Jury selection began Tuesday in Alec Baldwin's trial over the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the "Rust" film set in New Mexico. Baldwin is charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the 2021 shooting. CBS News' Elise Preston has the latest on the Monday's pretrial hearing and Tuesday's jury selection.

All of the testimony by firearms experts at the Gutierrez trial was that it was the armorer’s responsibility, NOT the actor’s responsibility, to make sure all firearms used on the movie set were safe. And in fact the armorer was convicted for failing to do just that. Given the prior adjudication, I don’t see how the prosecutor gets away with charging the actor. It looks like a bad-faith, vindictive prosecution.

Why did he pull the trigger? He unalived a cinematographer and injured a director. Not an actor. It was not a scene. Any basic firearm training teaches you never point to a person and, of course, never pull a trigger just for fun. You will be banned from any shooting range for life for doing something even remotely as dangerous.

He should have never been charged in the first place. The set armorer is the one responsible and brought to justice.

What I don't understand is why forensics didn't check the fatal bullet casing for fingerprints? It would clearly show who put the round in the chamber. If there were no fingerprints then someone wiped it down. I understand Hannah was not in the Church either because she didn't know they were practicing or she wasn't allowed. Why is there no film footage of the shooting?

It is not the actor's responsibility to monitor the safety of a gun , I really don't like Baldwin that much but I have to be honest, he is not responsible . It doesn't matter whether the gun went off by itself or not the responsibility lies with the safety team that is paid to be responsible for the safety of anyone on the set, New Mexico state is known for milking judicial processes to create revenue.
