This was a year after BATMAN RETURNS, which was also rated PG-13 and angered many parents, because it was too dark and suggestive. McDonald's discontinued its Happy Meal toys.
It’s a PG in the UK. I don’t think it needs to have a higher rating than that. Kids love to be scared. I remember seeing it for the first time when I was 5 years old and absolutely loved it!
Absolutely! But people still keeps buying tickets to see today's crap. It has to happen a complete boycott of the film industry, to Hollywood realize that the audience is not some piece of meat. Cinema is the 7th art afterall, and it has to be treated like it.
techno639 Nice set of years. 1977 - Star Wars/1985 - Back To The Future/1993 - Jurassic Park. The movies that represented those particular years for me.
Polymathically I first saw that scene in or around 2001 when I was 4. My mom was walking through Walmart and there were Jurassic park movies playing on TVs everywhere and Jurassic park toys for sale everywhere. We watched the movie from when they find the dead triceratops to Nedrys death, then my mom moved me along because she said I was shaking. The trex attack and nedrys death ate burned into my memory as well.
I was 5 and I vaguely remember my mom telling my dad while we were in line, "if the kids get even a little bit scared, we're leaving " but all of us were mesmerized the whole time. Seeing this movie is one of my earliest memories.
In 1993 i was at the premiere and it really blew my mind. I couldn’t believe my eyes when i saw the brachiosaurus for the first time, my reaction was exactly like the characters of the movie lol
Times were innocent..you can smell it. Before the internet life indeed was better. The early 90s.... Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, The Lion King, my happiest memories. Just look at the innocence. I will give anything to exist in a time bubble of 1991-1995 forever.
There was no RU-vid internet that time, so the audience could feel the deep reaction feeling of that movie. One of the best 90s Golden era that, every of your imagination can come true.
senseisifu Yea.. I'm very aware cgi was used the film. lol I disagree that the "cgi" was the only reason for the film's success however. Great pacing, excellent performances, breathtaking sets, and wonderfully life like animotronics had a strong part in that. I know what movie magic is for me.. and over use of blue screens, and cgi in general, does not instill that "feeling". I'm glad you felt strongly enough to tell me what you think movie magic is, but I think you missed the point of my comment in the first place.. lol
The "movie magic" you speak of is mostly thanks to the cgi. Even though a lot of animatronic was used in this movie, it was the first time we've seen such convincing full body creatures.. all thanks to cgi. Of course it doesn't impress anymore after seeing so much.. but back then, it was the first time ever.
Thiago Vidal Not really. I'm speaking of "movie magic" in general. Seeing the people all wide eyed, and excited like children. That's what I'm sorta talking about, not necessarily the 'actual' movie it's self. I understand what your sayin' tho. I feel the same way. Now-a-days almost everything is cgi. The sets, the backgrounds, the vehicles, lighting accents on actors, weather effects, etc, etc. It all looks good.. just some of that "magic" is gone.. that's all I'm sayin.
Exactly. It's gone because we've seen it all. Jurassic Park was a first for everyone.. we don't get that "first" anymore... everything we see today is something we've seen before.. sometimes slightly better but never a huge leap like Jurassic Park was in 93.. and Star Wars was 77...
It really was the only thing (CGI) that made the ''movie magic''. Spielberg himself said it. CGI was the star of the movie and it was its kickstarter for its implement in future titles. Watch the 'Jurassic Park's T-Rex Paddock Attack - Art of the Scene'' Cinefix's video. Everything it's explained there in details. CGI being the main factor it's not an opinion, but facts.
I saw this when I was a little kid, and I wasn't scared one bit. (ie Hiding or closing my eyes, lol) I sat there with wild eyes and mouth agape, through the whole thing. It was simply one of the greatest experiences I've ever had, and is still my number 1, all time favorite film!! (TLW is my 2nd favorite film of all time as these movies WERE my childhood!!)
I saw this in the cinema with my family when I was 6 and I vividly remember jumping from my seat when the raptor tried to attack Ellie from behind. I'm sl glad my parents weren't afraid to expose me to films like this :) Jurassic Park shaped so many wonderful memories of my childhood. Love you mum & dad x
typical boomer thinking lol people in the past and now have always been either sophisticated or immature, stop acting as if the past was better than today’s generation, I’m sure of all people you guys should have known that by now
Fucking hell imagine that your whole life and even up to the same year, monster movies were done by costumes and stop motion animation then Hollywood backhands you with fucken Jurassic Park with some of the best CG and special effects to date, I'd probably have shit myself watching it.
Seeing this movie and, a few years later, *The Lost World* in the movies as a kid has been my *FAVORITE* movies experience ever! Nothing has come close. ❤️ I feel sorry for those who only got to experience *Jurassic Park III* or the *Jurassic World* movies in theaters. I sincerely do.
Unfortunately I was only 1 when this classic came out so didn't get to experience it in cinema BUT fast foward to 1997 and I believe I was around 5 years old and my older brother took me to watch the lost world. Absolutely amazing, remember it like it was yesterday. The trees all shaking when the T Rex is walking under the high hide raised my heart rate. Remmeber leaving the cinema and I was shocked because it was dark outside and I wanted my parents to pick me up quick before we got eaten by a dinosaur 😂
I saw this when it first came out and it was AWESOME! Still the best Movie experience I’ve had at the Theater. We gave the Film a standing ovation after it was over.
The single most perfect time frame of my life. June 11, 1993. I was 13. Just a week away from graduating 8th grade to proceed into the summer before high school. My best friend of all time and myself had just read the book a few weeks ago during the spring. The planets were aligned for me in the most perfect way possible. Then seeing the movie opening night. Then again the next night. Then 11 more times in the theater that summer. Perfect.
Back in 1993 I was on a trip to LA, staying in Santa Monica probably a week into Jurassic Park’s release....my coworker and I both lived in UK and thought it would be a great scoop to see it before it got released in UK/Europe....the multiplex movie theatre in Santa Monica was showing it on quite a few of its screens such was the demand....it was truly mind-blowing and the audience reaction was fantastic, especially during the first T-Rex scene where it attacks the children in the Jeep and unfortunately I find the Jurassic World follow ups have a certain hollow predictability that just doesn’t have that shock effect of the first movie. It was the same thing with Jaws with weak exploitation sequels....in fact, the only Spielberg originally directed movie that produced a superior sequel was Indiana Jones III, which worked so well because Connery and Ford were a great combination as father and son and of course Spielberg directed again.
I’ve no idea why I randomly had the urge to search this... This was _not_ a typical ‘RU-vid recommended this’ moment - I actually searched for this at 9am...
I am lucky enough to witness this magical movie's sequal in the theatre. I was a baby then seating on my mom's lap, but hey... I've started my life by watching none other than Jurassic Park the lost island ❤️ 😍 what more you want in your life. Thanks Mr. Spielberg, I feel so good now.
Great find! I was 7 when I saw this in the theaters, I'll never forget it. I remember everyone cracking up when Jeff Goldblum was being chased by the T-Rex when he tries to distract with the flare, LOL.
And Star Wars opened with $11 million and we all know how big that movie is. In 20 years 208 million feels pretty small when we are looking at half a billion opening weekends
Local theater was playing it yesterday along with some other classics. It has always been my dream to see the film in theaters and I was not disappointed. The arrival of the T Rex was an absolute thrill ride!
When I was 9, I begged my parents to take me to go see this. I think they were worried it would be a bit too intense, but we saw it anyway. Oh my goodness, it was something to behold. Just imagine being 9, seeing all this incredible CGI and practical effect magic on screen. I remember just watching with a huge smile on my face and whispering "Cool..." over and over again to myself. It turned me into a dinosaur kid and it still has a soft spot in my heart to this day. I'm so glad I was there for it. It felt like real, genuine movie magic.
I was 9, it was showing in my country and i remember being so fascinated by any news about this film back then. Unfortunately i didnt get to watch it in cinema until the rerelease in 2013 exactly 20 years later with my wife. Talk about living your childhood dreams.
I remember watching this movie in theaters as a kid. It was night and was very cold, I remember walking out in my big puffy jacket. No idea what movie we were gonna see, all I new could still remember the smell of popcorn and soda. Me grabbing my baggie of popcorn, sitting down to watch this film was hit with that iconic intro to the movie. It both and scared me as a kid, the secene with the Dilophosaurus scared me so much as a kid. I remember my birthday my mom got me a walking dilophosaurs from the film that both roar and did the frill flapping. I forgot what it was called and have bee. Searching for ages for it
I was about 4 1/2 years old when I saw this movie in the theaters, the earliest movie I remember seeing in the cinema. There's a reason it was the earliest movie I remember.
My dad took me to go see this movie when I was 7 and it was incredible. We all went to buy the vhs and it was raining outside the windows when we watched it at home that first weekend.
I watched this in the cinema when I was 8 years old with my 18 year old sister. Had nightmares about being chased by a T-Rex for years. Still worth it.
Big folks say violent for kids but kids are weirdos who like violence. Sure, they get scared but they can process it because it is part of human nature. John Williams' score is the soothing syrup that calms all the nerves!
drfunk1986 -- It's kinda amazing how "violence" is perceived in entertainment/media. I mean, we can look 25 years back on this now and sort of encourage the "darker" elements of the film. But for a lot of people (at the time), this was groundbreaking for its time. We can say the same about Spielberg's other classic, "Jaws". Nowadays, the violence and gore is pretty tame compared to what see in modern cinema. But for 1975? Holy hell. Spielberg took a lot of risks in his filmmaking to make "Jaws" as suspenseful as it is.
violence and sex has always been a "fluctuating factor" in films.. but the main crucial difference is children's perception versus adults' perception..
This was the first movie i went to watch with my family. I was 4 yo. The first week, they cancelled the booking because the dino was screaming too much. Then we went the next weekend! What days!!! I was in Behala, Kolkata, India!
My dad said he went and saw it at the release and he had no idea what the movie was even about. He used to go buy random movie tickets and watch them. He said he about shit his pants when rexy broke the fence. He said the best visual he can give everyone is in jurassic park 2, the lost world when the trex knocks the bowling ball off of the gas station and Malcolm throws himself back against the chair in surprise, that's how my dad said the theatre reacted to seeing the dinosaurs for the first time and it was surreal and terrifying. I watched it for the first time when I was 3 and I was so obsessed with it I watched it everyday until I was 12 and then it became once every few weeks and then once every few months. My mom worked with me so much when I was little that I was 12th grade reading level by second grade and that was the year I read jurassic park all the way through. My family also says that I told people from when I was 5 all the way until I was 10 that I wanted to be a paleontologist and dig up dinosaur bones like doctor grant
One thing scary is that the dinosaurs looked real! The filmmakers really put a lot of hard and very expensive work into this film. Honestly in my opinion the cgi in this movie looks more real than in most movies these days!
I remember my first time watching this film 😅..i was crying and disturbing everyone..so i had to go outside while my parents enjoyed the rest of the movie.. that's the moment i realised i can't watch horror movies...
It's insane hoh the Franchise has come along way from the 90s. With the Final Installment in the Jurassic Saga on the way, it's truly going to excite the entire world.
I wanna punch whoever complained that the movie was too violent for the younger viewers...lol i mean, Jaws showed a SEVERED leg with blood and torn meat...and a couple of people getting eaten on screen..and it was rated PG!
I was born in January of 92, so I was too young to see this in theaters, but I can imagine what people's faces in the theaters must have looked like when they saw it for the first time.
Not to brag, but the only scene that ever scared me as a child was the goat leg landing on the car. I guess it's hard to be afraid when you love dinosaurs. However, I was afraid of the T-Rexes in Land Before Time just because I had an irrational fear of things with red eyes.
