love to see what you made! :)
Don't rub, daub, as you rub...every time. LOL Very pretty do dads too. I make them ahead and also if I want a specific one to match a page, I make a custom order one. Haha
So I have heard you say many times dab don’t rub on the ink pad but have never heard you say why one is better over the other. Inquiring minds want to know lol.
Ah, great question! I few card making folks explained to me I was using my ink pad wrong. They said it would cause the ink pad to fray faster by rubbing. While I do see the logic in that I think I will always be a rubber at heart :0) I can't stop myself :) I naturally rub :) I say, its your ink pad, do what you want with it :)
OMGosh . . . just discovered your 'tape trick' for separating the layers of napkins. It is genius! I'm not new to crafting (even owned my own craft/rubber stamp store), but have NEVER made any junk journals. I have learned sooooo much watching you videos. Thank YOU
I don't know where you come up with all of these fantastic ideas, but I just LOVE this one! I have so many napkins that I use in decorating the junk mail envelopes and would love to use them somehow in my journals. I used to try to make/find supplies as I went along but, thanks to you, I now have a great time making and stockpiling ephemera. I'm a Stickles addict now, too, LOL. Like you, I have to consciously move my work to a drying area or I'm constantly smearing Stickle art. You've given so many of us the inspiration and simple ways to become crafters. Not sure I can express just how thankful I am for all you do. Thank you and God Bless!
I love all your journal cards, such beautiful imagery and those blings are adorable. Journal cards are great no matter what size. This has inspired me to try some. You make them like I do, always gluing the ends to make them just right. That tape trick is great too! Love that sanding block, I have one & now I'll use it. Thanks for tips/tricks. Great video.
Fyi: I find it so easy for me to use a straight pin/ needle to lift a corner of a sticker to get start pulling off the backing. Much easier for me since I have short nails.
Loved the video! Thank you for the tip to ' knock back the shine' by using clear gesso!! Never seen that before!! Your awesome as usual!! Thank you for sharing your creative talents!!
I have many flower and butterfly pages torn from an old set of encyclopedias that were kindly gifted to me! Thanks for the notecard ideas! They turned out just as nice as yours!
If you have a tag back that is too 'wordy' you could use a light layer of white gesso to make it useful for Journaling. Does anyone really journal on these? Asking for a friend...
Thank you for sharing your beautiful paper art. I have a question, almost everyone uses brown Distress ink for a vintage look. But why (almost) never beautiful bright colors? With butterflies or something, I would also like to see some example videos of this ☺️😊✂️✏️🖌️Liefs from the Netherlands.
That napkin/tape trick! 🤯 And the gesso trick to calm down the shine from stickers. Wow! This is the first video I have watched of yours, but already a fan!
Another awesome video. I am brand new to all of this. I just finished the "bookmark" video, and I wondered if you think napkins would work for decorating the bookmark cards, or would that be too much wear and tear on the napkin? I am digg'n your style. Thank you.
Hi!! Where do i get your links please? I just see comments.... I m french soo maybe i dont look at the right place?!?!! I loveeeeee your post! You make my days happy and like the little girl i was! Thnaks
I thought I want to laugh at least three times a day...not like ha! Be hahahahaa! I learn so much bit I laugh quite a bit at the same time. Thank you...I can at least meet my quota and ceeat some wonderful things...liberating.💫💞⚘ p.s. I have been making as I go...but I like the idea of sessions like your videos.
Hey Pam, when you say packaging is it as obvious as a cookie, cracker, cereal box/package? And a million other types of packaging? Awesome video, thanks!
I've been doing a little of both. The first tech that I made were supposed to be to hold my altered dominos and I did mass production. Then I got a little to fancy and they overwhelmed the dominos. So I have a bunch of them. Then my things were packed and I was watching utube and saw junk journals and fell in love with these and I made the epherma as I went. I did do some mass making of paper clusters when I had no cord to sew signatures into 9 to12 journals. Now I've moved again and my craft materials are again all packed and not crafting was driving me crazy so I had found some of my fabric scraps and lace drawers so I mass made fabric clusters. NIW I'm playing with envelops. I bought a little book to cut up and have made a couple of multiple pocket cards. I made 2 purple card sized that I was going to make into flips, but they would look lovely on journal fronts so I want to mass make more similar to those. I love these little ones. Espically the way you made the heart
Hi Pam, I've watched many of your tutorials but not commented thus far....a little remiss of me! I'll stand myself in the corner for a bit...but what I wanted to say is that I love you come what may attitude, the way that you demonstrate, explain, talk yourself through your tutes. You are so endearing. I also love that your worktop is not pristine, but shows the wear and tear of crafting. Thank you for your tutes and the manner in which you share your love for crafting. oh btw, I love how you used the sanding block to remove the tissue from around the journalling card, but though it was too cumbersome to use on the heart. You could use an emery board on smaller, more intricate objects like the heart. That's what I thought you were going to do. Regardless, thanks for the lessons and the laughs. Jude in the land of Oz!
Pam - do you think the tape “trick” you used to remove the extra layers on the napkin work to take the back of the sticker off?!?!? Just wondering… thanks!
Hi. You mentioned using a line stamp. I have been searching everywhere for one. Do you remember where you got yours? Oh, and by the way, I made some of the tiny book charms like yours. So fun and cute. Thank you for sharing your ideas.
Love them! All this time, I’ve been using ModPodge to glue down napkins and there were times I didn’t want the mess...so glue stick is a good option! These are fun!
Just happened across your channel and love it! I have ADD and I love that you are quick with not a lot of extra talking about unrelevant stuff as others do. I lose interest very quick usually but this vid is perfect. Thank you 😊
I go through old cards & cut out words, and some magazines too. Also I cut out large numbers and large letters which look good to have just one of them on a page or card. Also the large fancy script capital letters look good, such as an E or W.
LOVE WHAT YOU'VE DONE PAM LITTLE BIRD AND FLOWERS IS MINE. 😊 YOU'LL BE OK WORKING AROUND HORSES, YOU MEASURE THEM BY HANDS. THIS VIDEO IN AT 1ÀM, IM TRYING TO SETTLE, CANT FOR THE LAUGHING. 💜†CAMILLE OZ
Hello my Aussie friend! Hope the heat has backed off :) It was 80 degrees here today...suddenly I am missing fall again ;) Go figure! ...lol thank goodness no measuring tape required on those horses! lol..you had me in stitches!
Thanks, Pam for a great idea! I spent my day in quarantine doing a variety of book page tags with the napkins. I love them! I appreciate the tutorial of pulling both plys from the napkin. I had previously ended up with "puffy" napkin projects and now I know it's because I didn't get rid of both plys.
More great offerings from the Outpost! So glad to know about the clear matte gesso. I enjoy mass making. When I deconstruct a book I separate the pages into piles: envelopes, fussy cuts, pockets, etc. Then I do the basics, faux stitching, inking, background stenciling...it’s nice to just open a box or two, pull a few things out and then go to town customizing!
Wow your channel was recommended today, I’m addicted to your videos. I love how you think out loud. Truly enjoy watching you and your creative process. Thanks for the great tutorials.
Julia sent me over because she found your button dangles and loved them! She showed us how and used them on her jourles and books, her quilting, etc! Now I am exploring your channel. She said you are great !
Love your creations - they are so pretty & love the way you talk to your art (you’re not alone lol). Those cardboard emery boards (nail files) work well on sanding the napkin off thinner items
Hello , I just subscribed to your channel. I love 💗 your tags . Very pretty . I like the Nuevo drops . I don’t think I’ve seen anyone use them . I’m new at junk journaling. I made a December daily . I’m very happy with it . I enjoyed your video . Thank you for sharing. ♥️ 🌺 ♥️
Hi Fern Anton! Welcome to the family! I am very excited for you on your new hobby! You will find many friends here :) Thanks for watching! :) Pam :) !!
Just discovered your channel, and I just love your videos, not only the way you make them, but the way you speak, your tone, It just give me the energy to go for it ! Voice and tone are very important to me and I'll follow you for sure. If you allow me to give you one of my tip for the tricky edges to scratch, (like the 'v' of the heart to rub the napkin off at about 26'), you might be happy to use a nail emery board. Hope you'll enjoy my tip ! Thank you for your videos, I'm on my way to watch them all .. ;) (and sorry for my English mistakes, not my mother tongue ..) .. Time for the end of the video .. :)
Isnt it funny how one person loves one thing and another hates it? Well I tried that glue stick by Scotch brand and I have to say I have never used a crappier glue stick. I couldnt get it to do what I needed. It was gloppy and so gooey. I went to DT and found a brand I had seen in my research on them. AVERY brand it's awesome. For me. But you seem to get that glue stick going. I couldnt. Maybe it was faulty. But I'm happy you can use it. And they are expensive. So I'm stickin with the dollah tree Dahling
Glues are one of those things you have to find out what works best for you! I have tried many glues and finally settled on my favorites :) Most journal makers go through a similar process and settle on their favorites too :) Its almost like a rite of passage :)
Loving your videos. Iv been so inspired and cant wait to get my new supplies to help me start this new craft idea journey. I think these are all wonderful gift ideas, your also very entertaining and that helps when watching long videos. I usually get bored quick ( is why I go threw many crafts. ) But when I sat and watched a 3 part the other day I knew we had something special. :) Thank you again for your craftiness. And look forward to many days watching and being inspired.
Hello! Watching you has made me start my first junk journal! I have gotten my first signature attatched to the spine! But i coffeed every page. They are very bulky! Is there any method to thin the whole signature packet. I love the wrinkle, and sound, but it really does bulk out! But boy is this fun!
Tip: When you are done coffee dyeing your pages and they are dry, then place them under something heavy to flatten them out. I use 2 cases of bottled water. It takes about 2 hours to flatten them but it really helps reduce the bulk :)
