Join us as we explore the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation in search of giant dinosaurs, and clues to how they lived and evolved in their ancient world...
In Jurassic Reimagined part 1, we'll introduce you to the Morrison Formation, what it is, and how it formed, and what we know about it's geology and its dinosaur diversity. And even after 150 years of intense scientific exploration and study, the Jurassic rocks of north America still hold many mysteries, and countless fossils still waiting to be discovered.
This documentary series was made in collaboration with paleontologists Matt Wedel, ReBecca Hunt-Foster and John Foster, and was filmed by paleoartist Brian Engh over the course of five years exploring the Jurassic rocks of Utah and Colorado.
To see more of my art, visit my website dontmesswithdinosaurs.com
You can also follow me on FB/Twitter/Instagram @BrianEngh_art
You can find ReBecca Hunt-Foster on Instagram and Twitter @Paleochick
You can follow Matt Wedel's blog on all things anatomy and giant sauropod dinosaurs at svpow.com/
You can see John Foster hard at work in the fossil preparation lab at the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum in Vernal Utah, where you can also see some of the fossils we've collected during the making of this documentary.
We also owe a big thanks to Dr. Randall Irmis, Carrie Levitt-Bussian and Tyler Birthisel, the Natural History Museum of Utah, who have been working with John in collaboration with the to excavate the rare sauropod Dystrophaeus.

I am still working on Jurassic Reimagined parts 2 and 3, in part because we have found SO MANY new fossils! Since releasing part 1 we've been excavating, preparing and identifying finds, and refining our understanding of their stratigraphic position in time. All of these new discoveries and perspectives will be included in the upcoming segments of the doc, along with a TON of new art and animation. I had no idea how premature I was in releasing part 1 when I did, but the rabbit hole of the Morrison just keeps. on. going. ALSO, I have been really busy with commissions, so unfortunately Jurassic Reimagined has spent some time on the back burner while I make a living. If you want to help make it possible for me to spend more time focusing on my own projects, consider supporting my work on patreon.com/historianhimself where you can also see some behind the scenes sneak peaks of upcoming parts of Jurassic Reimagined...

I grew up loving dinosaurs from the late 70's into the 80's and on. I remember the art of the time with all the sluggish, plodding behemoths. Its pretty awesome seeing how the view on them has changed over the decades. I am still fascinated by the discoveries being found and sometimes wish I had pursued a career in paleontology like I used to dream about as a kid.

Absolutely fantastic job on this! Honestly, based on your descriptions of the preservational environments of the middle and lower Morrison formations, it seems like one plausible cause for the rarity of dinosaur remains would be because those marine/tidal flat environments were not ideal habitats for the same dinosaurs found in the Upper Morrison. That said I do not work in the Morrison so perhaps this idea has already been rejected for some reason, just thought I'd put that out there. We also have a HUGE Brachiosaurus foot in the KU collection that can't go on display due to being radioactive! The astragalus alone is at least 40-50cm wide!

For ie: your argument (which is entirely logical) on big ass dinos not being grey or boring flat colors but instead probably mimicked colorful feathers and skin much like birds! Love the arguments brought up, the theories and ideas behind them… pls don’t quit sharing!!!
