@@Mygg_Jeager It's a movie from an Armenian Soviet director, Sergei Parajanov, The Color of the Pomegranates. It is a cut version clip that perfectly matches the music.
For people wondering about the first woman vocal, it's a Bulgarian folk song called Prituri se Planinata, quite different than the Arabic song after that.
@cihan Fascination has some different senses, one of them is a sense where a person is absorbed by the content, sort of like hypnotized by the imagery, I think that may be the sense this person was meaning rather than in the more commonly used sense of some subject of great interest when heard or studied.
@Mahboob Van Oberstein it's not a russian film at all- film is about life of armenian poet and monk - Saiat Nova and author - Parajanovi by himself was an armenian moviemaker. The fact he lived in Soviet era doesn't makes his creations ,,russian" (I love russian cinema - nothing against it, but work of Parajanovi is clearly not russian - it's clearly built on caucasian ( georgian and armenian) christian cultures', pagan past's and persian culture's esthetics. Nor Armenia or Georgia is part of Russia and both have very strong cultural identities with longer cultural past, then Russian emperial past by itself.
@Mahboob Van Oberstein Don't need to generalize, it's wrong, you can say Armenian Soviet film, but not Russian anyway. There were 15 republics in Soviet Union , Russia one of them. The Color of Pomegranates directed in "Armenfilm" - Armenian film studio located in Yerevan, Armenia, by Armenians about Armenian poet and Armenian culture, in Armenian language (!). Its like insult to call it other way, again, call it Soviet or Soviet Armenian but not Russian.
Paradjanov's film is a true masterpiece, and this is one of the greatest music videos ever. The song is also one of the greatest electronic tracks ever made.
@@adampaul454 I would say yes it definitely is among the best. Hearing this live and loud was amazing. Of course musical tastes are subjective, but it is difficult to come away from an experience like this feeling nothing.
The scene where they press the water out of the books with stones and then it shows the boy laying with them as they dry in the wind. That is so powerful. I will never get that image out of my head as long as I live.
If all the books in the world were burned, computers destroyed. Science, mathematics, physics, all things of this sort will be written again all the same. But religion would be lost.
This makes me feel in touch with a part of my brain that I did not know I had. In it, I feel what it felt like in the old eras with persian castles, the smells, the gestures, the day by day sensations and that time before one goes to sleep. And at the same time, it fills me with thoughts of a crazy calm.
This video... This beautiful song... Could be from 1997, yes. Congratulations to the Juno Reactor artists! It feels good to hear in 2022! Thank you! Unfortunately, no one makes music like you did anymore!
Nor does Ben Watkins (aka Juno Reactor). I bought the double vinyl Bible of Dreams when it came out and was waiting with so much expectations for his next record ( I think it was "Pistolero") but I was so dissappointed.
This is by far the most creative and interesting piece of music that still is able to capture me. It is strange but memorizing, even the video seems to capture the song quite well, but what's amazing is that the artist did not create the video but simply put the two together. The song and movie are mysterious and in it's essence this song to me captures that fearful power of God which is great and the song on its own is poetic. You really have to be almost an artist to understand this song.
The video is actually from a 70s movie called "the colour of pomegranates." It was an artistic Armenian Independence peace, filmed during the Cold War. I recommend you look it up and watch it. :-)
Great song and great video, gorgeous mystical imagery. The two splice together seamlessly. Anyone notice the song's voice samples from Moses in The Ten Commandments movie?
The backing voice is taken from here: /watch?v=Eubf1UkwZfg which is an electronic remix of a traditional Bulgarian song. The very original is here: /watch?v=P_Y7abspLSA The singer's name is Stefka Sabotinova.
+Ryan Duty , the film maker Sergei Parajanov was a visionary and suffered for his art. You can find the film on youtube, it's called The Color of Pomegranates. Study it, it will blow your mind. I'm also very happy that Juno Reactor has brought back interest in this film by getting the rights to use it for his video. As you said, it's a perfect match.
Always loved this track! I go ape-shit crazy every time I hear it in the club! Just watched the movie & now I understand the video better! Thanks for the upload!
Thank you! Never understood why it was played at the Goth clubs, but whenever it came on I always asked someone to show me how to Macarena dance to it! Lol
When I saw this on MTV at 2am I thought there was hope for something else this good on MTV, but sadly that era would be ending soon, back in 1998 or so. I did a lot of waiting for nothing. MTV was such a cruel tease!
This video open #MTVChillOutZone today on 1.05.22 on #MTVGermany where #ChillOutZone airs again on weekends at 5 am on #MTVDE courtesy of 25 years of German #MTV
Never heard of the artist or seen their videos. Interesting vid, such imagery and cinematography. Lots of religious overtones and Babylonian atmosphere

jjkhawaiian It's kind of a cult director. Even Mark Romanek used some elements for "Bedtime story", with the approval from Madonna.
Stealing Fire Nevermind, I'm an idiot. Just saw the description that this is a fanmade video from a film. Going to check this film out.

Stealing Fire This is the original video, it's not "fanmade". Juno Reactor took some footage from "The color of Pomegranates" and made his own video, which matches perfectly with his song. Also, Nicolas Jaar made an alternative soundtrack for this film in recent times, because it's a masterpiece of surrealism and one of the most beautiful films ever made.
the entirety of the film featured in the video is on netflix with subtitles, but beware it moves at a much more gradual pace, and should only probably be watched while stoned
My grandparents were lucky to be in Sergey's Parajanov filming group he was called my grandmother madam in tiger coat, and when my grandad were lagged out wether he get in one of the Georgias chapel's,Sergey shout - Arthur go inside the chapel! It has became joke among filming group! When they're filming Sayat Nova Sergey also find a little icon of George the Saint and gifted it to them then later on i was born, and i always joke, Sergey was my surrealistic Grandfather in law!
The background singing reminds me a lot of the music I heard on the radio in Afghanistan. I came home from my deployment and heard this song at Club Ascension in San Diego and decided to look it up. Awesome song and the video matches it very well.
about video (sayat nova): "This film does not attempt to tell the life story of a poet. Rather the film maker tried to recreate the poet's inner world through the trepidations of his soul, his passions and torments, widely utilizing the symbolism and allegories specific to the tradition of Medieval Armenian peot-troubadours (Ashough)"
żubrOFFka MovieFestival Ploand Legendary band Juno Reactor, who made soundtrack to films such us "Matrix", "Mortal Kombat" will perform in Białystok. Heard this on a blank cd growing up maybe 6 or 7 years old and to find it now is mind blowing with all the memories tied to the years I first heard this masterpiece
Can anyone confirm if that is Natacha Atlas doing the female vocals; I have only read rumors but nothing solid. The closest I could get is that she may have broken a contract by singing on this song and therefore could never directly admit to it - BUT that beautiful voice, here signature singing, and the name on the song's credits ("Tash Alexander"???) I believe are good signs that it's her.
Juno guyz my soulmates! Respect and most important keep it real as you allways do :P The thing i was trying to say i think you are the most talented and loved group + my brother manolo aka roberto rodriguez!! My most loved big brother who i am most at galaxy high proud! Thank you for making great music!!
God is God, im the Man, im at his image, im his will and his arm. God is God, the alfa and te omega, the beggining and the end. God is God, the path and the master, the soul and the inspiration. Im the Man, the walker, im the artist. God is God.
My husband: "I feel like I'm watching mime humor." Then I found the movie used in this video, The Color of Pomegranates, and was just mesmerized. Then I realized he'd been standing behind me, watching in the same fascination.
The world of music ended with this. We have yet to meet the same level of creative artistry in music since. Taylor Swift getting accolades today? How far we have fallen how low the bar has been set. Sad.
