I spend a day exploring around the historic city of Butte, Montana! Merchandise: foresty-forests-store.creator... Summit Map: drive.google.com/open?id=12GF... / strava / forestyforest
Hilarious! Foresty, you are a million miles away from becoming a geriatric van life channel. You're just being sensible and leaving the heavy snow behind. Better you and Rocko stay warm and safe. A long winter stretches ahead. A little sunshine is good for you both.
I know. He's does a beautiful video every time and spends 30 seconds in a lot of his videos denegrating his videos. He did such a great job this video giving me history of Butte, and thinks he needs to narrate everything every fricking moment. HE DOESENT EVEN NEED TO TALK. It's fine if he want's to, he does very good at narration. BUT HE DOESN'T NEED TO. His videography is amazing and that's a big reason I love his channel.
The beast who eats mountains for breakfast says he's geriatric while the rest of us actual old folk watch him from the comfort of our warm homes. You rock, Foresty! Rest rules, pace yourself, and I wouldn't want to watch you drive 10 hours anyway. We love your content because you are you.
Seriously, I need to adventure with Forestry for a few weeks or a month and make him understand clearly his true weaknesses and strengths, not the ones he articulates in his videos, because the stuff he says are his weaknesses, I don't think any of us followers ever care about. It's a lot of stuff that doesn't even matter. The thing that matters is his adventurous spirit. His being out in the middle of the most beautiful places on earth and walking, not talking, but walking and doing it. His cinematography is so awesome. His video editing and drone video is breathtaking. He's so awesome and doesn't seem to know it clearly. I don't want him to ever quit his channel because I love his content so much, so I need to make sure he is properly motivated to continue forever! Thankfully, Forest, I live in Boise, Idaho and love Jack Russels and riding bikes so I'm hopeful I'll get a chance to show you some Idaho history someday.
@@eliminator7fulNot sure what you are *TRYING* to say but it doesn't sound nice and you sound like an a$$ for belittling what he says. But then claim he's the greatest??
It's great to see my birth place and old stomping grounds. Thank you for spending some time in Butte. My grandfather worked the copper and silver mines for 25 years. My mom went to school and hung around with Evil Kinevel. I played in the sandbox with Robbie when I was a kid. Thank you for giving me a glimpse of home.
I played university football with some Butte guys and they were honestly the craziest SOB's I've ever met. Seriously, something must be in the drinking water there in Butte. I even joined them in Butte for the annual St Patrick's day celebration. Surprised I made it out alive :)
Thanks for the tour of Butte's historic architecture. Incredible history in that area. I don't think you have to worry about your channel becoming a geriatric channel since you climb mountains that goats fear to tread!
In 1972 I lived and worked as an underground miner in Butte “The Richest Hill on Earth” home to the “Copper Kings.” I worked at the bottom of the Kelly Shaft at the 4,550 foot level. Go out to the hot springs At Anaconda for a soak.
I’d stay as far away from any hot springs in anaconda as possible. Lot of chemicals processed and leaked out there by stauffer chemical way back in the day. Lots of issues caused by them.
I was in Butte with a Scotsman, Australian and Englishman back in 1998. We had driven from Calgary to Tijuana and back on a break before harvest back in Alberta whilst on a year-long Ag Exchange programme.......loved it all! From the UK.....👍
Nice goin' . Ya made me click [ read more ] "Scotsman , Aussie , & Brit" . . . i was fully expecting something else. Soooo , A priest , a Rabbi , & a Minister walk into a bar . The barkeep says: "What _IS_ this, a _JOKE_ " ??
It's sometimes nice to slow down, relax, and enjoy what's around you. The tour through Butte was great! Nice to see the older buildings and hear a little bit about the history there. You ended on firing up the wood stove. It's so cozy in there😍 Thanks for another great video Foresty! You never fail to entertain 😁
i love bieng able to share your adventure. personally, even if your videos are silent, i'm perfectly ok to just exist with your life and the world through your lens.
Fantastic little snippet of "a day in the life of Foresty and his trusty companion". Loved the update and the video on this dreary wet rainy day!! Thank you for sharing of yourself and your passions!! 💞
Spot on! I am qualified for geriatric! By the way, I was 19 year old student working at the summer camp when the group of school kids from Chernobyl area arrived via rehabilitation program, first summer of the disaster. I learned that summer how brave and resilient kids could be, homes lost, parents somewhere away looking for answers… The group I worked with would be seniors that coming school year. All future plans lost, we sneaked at night to the beach to sit at the fire, telling stories, singing quite songs to a guitar. I cannot make myself watch the movie, I know it would hurt just as it did that summer, helpless and angry. Anyone who was not touched by the tragedy has to watch it and remember how fragile and stupid humans are.
No reason you shouldn't head south when you feel like it, it's one of the advantages of Van Life. Thanks FF and Rocko for the always entertaining and well produced videos!
Well, I'm a widowed octogenarian still traversing the country at least 6 months out of the year. I pull a teardrop trailer. I do stay at Walmarts when I'm just passing through an area. My dog and I don't climb mountains but sure do love being on the road. 😊 I really do enjoy watching your adventures, you are amazing and so is Rocko!
@@mountainwench7763 You just took the words out of my mouth, I wish loads more people who travel in the states and Canada would have channels as this Brit loves watching them, but I guess it’s not everyone’s cup of tea being on camera. I’ve made a few videos but don’t particularly like being on camera. I used to live in America for 8 years, love it! Wanting to get back over as soon as I renew my passport. Would love to go check out the RTR in Arizona in January.
@@mountainwench7763 If you live in the Mountains how come you don’t have a channel, are you off grind ? I want some land in the states for some type of build to live in there, those Smoky Mountains are gorgeous in TN.
@@YanksandBritsProductions Haven't been to the Smokys. Would love to see them someday. I live in a small town in Colorado now. We have a channel, but it is not about hiking. www.youtube.com/@pintsizedriotproductions
Someone else asked that same question, and Foresty said that a person rode by him on a bicycle (not shown in the video) and that the husky was following that person (most likely the owner).
I wish I could double-like for your videos. Every time I see you have a new video out I am like a kid at Christmas - I can't wait to watch it... Your channel if far and away my favourite on RU-vid. Foresty Forest - top bloke! 🙂
Also, I love your channel and your easy going down to earth personality. Seems like here lately some of the people on YT are letting the fame go to their head.
Hey…I am a lawyer by trade who is ready to run away for 2 months and so do the van life…You so inspire me and fill my travelling soul with beautiful sights! Loved the footage of the old buildings…would love to spend a night in the old hotel! Enjoy your beer and your fire….magic!!
I love this channel. It gives me real joy at tops of places I could never go and great ideas of easy meals I want to try. ( I LOVE ROCO! ;) She is the best addition to his channel yet. :)
I'm glad you mentioned the diesel fumes. I definitely won't be getting one of those heaters! I used to get headaches and nausea whenever I went below on my Dad's boat -- he had an inboard diesel. It doesn't matter how good the exhaust or how sealed the tank/compartment is. That stuff stinks if you are sensitive to it. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks, Foresty!
It's Butte, America to you! Welcome to Montana! You can spend hours just wandering around uptown reading the historic signs and looking at the buildings.
My Wife grew up in Butte...we still visit from time to time in our camper van. Winter's are brutal there. We're now in AZ and the weather is awesome! 🤗
I have never tried Tillamook. I think I will find some for my mac and cheese for Thanksgiving. 😊My husband loves a sharp chedder. Foresty, I would watch you camp anywhere! You and Rocko are just.... heartwarming, wholesome and completely entertaining. It's just like hanging out with really great friends. I don't blame you for leaving the snow! Y'all take care and be safe out there. Looking forward to whatever adventures you and darling Rocko get in to! If you post it, I will watch it! 😊😊❤❤🐶🐶
Oregon here. If you ever visit you can go to Tillamook & also get freshly made ice cream. The coast is nearby for fresh seafood. Beautiful area. We are friendly, eclectic people. Also, no tax. On anything & you can’t pump your own gas. ☮️
@@stanbyme7874If I were to visit Tillamook, Oregon when I head north next summer, do they have any type of cheese or ice cream factory tours that are open to the public?
This has been on my favourite list for along time, love the content and its better and better. Thanks Simon for taking all of us along. Stay safe out there.
Another foresty forest video to lighten up the day.....I also thought about fumes coming off the cap which is vented on the diesel heater fuel tank when you install it indoors! I simply added a hose fitting to the cap by drilling it out then fitting a hose to the brass fitting and sending it through the rear corner of the van and it exits under the top corner plastics above the tail light. Those caps are a vented cap so everyone who stores them inside gets to breathe those fumes. Hmmm...? A gasoline furnace worries me just because gasoline is so combustible and if the worst happens you may become a foresty burito yourself...??? I'll stick to the dirty fuel as it is difficult to get it to burn without some effort. Keep the video's coming, love them all....I have two Jacks now but are the large framed versions at 30 plus pounds, but I think my next one will again be the same size as Rocko....just easier in a confined space maybe. She certainly is a fine specimen....!
"A day in the van life" looks so relaxing, just what I long for... maybe tomorrow😂 ... or the next day. Thanks for sharing your travels. I haven't gotten enough of my own for years, so must live vicariously. 😊
FF : Foresty.... did you really sleep good at Walmart last night? Also FF : nope. No I didn't. The street sweeper showed up at 2am and started doing laps around the van..... Lol 😂😅😊❤....
I'm in the geriatric zone and I'm pretty sure, Foresty that you are light years away from being geriatric in any way. I enjoyed the interesting tour of Butte, and stay safe and warm during this season.
Hello to you, Dear Foresty! I appreciate the thoughtful and light-handed way that you share information and knowledge. It creates a curiosity to learn more. Greetings from The Canadian Prairies
Came across your channel 1 week back and have watched all your videos. Thanks for those amazing heart soothing sceneries and I adore Rocko 🥹 Love from India ❤
Video has only been up for 40 minutes and already almost 5,000 views! After your meet up with Steve, I raise my coffee mug to show solidarity with the step two. I always enjoy your videos when I can get to one on my coffee break. Happy Thanksgiving to you and the tribe!
Mr. Forest, Thanks so much for your content. A late friend and his wife turned me on to your channel a few years ago. Been watching ever since. Each episode seems to take me back to when he was alive. It is a way to stay connected to a lost friend and keep his memory alive. Thanks for the great content.
HEY! One of your BIGGEST fans here and I live in Montana! But I am east and you won't even find a hill to climb out here! Still fun to see you in my State. Safe travels to you and Rocko and HAPPY THANKSGIVING if you do celebrate the holiday. I am thankful for your channel!
@@BeanCruiserssinging rocks. Ghost towns. Sooooo much to do. Glendive has Makoshika badlands.... Missouri Breaks in north central. So much COOL stuff. Soo large
Oh I just loved this cozy day in the life exploring historical & architectural interests!! Please do more as you move about the States! Sometimes i feel so anxious when watching your mountaineering scenes! Yikes!! 😮palms sweating😱vertigo😵💫muscles tensed😬😵🥴
All of the hundreds of time over a35 years span went throw there day or night wow Such a beautiful place And that my friend is why i love your videos May god bless you always keep you and the pup safe Can hardly wait for our next adventure❤
long time viewer , I don't mind these episodes , I'm envious that you can do this , here in the uk we are so limited , after I went to Banff as a teen I fell in love with Canada (I know you're in the States) but this helps , I can close my eyes and imagine I'm you :) . Takecare buddy , you and rocco :)
My home! I can't express how excited I am to see you finally came here. I love Toll Mountain, awesome place. You did an amazing job showing Butte. Yes the company that maintains the walmart suck. Ive had bouts with them and getting the police involved. They don't care about anything but themselves. I worked there eating lunch one time way out by where you were parked sitting in my car and the guy demanded i move and after politely declining he tried to pull me out of my car. Not making this up. Cops were called, they have had many run complaints from them. If your ever back in Butte my house isn't far if you need a quiet place to park, or a hot shower. Hope you come back soon this summer. There is so much more to explore here within an hours drive. Keep up the great work!
If you are heading to southern Arizona, Simon, I wld like to suggest 2 spectacular hikes in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge area: Signal Peak (trailhead accessed via Kofa Queen Rd.) and Dome Rock Mountain, accessed via Highway 95. Both peaks wld provide great drone footage.
Foresty, I agree about KOFA mountains. It's an abrupt uplift of magical wonder! Stay clear of the Teddy Bear/Jumping Cacti in AZ. If one gets you pick up two hand-sized rocks, using them like hot pads and smash the ball of spikes that will be sticking out of you between the two rocks and pull it out.
Another great vid. Welcome back to the states. I'd love to see more content from the southwest. More Ancestral Puebloans site exploration would be cool. Maybe some stuff in Arizona, or New Mexico.
Really like this Butte tour. I figured it to be a bigger and busier city. I'm an American and you turned me on to Tillamook shredded cheese last year, Thanks!
“This is quickly becoming a geriatric van life channel.” 😂😂 That’s okay. We’d be grateful to grow old along with you. I can no longer drive in the dark. I get it.
You've mentioned having headaches around screens twice that I recall--I'd suggest you go to an eye doctor and get checked out. Sudden headaches around screens could totally be due to squinting/trying to focus. I don't know if you wear contacts or glasses already, but I've always been surprised and relieved at how instantly a new/better pair of glasses has helped me with things like squinting and headaches. It seems dumb, because that eyes should just work, but when they don't, the second best thing is to get good glasses on them right away. Like, people will say, "I can see all the leaves on trees!" and "My squinting and headaches went away!" and it sounds like over-hyping it, but it's really not, not if you actually do need glasses.
I always enjoy your videos, where you go, your hikes, what you cook, and the good videography. My life has gone a different direction so I really enjoy the scenic views you give us. And I appreciate your casual straight up commentary. You give a sense that what we see is who you are, though I know some of that's simply a social media illusion that we all have. I'm sure there's more to you than what's here. I have a 2006 Suburban setup for sleeping. Did a 5-hour trip but ended up staying with friends so I haven't slept in it yet. Looking forward to some road trips. A 68 my adventures now are all geriatric😊 Never been to Butte Montana so it was good to see. Thanks
Thanks for filming some homes and buildings, awesome to see the different types of styles from the past. That Victorian house was a stunner. Really enjoyed everything about this video.
YES! We have yet another reason why we love your content, Simon…besides you and your sidekick, Rocko. We also drink Kicking Horse “Kick Ass” coffee. It’s so yummy and is the absolute best of all. Don’t even bother trying anything else. We have and it cannot be beat!
Might be a bit late since I'm assuming these videos are slightly delayed, but I stay at a pretty nice rest area west of Butte. Easy parking and quiet. It's at Exit 208 on I-90. There are some parking spots away from the rest rooms, etc. Hopefully good for a future visit to the area.
If you ever head down (or up) the Oregon Coast you can stop at the Tilamook cheese factory, well worth the stop, lots of samples, plenty to buy, and ice cream!
