Just for Laughs comedy festival cancelled this year due to financial pressures

The Montreal company that operates the Just for Laughs summer comedy festival has cancelled the 2024 edition of the event. Groupe Juste pour rire inc. has filed a notice of intention to make a proposal to creditors.

As a Montrealer and a stand-up comedy fan this is extremely sad news. I hope they can come back but wow, this cancellation is terrible for so many people (especially new performers) and the city itself. :(

I mean, you can make stuff up that there's no evidence of, sure. It could have been leprechauns and unicorns that were responsible maybe too. Or, for those living in reality, there's also been a global pandemic that's had a massive impact on the economy all-around, and on people's behaviour. Not to mention that people are having trouble affording rent and food, and thus having little to spend on non-basic-survival things like leisure activities like comedy festivals. But sure, *maybe* it's "cancel culture", Charlene. But don't rule out those leprechauns and lizard people either! Making up bogeymen afterall is the only way to cover all your bases.
