I went to my silver dealer and purchased all of his available Junk Silver. Three bags of silver full of Barber Half Dollars, Barber Quarters, and Barber Dimes! Knowing that he rarely picks through them, I decided to buy them all in hopes of maybe adding a few upgrades to my album, or possibly scoring a better date or two. I did not expect to find so many rare coins (including old Silver Half Dollar Commemoratives, some better dates and even a few RARE Barber Liberty Half Dollar that I could add to my coin collection and coin albums in this purchase... In this video, I will search through all the old Silver coins from the bags. I will be looking for key dates, semi key dates, upgrades, and of course and varieties within the years I hunt. Also, he gave me a bag of old copper coins at Face Value which yielded a few good finds as well! Hopefully you all enjoy this video! It still amazes me that there's still this much old silver floating around, especially after the Hunt brothers ran the price of silver up to $50 back in 1980 and people were melting everything
They say in the book "The Big Silver Melt" that they estimate 10% of the junk silver did survive. When I buy silver, I focus on Franklins and 1964 JFK's.
@@staleydu1Interesting that more than 10% survived. I know that the US government got about 30% of 90% silver in the melt lasting from June of 1968 to October of 1969. Even after the 1968-1969 melt, 90% silver was still extremely common to find in almost every roll of dimes, quarters, and halves until the fall of 1979 when the Hunt Brothers started to manipulate the silver price heavily.
It just makes me crazy to see this much silver. I could roll around in it squealing like a baby! Congrats on your coin dealer letting you have a first crack at buying this much!
You did good on this hunt rob!!!! Keep it coming and I look forward to seeing more videos in the future. Absolutely love your channel and it's the first one I always look for when I do my coins
My set looks perfect. But I purposely bought only one set. Even though I bought two of the proof sets. I'm going to buy a PF-70 set. They have PF-70 Morgan and Peace dollars for $100 bucks each. They were $150 at first. The reverse proof sets are around $330. I'll wait till they come down to $300 or less, then I'll buy them. The MS-70's and PF-70's always do the best in the long run.
I am a little jealous concerning your silver dealer that puts aside older constitutional silver for you. It is so good to develop relationships in this work Thanks fot the session.
My LCS has some dimes and quarters, I bought all his Franklins and 64 JFK's., and 20 1964 Quarters that look BU. My daughter and her husband came with and made their first silver purchase. They spent $850ish today. A sealed roll of 2015 Eagles, a Panda, a Kook, a Maple, and 17 halves, a mix of Franklins and 64 JFK's. 90% was bought at 20 times face.
Nice set of Barber coins. I lucked ouf a couple of years ago and found a 1913 S Barber half dollar coin roll hunting and it was a ender. If memory serves me right the mintage was around 600k.
I have a wheat book almost completely filled from bulk purchases. Only missing the 09s VDB. I love these kinds of buys cause you never know what you’ll get. I’ve found 4 1931s!!
Ive been getting a good number of barber coins lately at 20x face filling out albums. Also got a deal in getting an old silver commemorative half for $9.
Nice bunch of silver coins! I checked a bag of pennies yesterday 10/28 and got 8 wheat pennies and I think it’s the first time I ever got the 1947 leaf Canadian penny and the 1947 no leaf penny in the same bunch.
Love your videos rob! I recently started searching rolls from my local banks if they will give me the rolls. I’ve found some cool stuff. I enjoy your videos a lot! I’ve become a coin freak, and your my favorite RU-vidr to watch, and learn from! Thank you again, and happy hunting!
I would love for you to do a video looking at the cost of the "coins by the pound" deals that a couple tubers are pushing at CoinsTV...it seems very expensive vs. P purchasing at a multiple of face like you do, someone was asking about this on the livestream Friday, so I know I am not the only one with questions on it.
Hey if you want to sell a few of the extras. I saw a few I need for my dansco. Here's the list I need. Lmk if you want to sell the ones you got in this video. I know I'm late a month lol but I figure I'd try. Thanks Rob. Love these videos! My favorite series I think. 1892o,s,93s,94o,95o,s,96o,s,97o,s,98o,s 99s,1900s,01o,s,02s,03s,05s,08s,11s,13 13s,14s,15s
I just like looking through old coins and stamps. It's just the jazz of their history. Most of the people who originally handled them are dead now. Old bank checks are cool too, I some from the 18th century. That stuff is so cool to look at. Very nice brother!! Remember G4 still have slightly worn rims, if the rims are gone G1.
Quite the silver purchase there. I don't collect coins in the numis or the full collection sense, so the old Barbers don't really grab me. I'd rather have a fat but entirely ordinary 1963 quarter, frankly, than a beat up Barber. But looks like you grabbed what pleases you, so congrats on your big haul!
You got lucky . The people that sold it too you , didnt know what they were selling , and didnt bother to look at their own products before hand . That is good for you , but as time goes on , the chances are getting fewer , and far between . Something that old should have been researched by the seller , long before it went to market .
