These are the sounds of my teenager years... of the early-to-mid-'80s. Love the pure analog, but you also need a generous dash of digital. At that time there was crossover of the two.
I like this channel over other channels because you show us how the synths actually sound in a musical way as oppose to other channels just playing a note and sweeping through frequencies.
That's like a long intro for Miami Vice. I had time to make my popcorn and settle in for some classic Miami 80's clothes and fancy cars but the show never started.
My thought exactly, but I settled for my own imagination: Crocket & Tubbs are chasing bad guys across a sun-drenched ocean in the Scarab powerboat at full throttle :-)
I'm loving the sequenced baseline. it's like an epic trance banger only 80s flavoured. The whole song works so well. Closed my eyes and drifted. Big thumbs up
@@SynthManiaDotCom No, it still needs an osc. sync second lead, Amiga trumpet fanfare, orchestral hits, and a vocodered voice talking about blasting off or weapons systems ready or whatever. You are right that it's not Synthwave so it's closer to Spacesynth but I wouldn't technically call it either.
Didn’t Alan Wilder make all his DM patches for the Emulator available to the public? Too bad he’s not with DM anymore, but it was a cool move to grace us with his signature patches.

The Emulator 2 was so damn expensive back in the day. Agree about adding the dash of digital. The Analog sounds ground the piece but with a bit of digital synthesis / samples you nail the mid eighties sound. I hit 20 in the mid 70s and this rings back the memories....please add this one to your hopefully planned released set 🙂
Thanks so much - yes, it's amazing how much technology has evolved and now we have so much more power on a smart phone than an Emulator ever had, at a fraction of the price.
@@SynthManiaDotCom I absolutely agree, but how much more fun is a rack full of synths, and lets not get into analog sounding better than digital, my opinion is, if it sounds good it is good.
I'm surprised a video game developer hasn't asked you to make a Streets of Rage-style soundtrack for a retro beat-em-up yet. I'm also impressed at the way you manage to do credible-sounding 1980s Eurodisco and 1990s house music - very few musicians back in the day made the transition between those two styles successfully. Also, it's refreshing to see a music demonstration channel where the musician isn't playing blues licks on electric guitar.

There was a Dutch synth group in the 80's called "Laserdance" that did a lot of these tunes. Instantly reminds me of their album Technological Mind. Speed it a bit up and you're spot on. Super!
@@JEANBRUCE1991 Yes, that was the producer on most of their albums. It's no secret he had all the good stuff from that time in his studio. Mastermind and music store owner Erik van Vliet also produced for Italo Disco artists.

I love these sounds! There’s something about early 80s electronic instruments. I guess they are some of the earliest musical sounds I remember. Besides the music, I also like how you’ve been having the title appear after the start of the video. It’s like the video is saying, “now we have arrived.”

Thanks! This is actually not Synthwave, it's '80s music created with machines from the '80s, done by a Gen X guy who lived in the '80s - but yeah, Synthwave is a nice modern genre created with software plugins, done by millennials
@@SynthManiaDotCom Ha! I know what you both mean. Sometimes, though, love of one thing can lead to love of another. As a millennial (born a few years after these synths were released), I discovered synthwave a couple of years ago and love it, but then became fascinated with the original instruments and music from the 1980s. I have some nice (modern) analog instruments from Moog and Korg now, and hope to continue expanding the collection and making music with it. It's inspiring to watch you perform 80s music on the original hardware -- and your tutorials/explanations are always appreciated!
@@SynthManiaDotCom I know, I've been following you for a fair few years now and love most of the content you put out. I meant no disrespect when I mentioned synthwave as I too own a few 80's vintage synths and am from the same generation as yourself but was just drawing parallels from where the whole synthwave scene got it's influence, hence the 'vibe'.

It's sad to see a YT guy playing like Alan Wilder operating 2-3 synth at the same time and a multimillionaire like Andy Fletcher still uses 2 fingers after 40 years in business.
I need to get an Emulator II next, with the new addition of a Moog Source and JX-3P to my collection I have enough analog rolling around in my room to justify it at this point haha
Oh trust me I’m not at his level yet I’m pretty deep in for a 23 year old working a manual labor job hahahaha But I would never get a synth just for the sake of it, I use all of them every day, nothing I’d rather put my money in to other than savings and investments ha
@@TheWarhammerfreak Don't stop your passion either. When I was your age I had three Roland's, an Ensonic, a few drum pads, a hefty computer system running it all. I ended up in a truck accident and became disabled. Eventually I had to sell my gear to get by. Thankfully I'm on my feet again, and the world of soft synths and good DAW's let me have fun again these days. My point is though that you should never waste an opportunity to enjoy your passions. Have fun. Good luck finding all you want for your collection!
Nicely done! This was the setup I so desperately wanted back in 1984, but instead wound up with the budget version of a Prophet 600, TR-909, and Ensoniq Mirage.

Absolutely fantastic! I love seeing the Pro~One finally getting the love it always deserved. It was my first synth, and it got me on my way to a wonderful musical journey. Took a few more years to get my hands on a Jupiter-8, but it was worth the wait. Never got an E-II back in the day, but ran a pair of EMAX-IIs along with a massive pile of other gear for a long time.

Really enjoyed this tune! For the record, the 80s were the best time of my life, but until now I always though the sound of the 80s was a reflection of the times, rather than simply the sound of the instruments...

That Emu Synclavier sound... OMG I sooo love it! This piece of work takes me back to some of your truly amazing stuff I listen to over and over offline... "Festa In Soffitta" for example! You sooo need to produce an album of this stuff!
In the mid '80s I was glad my mate's dad was a well-paid pro concert pianist who encouraged him to play keyboards: he got an SH-101 for his birthday and a Korg (the model of which I can't remember) a few months later. Me, I had a Casio MT-68. But we both craved for a Jupiter-8.
A perfect mashup between Flexxyball’s “Love theme” bassline, analog session’s “N5 from outer space” on refrain theme and some The twins flavors here and there. Nice tune.

This is the setup my brother used in the eighties playing soul and funk and R&B, with a bunch of people back then. Mostly Luther Vandross. Great chunk of gear.!
