I'm a teacher. The field has become a giant bureaucracy with people failing upward into positions of leadership. The main problem with that is, these aren't inconsequential roles like 'consultant', these are school principals who in some cases are less mature than the students. It's not an isolated issue, ask almost any teacher you know and they'll have horror stories of working for an immature and inept shithead who got his job thanks campaigning for a board member. Schools will spend $120K+ a year to hire a 'consultant' if the Superintendent is too incompetent to do his job, they'll hire somebody extra and spend MORE tax dollars instead of just firing the incompetent person. In 2021 I had a colleague who said the n-word in front of our students while 'rapping' to try to look cool (guy was a putz and wasn't even certified by the state, yet they hired him to teach...how precious.) and the neighbor down the hall would throw tantrums (35+ year old woman w/ kids, mind you) and slam doors when something didn't go her way during a meeting. I quit public education and (I still teach, just in the private sector) because what JD Vance and Trump have been saying is spot on, the biggest problem is that the incompetent/abusive people are never fired. They're oftentimes promoted, because it's easier to get rid of them via promotion than termination...and that has to end IMMEDIATELY.
