Short, fun drive with more explanation about the car at the end. See my channel for other videos of this car and future projects. Leave a comment if you have a question as I try to answer all questions, even the nasty ones.
That thing is bonkers! I'm going to get my 1973 Super Beetle running soon. Mine is a "sleeper" too. But not for the same reason as yours. Mine drives so slow you could fall asleep from boredom...
Free mods, take out the spare wheel, the back seat, the stereo, speakers, passenger seat, rear parcel shelf and you can put on earplugs then lose the carpet and sound deadening, even the headliner hah, now your bug will be 0.5 seconds faster probably to 60 mph for free. Switch to a lighter oil and pump tires to 18 psi up front and 28 at the back.
I'm nobody special, but after a lifetime of watching automotive customization on TV I can say that I have never seen such attention to detail! I am in awe! Good job! And thank you for sharing your project with me!
Guy's a Genius. Very Impressed. My first car was a 1965 vw bug and I hated it then, would love to have it now. I think mine would do about 65 mph on level ground and at the time i wanted a V-8 car. I payed $85 for it and drove it several years. The heater was terrible.Had a buddy that had a super beetle with a semi-auto trans. Those were the days. Thanks for reminding me of my youth.
With that much front end lift, I wouldn't want to drive it in the snow. Makes my head explode thinking about all the hard work and Ingenuity you put into this project.
unbelievable build quality. it looked a bit terrifying at speed - i could see the front lifting from air. i might have put louvers in the hood to exit the air, but maybe it would have ruined the stock look.
@@JohnReynolds661 Maybe Larry Chen from @HooniganAutoFocus would be a good fit for an overlook. He does some good overviews of builds. Beautiful build and car by the way.
Hi John awesome build you are amazing. I also have a 73 super beetle I picked up last summer in Kentucky. It is a true time capsule .It was last registered in 1976 and has 2332 miles on it and not a scratch on it and it stills smells new inside. The only defect it has is the rear bumper has some rust spots from being parked in the same spot all those years and a drip from the garage roof kept landing on the bumper. Its the same blue as yours just a lot slower. I actually have not registered it yet anxious to drive it this summer. Take care
Thanks for Sharing... The Engineering of your Sleepier Beatle is Just Fabulous. Wow! She Really Goes. I'm afraid a Police Officer would not believe that it could go so fast. Ha ha! Thanks Again
John, love the passion and the craftsmanship on this project. Your attention to the details is great. No need for a radio when you've got the roar of the ej25 and the whine of those dog gears.
Ahhh...That's what I needed to see! Saw the build video, and it just ended. So very happy for u bro. Looks and sounds like a "tun" of fun. Crazy-cool. Thanks for posting.
Wow, just amazing. Probably the most thought out and perfectly reengineered build I've ever seen. I really hope you are building custom cars and selling them for $100k+ like Singer, Ring Bros., etc. do.
All I can say is just WOW!! You are definatlly an inspiration to my build. I also have a 1973 supper beetle with 13k original miles. Would love to learn your ins and outs in fabrication.
Great channel, John! I'm an old guy and when I was younger almost everyone who owned Beatles named them. My '66 Beatle was named "Useless". I enjoyed your sense of humor and your fabrication skills.
Spectacular engineering, fab, and execution! Clean and subtle. Sleeper all the way (except for maybe the roll bar :-) ). Even back in the day ( I had a '71) we tried stuffing bigger tires on our CA bugs. So the bigger rear wheels are not a giveaway. It would be hard to pry me out of that car. I love seeing all of your details.
A great beetle build. Second to none other. The show of power is exciting to watch. I'd love to see a straight line race and course race between your Bug and the V8stealthbeetle! Really would be a Man maker.
Fantastic build. I had a Karman Gaia that I built a insulated cover over the diff and engine area to quell the noises that would normally be deadened by the back seat and interior components. Really quieted it down .
WOW , The quality of this build is phenomenal , and can you imagine how much fun it would be driving around embarassing the hell out of basically everything !
Fantastic project. Excellent engineering! You are quite the artist/mechanic and if I am not mistaken, have some experience in aviation as many of your creations look like they came off of modern business jets. Spent my life modding old Vee Dubs, but nothing like this. Bravo, sir!
Either Magnificent, or "a hoot" I cant decide which. Found this via your most recent Corvair build, even better. Looking forward to future videos. Thanks.
Fact is the car probably handles much more like a Le Mans car than a VW. The extensive frame reinforcement the suspension mods plus I must assert better weight distribution makes it more like a rally car Now no doubt the 500+ HP both creates a thrill (WOW) but also creates enough accel to make the Bug airborne if not careful. Much like the old space shuttle with Hydrogen Boosters riding in this car is a calculated exhilarating insane risk anyone like John or myself John could not resist. Why did John build it? Because he wanted to an could. Excellent craftsmanship, beautiful car and certainly a sleeper of sleepers! Kudos John you have done it! If I'm ever in your area would love a ride! At 70 I can still dish it and take it! Speed forever!!!!
I watched the build video. This is indeed a work of art *and* a marvel of brilliant engineering. I'm certain it handles and brakes far better than any factory Beetle, but it still has Beetle aerodynamics, so it would easily scare last week's dinner out of me! Supposedly, if a Beetle gets sideways at 100 mph, it would generate enough lift to go airborne.
It's actually really cool to see someone who looks almost as awkward as i feel in front of a camera doing some of the most interesting videos on yt. What an amazing piece of engineering that machine is
