I supposed I've become an old romantic in my later years, but I love to see a capable young man chase what seems to be an impossible dream and actually make it come real! You have done an admirable job and set a great example not just for your kids, but for young people all over. I know you've grabbed a bull by the horns, but you should be proud of what you've accomplished. You clearly have a vision and are sticking to it. Lastly, but certainly not least, you're very fortunate to have such devoted friends who are willing to sacrifice their time to give you a hand - for that alone, I'm envious. Keep up the great work - you and your crew are the highlight of my day! Godspeed!

We had a massive plumbing leak in our 120 year old home outside Philadelphia, PA, USA and had the money to fix the issue, but weren't ready for the level of renovation that ensued. That's about when we started following your journey. The reasonable pace to get a bit done each day encouraged us as well as your positive attitude. We've learned a ton of new skills and will have a new space soon. All that to say, thank you for the daily grind, excitement for future progress, and positive energy when things don't go to plan. You're helping rebuild more than a chateau.

ok, so I DID go back and watch the first vid and there is this teenager, slender and waifish walking around talking about his dream. I wouldn't have been a nay-sayer but would think it was a pretty big dream. Turns out he wasn't a slender teen but a grown man with not only a dream but the audacity and determination to see it through. I feel so honored to have been privy to this undertaking! Thanks Dan and Brian and Nic and all the others who have come by and helped with the vision. I know there's still a lot left to go but at this point I am absolutely certain ... dreams can come true.

I think its ridiculous when people say something like this is impossible. With enough time, work, and perseverance stuff like this can happen. People restore old houses that have had major damage all the time and they got it done by not giving up on their dream of restoring it. You are the perfect example of not giving up on the project just because its a lot of work. And now finally you are nearing one of the biggest milestones of the project. Once the roof is on and finished things will really begin to go faster. I'm excited to see it happen!

Anything considered structural on the building has to be approved and inspected by local regulatory bodies. That includes engineering reports, architectural drawings and physical inspections. Most of the work on the building has been structural since they cleared it out. Dan has mentioned on occasion engineers, architects and plans so everything's above board. It needs to be above board because at the end you need to get a certificate of habitation at the end for anyone to live in it going by other YTer's restoring old builds in France.

We've watched from the beginning and are always so impressed. Have a suggestion, and apologies if you've gotten this before; didn't read all the comments. You have all the resources to have a cistern water collecting system: there is ample rainfall to collect, your building has a large (very large) footprint, you're already planning to have gutters and, I assume, downspouts, and you have ample real estate around the Chateau to put in an underground cistern. We speak from experience. For 20 years we had a mountain home in New Mexico where there was no ground water even down hundreds of feet, but we were able to have ample water with gutters, cistern collection, and a system of multiple filters which produced potable water. We didn't need to water any landscaping, but in your case water for landscaping could go through just the initial filters, and household water go through all of them. Our only costs for water were the small amount of electrical power used to pump the water approx. 10 feet up to the filters and pressure pump in the house, and occasionally buying new filters. We watch a several chateau-renovation vlogs, gotta say yours is our favorite. (If you had mugs or Tshirts saying "It's a noggin day! I would definitely buy one.) Be careful up there on those beams!

He needs to build a support with padding when trying to take them down. They break and crumble without it. Ideally take a mold in place, then remove, repair and do another mold.

Seems like it's too late. The chateau is from 1900, this was basically already kitsch when it was built. Some nice art nouveau would be a different story.

@@halvarf Still seems appropriate to restore what's left of the original design, 1900 was over 120 years ago and even pieces without much artistic value can be pleasing to the eye. Personally I'd restore the decorative details, valuable or not.

It looks so much safer & quicker with two of you installing the steel beams. However, you must have overloaded the poor Sampson judging by the angle of one pair of the wheels. The Sampson is doing a sterling job. This show never ceases to amaze me, it is one of the highlights of my days.
