I am glad I waited for the limited trim. The HUD is awesome, 360 cam, ventilated seats and great too. Living in Orlando with hurricane Ian that just went through I really got to use a feature I haven't really used yet. The AC plug under the back seat. It was a life saver. I ran fridge and a separate freezer and a few lights for about 70 hours straight until got back power. Went from 100% battery to 57% in that time. I think I had to keep in utility mode for it to stay on and I did. Should have got the V2L adapter but kept putting off. But this solution worked!
Glad you were able to use your HI5 backseat plug like that during the power outage. Hope everything is OK. May I ask what kind of extension could you used? I'm interested in preparing to do the same in case of a power outage.
Totally agree! The 360 camera is so much more useful than the parking sensors. For me I wish they had options as well. I would have LOVED to have the dashcam that uses the built in cameras. But being in the US it's not an option at all. Awesome to hear how well the V2L did for you, and glad you're safe!
Thanks everything is okay. I used just a medium duty extension cord, used a splitter because what I was powering was in different locations. I have seen in other countries the 360 cameras can record. I can't imagine it would be that hard to put in the firmware in the US.
One thing you didn’t mention only available on the limited trim is the memory seats/mirrors. This being our first EV in a two car household, it makes the most sense to drive the EV as much as possible regardless of which one of us is driving. So being able to painlessly switch between two drivers seat/mirror positions is critical.
I just bought the 2023 SEL Digital Teal a couple days ago and its a beautiful looking car. Although its fall and I have only driven it briefly I have concerns that come next summer I am going to be regretting that it does not have ventilated seats. I do plan to tint the front windows and put the 98% UV blocking light tint on the front windshield to see if that helps. My main regret so far is the way the car handles stopping and starting. I traded in my BMW i3 which was a pure joy to drive albeit with short range and cramped quarters for the kids in the back but with the Ioniq 5 being a bigger beast maybe I just need to get use to the driving style. Turning off Auto Hold has helped reduce the "lurching" but its still not as smooth as I am use to. The three things I'd love to see through software and/or coding is 1) for the regen level to default on whatever setting it was when the car was turned off vs always in level three, 2) when reversing in iPedal for it to act like its in iPedal vs lurching back (especially when I am pulling out of my tight garage) and 3) for the transition from Auto Hold to driving (forward or back) to be smooth similar to the i3 or a Telsa. PS I really appreciate all your videos Corbin!
i purchased an SE back in August (a couple of days before the IRA was signed, so yay for the tax credit!). one thing i'd love in my SE is the sliding center console. as a big guy, my right leg is consistently resting against the corner of the console with the drivers-side cup holder. i'd love to be able to slide that back a bit for comfort, but also to recover that extra cup holder space 🙂 the only other thing on my wish list would be the ventilated seats. everything else i can live without.
I have the SEL equivalent in Europe and indeed I confirm the HUD, the heat pump, the heated and ventilated seats are all nice features, the most useful is the HUD that I use all the time. No complaints with the sound system... but I am a classical music listener so not looking for powerful bass... Overall it's the best car I have ever owned. Fullstop.
Last weekend I took my I5 Lmtd AWD to and "RIDE & DRIVE" event and got witness some reactions to the Vehicle. The HUD was a hit, but the HUD with NAV ENGAGED really impressed the crowd and really cranked up the "OOOOS & AWESSSSS". So, my suggestion is to skip Apple Car Play and just TRY the Hyundai Heads Up Display with Hyundai Nav and see if you don't agree with me. (It's a little hard to see wearing sunglasses so school yourself on how to adjust the display before testing it.) Birds eye view Camera View? We have an ID4 in the garage without that feature and I miss that feature EVERY time I drive it. However, I LOVE the ID4 for the Puddle Lights and lighted door handle feature. Soooooooo Cool and useful at night. The Ioniq Guy was spot on there.
This is my big gripe as a potential buyer of Ioniq 5 in the future: it feels like Limited is a MUST, not just something I'd like. I do agree the aesthetic changes for Limited aren't a big deal, though. Also agree features like sliding console and auto-parking are usually going to be useless, but I'd want it for those rare times people park like assholes and you can only get in your passenger side (or can't at all). It doesn't happen often but I know I've had to crawl into my car from passenger side before and I would've LOVED a sliding center console in those situations. The reclining seat and rear shades are also things I'd love to have for those rare moments you need/want them. I saw a cool video from a British guy where he used the sliding console to crawl over to his passenger side to pay tolls in Europe when he was having to drive on the other side of the road, so I guess that's a use case for it. Haha.
I've had HUD in my current car for over 5 years and I can take it or leave it. Makes no difference to me. I completely agree about the sunroof. I don't think I've ever opened my sunroof in the 5+ years I've owned it and I too always keep the sun shade closed. I have an order on EV6 top trim and it includes a sunroof of course but I would prefer I could delete it especially if it cost less because of it.
Quite funny that the rain sensors are not standard for the SE version in the US. In Europe, the SE version (Premium over here) gets the rain sensors standard, which I agree are vital. Concerning the black lining I totally agree with you, I think the best looking Ioniq 5 is the SE/SEL with white color (looks like a Star Wars vehicle). In EU tight parking spaces, the parking feature is crucial and I would love to have it on my basic trim, along with the ventilated seats. Otherwise a car close to perfact even in the basic trim.
I do mot agree With you because mine IO5 from nov 21 had a Nice HUD in Holland the Netherlands The otter mines pointes are peanuts , I am very happy With the IO5. so mine advice is buy another car. The IO5 is great..
I haven’t driven the IONIQ 5 with the HUD but I did drive the Genesis GV60 which I’m guessing is similar. The net of it was that I couldn’t see the HUD while wearing my sunglasses. I can see the manual passenger seat as being annoying as well as the lack of exterior lighting. To me, the biggest downside with the IONIQ 5 is the range which is why I’m hoping future versions will have the higher density battery they’re putting in the IONIQ 6. I have the same objection to the GV60. Range needs to be at least 500 km.
To fix the seat issue just get your windows tinted with max heat rejection. You can do the front windshield with clear heat rejection too. That helps a ton on super hot summer days. Also the AC doesn’t have to work nearly as hard so it saves power.
I’m happy with my SEL AWD. Some of the stuff you miss might be nice but I don’t miss them - maybe because I never had them. Overall I still don’t think they would compensate for the increased trunk room and smaller wheels/slightly better mileage on the SEL. That said I agree that it would be nice to have more options. But first they need to have more availability overall. What do option packages matter if you just can’t find any cars?
For me the main reason to get a limited was actuallythe 360° surround cam. Without this feature parking or even getting out of my own driveway would be almost impossible, because everything is tightly packed over here (Germany, metropolian area).
I’ve used the fob parking feature several times. At work the driver of a large pickup next to me sometimes parks much too close. Same goes for a few other places in town I frequent where the parking spots are too narrow. So for me it’s a handy feature, and it’s nice not having to wriggle my way through a sliver of an opening anymore.
Actually, there is another key reason. It has to do with the typical Marketing vs. Production team battle/compromise. The Marketing folks, if they could, would have a gazillion options to increase unit sales. Any manufacturing guy would tell you: “Are you crazy? Gazillions options/packages lead to complexity which lead to quality issues, which leads to huge inventory, and then, certainly to increased costs. Toyota and Honda understood this in the 90s, I believe, and started introducing something like three/four models per make. You have the base model, like the Civic LX, the EX, the Touring and a sporty version, the Si for Honda. That’s pretty much it. The more options/packages, the bigger the headache for your manufacturing. Also, and the Marketing folks will agree, it’s “easier” to forecast how many Honda Civics you will sell as a whole. When you get to forecasting how many white with pink poke a dots Civics with a sun roof, AM/FM sound system, etc., etc., then your unit forecast is way off. This leads to Honda zone folks trying to push cars onto dealers that don’t want the poke a dot version by saying something like: I’ll give you 2 hot CRVs if you’ll take 2 poke a dot Civics…” and then that leads dealers to negotiate amongst themselves to get rid of the poke a dot models that don’t sell in their own local market to another dealer in each for “better” models… and, in the end, to discounts to get rid of the poke a dot models…
I have a limited AWD, that’s the only trim I considered. I figure if I’m paying too much for a car to begin with, I may as well get all the bells and whistles since I plan to keep this car for 8 to 10 years. All of the things that you wish you had from the limited trim are worth it, I would say. I do enjoy the roof and my five children also enjoy the roof. I myself am in a wheelchair so at times I do actually use the remote park assist, if I’m working or doing something in the garage, I use it to pull in, so I don’t have to jump out of my chair pull the wheels off throw it in the car pull the car forward 10 feet put my wheelchair back together transfer back to my wheelchair. Those things don’t take much time and I’ve been doing them for 13 years but as I get older, it’s nice to reduce ware on the body when possible. I wish the car auto locked when you get out and leave the vehicle… other then that I have been overly impressed, the HDA has been great, On my road trip home from an out-of-state dealership a couple of times and I got 4 1/2 minutes without touching the wheel before it gave me the alarm, that was pretty cool.
Ventilated seats is a must for an EV car combined with heated options your good to go. Love my classic Ionic 28kwh Premium version. Yes, you can easily give the back seat Windows and back Windows privacy glass tinted.
They should offer a more granular approach to options. Why waste resources on options we don't want for options we do? It would also make the options more independent so they could be added post-production by dealer in the future for much more profit. It would also improve resale if customers know that ventilated seats or hud etc can be slotted into place of their secondhand car
I ended up with an SE in January because it’s what was available. I immediately regretted not getting a higher trim and waiting a bit. The cost of fixing my mistake was too high. I agree with your list of priorities and don’t cares. The one item you didn’t mention was the surround top down cameras. That would be my top wish. And I 100% agree that it would be easy would Hyundai to offer technology upgrades/options that I would pay for. Having a SE I’d be happy with heated and folding mirrors and heated seats 😊
Agreed. I did the same thing. Didn't wait for a white SEL; got a Black SE when it was available. Now I'm getting my SE wrapped with white vinyl at a cost of $3K.
> waiting a bit. Yeah, about that.... I decided I wanted the Limited... The HUD, the roof, the vehicle-to-load, the seats, etc etc.. All things I want. I test drove an SEL back in like.. April, and decided to 'do the wait...' It's now October. I'm still waiting. I put in an 'order' back in April. I'm prolly gonna cancel that order*. I have a crusty old Prius which needed a main battery replacement ( about $6k all told) and was just driving it around with a dead battery like an ICE car, waiting on the Ioniq. But I ended up just biting the bullet, getting the battery replacement and figure I'll keep it a couple more years and wait for the *ridiculous* "Market Adjustment Markup* number to go away. That and the rebates are no longer available for the Ioniq just killed the whole thing for me. So - maybe your regrets could be tempered with : Hey! You got a car... :P * It's not an order. It's a "I wish you had... plz let me know if you happen to have one fall off a truck in your lot." I hate the dealership "We sell what we got.. not what you want" model.
I agree regarding their trim packages, i got Santa Cruz when it came out, i was really disappointed that “Premium” package didn’t have leather seats! How is it premium? However I really liked the car, its unique appearance, the only thing that started bothering me is transmission, its not smooth at all, with huge delays between parking and reverse gears, sometimes its not changing gears properly in sport mode, anyway, few days ago I tried IONIQ5 and was blown away how smooth, responsive and powerful it is! Everything I hated about that transmission is gone on IONIQ 5, because obviously it doesn’t have one, this time I will definitely go for Limited Trim
I have the SE and love it. I don't regret not having what I never had before.

I've had a couple of occasions where somebody parked uncomfortably close to my left and I backed the car out of the spot using the key in order to get myself and ghe kids in. It used to make people stop and admire, but that was before the car became a common sight on Norwegian roads. Mostly I use it to get the car out of the garage so I can close and lock it while I'm waiting for others to get ready and get in. The kids love to sit inside while I'm remote controlling it
Corbin, I agree with pretty much all of your assessment. I love the HUD, it's my first car with it and I think I never want one without it in the future. I was fortunate to get an AWD Limited and share your take on the different aspects of the Limited trim. Not mentioned was the 360 camera views. I use the side views a lot when getting into my tight 1 car garage. I like the glass roof but really wish part of it tilted up for ventilation as I've always had cars with moon roofs and miss that. I agree there should be packages, I think a lot of people would go for them. Keep up the great videos.
Stone chips: exactly 1 day after I had received my Tesla Model 3, I had an appointment with my BodyShop and got a full front as well as door sills and back bumper PPF... worth the money so much...
We have the SE AWD and it's not really missing anything I need. Don't care about a sun/glass roof if they break can be expensive to fix, same for a power liftgate. I'm 6ft so closing the hatch is no issue although I can see if someone was short having a power one would be nice. HDA1 is fine for us, doesn't really matter if it can make lane changes it self. Also I would rather have the smaller wheels for a better ride and longer range, even the 19's on the SE seem to large the Ioniq 6 base model comes with 18's and has a longer range than the higher trim with larger wheels.
The SE is more vehicle than what’s needed as transportation. Hey, it’s not a luxury suite in the Orient Express. It’s not a Hilton room in a resort. The efficiency is phenomenal. The handling, exceptional. The interior is what meets comfort and pricing. Buying what you need vs buying what is desired can be surprisingly rewarding. SE long range battery model has all the safety features included. Live happy.❤❤❤❤❤Thanks
My brother said the same. As a renter, I will not know how owners feel. I test drove Ioniq 6 for 1,000 miles and I am torn between Ioniq 5 and 6. Thank you for the information.
WOW!! Why didn't you do a feature benefits comparison before you bought your car??Didn’t you get the IONIQ 5 for EV DRIVING??What about the rear wiper?? I hear that was a really big oversight!! Good luck trying to sell your car!!
Still waiting for my "5" in "Uniq" which is the highest option in Germany (is already in the country, just can't be delivered... 🙄), but about the sound system: I've driven an EV6 with the Meridian and actually didn't like it. Thus the advantage everyone is talking about is not that much imho.
I have an SE and I’m mad with Hyundai for not having an auto lift gate. I think car manufacturers should add everyday useful feature in the basic trim. I’d rather give up motorized driver seats for automatic lift gate. If you ask me, I use the trunk 100x vs the motorized seats. VERY DISAPPOINTED
I've got the 2019 IONIQ electric+ (plug-in hybrid) in the Ultimate trim, and it has no ventilated seats. They're on my wife's Santa Fe XL Ultimate and the top trim IONIQs in the UK, but in Canada it seems we got Penultimate trim misnamed as Ultimate. I really miss them!
Parking spots are big - on the east coast, in Texas… but OMG in California the parking spaces are so narrow. I find it very hard to park in parking lots everywhere around San Francisco. Tiny spaces. Huge cars. 😢
We leased a Tesla Model 3 Performance two years ago. We were hoping to buy out our lease but Tesla doesn’t allow buy outs. Dropped by Hyundai and Kia to checkout the I5 and Ev6. The dealer mark ups will unfortunately drive us away from these fine EV’s.
No point in getting a car with a panoramic sunroof that you can't open....its pointless.....you need an electric tilt and slide sunroof, that way you're getting the best of both worlds.....
Have SE trim. Agree the Pop-out handles should be standard. The demo car had them and i was surprised when they were not on my car !!!. Rear Windscreen wiper Biggest Pain (they really cheeped out on that why Hyundai) HUD never had one so don't miss it. Parking sensor is a bit sedative there is still a foot of space even when its a full tone. Rain sedative wipers are not that good I find I keep turning up one to just clean the screen. Apart from that i would never go back to Fuel cars
All of these complaints are about the fluff elements of the car. Ventilated seats, manual passenger seat etc. No complaints about how the car drives, or mileage. I bought one in April and i love it. Great AC, nice, but not great sound system( I don't believe cars need to be concert halls) . Seats are made of durable recycled materials that are cool even during summer heat. Awesome ride, and responsive steering. And best of all this car gets about 300 miles to the charge if you use AC, 330 without.
After Tesla, I'll never willingly choose a car without phone as a key. I agree, cars don't need glass roofs, I think they install them because it's overall cheaper to manufacture. Just like power windows; they are actually cheaper than manual, but come with the premium cost.
In my Home in Norway parking is not so easy. My car is now 19cm wider than the last. Having a Porsche next to me that is even wider, makes parking sometimes difficult. I have used the `drive by key` several times , and I love it .
Every time I go buy a car I try to start in a base model. And sitting in a base, I know I can't do it! I should start with a Limited. Save myself time. On another note: Hundreds of thousands of engineering dollars to add that 1 LED.
I despise the idea of an all-glass roof. My favorite roof was a 1980's Volkswagon that had a *metal* sunroof. Completely opaque, but could be tilted up in back for ventilation. It could open fully to let in a lot of air, but that had the disadvantage of letting light in, so it was mostly used at night.
I love the sound in my 2023 SEL. The only thing I hoped I would get is that camera on the mirrors when my signals are on. I wasn't aware at the time it would not be in the SEL but I found out later.
I think your biggest regret is not getting a Tesla! Fortunately you don’t even know what your missing because you have never had one yet. But this car is not a Tesla, that’s for sure. I agree don’t cheap out on options, it always affects the resale value anyways.
The internal VTL is sort of useless. I think it can only be activated in utility mode. I have not been able to use it while driving to charge my laptop, or even use my laptop or a small vacuum while charging.
I like the video, and agree with many of your comments. However actually finding unlimited to buy was my big challenge. Also I was able to get in just before the income tax rebate went away, so the SEL was kind of the only game in town. I’m glad I did it, but in the next year or two might think about moving up to a limited like you are.,
I use my EV6 remote smart park assist from the key fob to put the car back in the garage after washing it so I can dry it inside. It’s nice not to have to get in the car all wet and grimy.
I agree on this self parking deal... Who the hell wants to be that close to other cars, where damage can easily happen to your baby. It's a no way 4 me.
I went from CX-5 to the highest spec Ioniq 5 and therefore miss basically nothing while gaining many new cool and useful features. Your comments about what you miss and what you don’t really need resonate. I rented a basic model before buying and knew I would not be happy with it. I don’t use the seat ventilation that much because the composite leather is actually so good one doesn’t need ventilation even when extremely hot and humid; in your plastic seats that must be quite different. The sun roof is most impressive to rear passengers rather than those in the front. The one thing the CX-5 did much better is night lighting. In the city and on expressways it does not matter but for country driving it makes a big difference.
I hear you on the lights. I really do miss the adaptive lights from my Mazda. It’s funny, it seems many people that jumped on the Ioniq 5 were previous CX-5 owners.
I can say that I am glad I got the Limited as I would have appreciated the ability to pull my car out remotely on several occasions, especially a few weeks before I picked up my I5. I was driving a Town & Country and at work I usually park in a space at a rounded corner so that I have a lot of room on either side. Well, I was driving my wife's Leaf in the summer because she's a teacher and wasn't driving much, so might as well use the more affordable and environmentally friendly car for my daily commute. But the day we needed to go down to the dealer, I had her meet me at work and she parked the Town & Country with the intention of taking the Leaf home because she was going on a long trip that night. The spot she chose ended up getting parked in tightly by some idiot and when I went to leave I had to squeeze in on the passenger side and crawl over the center console. I'm 6 foot and over 300lbs. That was NOT fun. I've tested out the remote park in a couple places late at night and I definitely don't enjoy being inside the car as it is VERY aggressive on the braking. But with a daughter attending college in NYC and some tight parking on Boston and near family in PA, I can see this being useful. Would I have specifically spent extra just for that feature? No. But I'm happy to have it.
Interesting commentary! I have an SEL AWD. Honestly there was really nothing on your list that I miss at all and I agree with you on your items that you didn't care about. The one feature of the Limited I wish I had was the overhead camera view. My friend has that on hers and I love it. It's less useful and more just really cool. There are a couple of features that are nice but not really a big deal. Ventilated seats is really the only one I kind of thought I would love.
I wanted Limited trim for all the reasons you mentioned plus the memory seat settings. I was on wait list with 10 dealerships waiting for Limited trim for months. Got an opportunity to buy the GV60 and grabbed it! Had to think hard about spending the extra money, but it truly was worth it!
I officially made the first payment to reserve my ioniq 5 limited trim and I’m super excited! But I agree it’s be nice for better package options. I can live without the relaxation seats and roof but I’d really like the blind spot monitoring cameras and gif in the limited
Alot of problems Ionic 5 owners have now is replacement windshields and glass roofs of they get cracked by rocks on the road!! Very difficult to find!! And even if you get in a small traffic accident, replacements parts are hard to find!! Don't get me wrong, I love this car, but high mark-up at dealerships (Ca.) and first year model, makes me want to wait tell next year? And the new Tax Credit does hurt too!!!
@@colincallahan8001 I drive a 2000 Mercedes E320. I had a crack in my windshield it was replaced by a local shop in under 3 hours. I guess that’s the advantage to driving a low tech (now, not when I bought it in 1999) car. I’m saving up to buy an Ioniq 5.
Just one question by an IONIQ 5 owner in Germany (full facilities ;-) : What do you mean with “limited trim” ? A “limited trim” is less limited than what? I just don’t get the sense of that.. You don’t have flexible configurators for cars in the US ? (To configure the original German cars like Mercedes or BMW you need some days and most times have a number of questions before you finish. So I was glad I could configure the IONIQ 5 AWD 77 kW in some minutes with just 6 times or so selecting “check” and I got everything Hyundai offers, including trailer hitch. (ok, not really everything, I haven’t got the digital mirrors because I ordered too early, and I have the glass roof instead of the “old” (experimental) Photovoltaic roof, but I think, this is by far better).
So I just want to stress that anything you mention, including the entrance (ambiente) light, panoramic roof (but without opening possibility; but it´s nice), relax seats, etc., the IONIQ 5, just you didn’t order it (?). I agree, 20” wheels and the relax seats are not necessary, neither is the AWD. All is just for fun. The packaging here is like “If you spend $19000 more, you get quite everything we offer, if not, you can’t get a lot of features (separately”). But every car manufacturer sets it like this, if you want some popular features, you are obliged to choose them in packages with some expensive less popular ones. Hyundai is not special for this, in fact the “luxury package” (Techniq+Uniq) are relatively cheap compared to the mentioned ones.
What I really wanted when I was shopping for the I5 was a Limited single motor. At the time there were none in the U.S., so I bought the AWD. I'm quite used to relatively underpowered vehicles (minivans) and while the neck snapping acceleration can be useful (and fun when flooring it with unsuspecting passengers), I don't really need it. I'd rather NOT have the premium sound system for two reasons: First, I'm not an audiophile and most often I'm listening to a baseball game, NPR, or a local oldies station. Second, the sub-woofer takes up almost all of the room under the rear shelf, and I could use the room when our foursome takes the car to the golf course. I used the V2L to make breakfast when we had a power outage. Pretty cool. the wife was impressed. I don't see me using a lot of features of the vehicle, but it's nice to know they're there if the need arises. I have used the ventilated seats a few times, and the HUD is great. I tried the relaxation mode while updating the map mode, but the leg rest didn't rise up enough to rest my calves on. The surround cameras are useful.
Same here. I am interested in the limited trim, but here in the LA area it looks like all limited trim cars are AWD, which I personally don’t really need.
Dude the key on your phone is like the best option. Your excuses are pathetic. Sorry to be so harsh but listen to you trying to make sense of you being cheap. You should have spent the extra $6k! Your talking $59 a month!!
The parking assist actually works really well for me and my tiny garage in the USA. Ev6 wind. I use it all the time so I don't have to squeeze my way out of my garage
So Corbib, question. Knowing what you know now, would you go for a limited I5, a Genesis GV60 Advance ( Performance is too pricey) or still go with the trim you have.
Hmmmm I would probably go for a GV60 Advanced. For not much more you get a much more equipped vehicle. In general I prefer the look of the Ioniq 5, but I would really like to have the nicer sound system and physical buttons for things like heated/ventilated seats that the GV60 has.
@@TheIoniqGuy yeah. I love the exterior look of the HI5 and mostly everything internally too, including the space and storage, yet the GV60 with its luxury interior and dedicated servicing is second to none. It's just a bit more expensive and that front look with that big grill bothers me. Now if the blue interior of the performance trim was available on the Advance, I would get it, but can't justify the price for a seat color, massage function.
Hey Ionic Guy, here in the UK I have the Premium Trim, Cyber Grey. The BIGGEST thing which you have not mentioned is the terrible very wide turning circle. It makes doing certain maneuvers more work.
You know I did notice it being a little bigger than my CX-5 but not so much that I ever think it’s annoying. I will say I test drive a RWD ID.4 and that thing turned on a dime and I could see that being very useful, especially in closer quarters
@@TheIoniqGuy Our previous car was a SKODA KODIAQ or VW TIGUAN ALLSPACE and that turned so much tighter, thi is a pain in this respect. Wishing you well. Another point colour choices rather boring also.
