Auto Gamer 0:40 yeah, after years of dirt build up and the angle/position of your hand, its hard to push down on it. I should have shown where the tab was so you can see which way to push the tab.

Luis Gomez the orange plastic ring is what keeps the water out when you drive over puddles so it be best to replace it.

By the way what's that extra wire that's tape up with the plug that go's to the alternator.one is alternator.one is ground What's the other wire for?its taped up with the the alternator plug.

Luis Gomez that would be for positive power. Were you able to get the bottom bolt loose?

I had the same problem, but this is where the position of the alternator needs to be in a certain way. Notice how the pulley part of the alternator is facing you and the bolt mount is at 12 o'clock as you nudge it out. Even then it was a tight squeeze. It looks easy in the video cuz I fast forwarded that part. It took me five minutes to nudge it out. Surprisingly, when you put in the new alternator in this way, it goes in real easy. Let me known if that helps.

Actually on further trial I was able to get it out the way you showed using the proper curse words. That was an absolute hell job. I would rather be mauled in a piece of farm equipment than do that again.Only could use one hand to do everything because there is no room for two.There was plenty of room to have moved something 1/2 inch out of the way to expedite removal but the meatheads at KIA just didn't give a flying f@*k about the end user. I found when I removed the two screws from the A/C block at the firewall the lines had some give allowing me to pry it out.. and then the new one just drops in like nothing....WTF!?!?!? because there was only room for one hand and that hand was covered in under car grease I dropped the fakkin' thing a few times trying to line it up and inadvertantly cracked one of the gas lines under the car so I have a new problem now. Thanks KIA >:(

It was definitely a tight squeeze, that's been my experience with this car. I go in to fix one think but then end up breaking something else.

On the firewall there are two lines coming out that are attached to a plate with two screws in it. I just removed the screws to allow a tiny (and I mean freakin' tiny) amount of play in the lines to allow the alt. to come out. I did not uncouple anything or bend anything that would cause a problem or release the refrigerant. You must be able to work with one hand while your other arm flails about wishing it could do something. But it can't. lol This job I would compare to trying to bathe a cat. With one arm. Oh and after completing this job the car still did the same freakin' thing. >_

your belt is to loose, you need to make it tighter.

its automatic, but they should be the same pin pattern.

B1ryan23 I've never worked on a rio, but if it's similar to the Sephia, the tensioner bolt is right above the alternator. You can see marking it at 0:14.

bsfatboy thnx for the tip. You wouldn't happen to know if a video that shows how to replace the hood latch cable? Mine needs to be replaced but I'm not sure how to go about it exactly. Any help is greatly appreciated thnx

Albino Viper it keeps the water out, if water were to on it, like if you run over a puddle when it rains.

Rickey Rozaay I reused all the bolts from the original alternator so I don't know the exact bolt sizes. But if your looking for a particular bolt, I would contact the parts department of your local KIA dealership. Just have your VIN number to give to them so they can look up the exact bolt part.
