Excellent - more than a cover, felt like I was watching, listening to John. You captured very well the climactic ending of the song. Man, Lennon was a master of his craft such a loss. This should have a million views!
What a life we had in NOLA East and the Plaza. A snapshot in time. I doubt there's a place in NOLA that has changed so drastically and in such a bad way as NOLA East has. I couldn't imagine when I heard this song over the PA in Gryder's Shoes that the PLAZA would one day be deserted and razed to the ground and an entire community gone to the wind. We can't even drive by with the kids and say something like, "right there, in the middle of that mall, on the ice skating rink, after me and your mom saw Star Wars..." Thanks for that memory of Spencers. Great song and a great performance as always. What a time warp.
Hey Kenny....yeah man, great times at The Plaza....spent some quality days there with my first girl friend and many of the friends I still hang with today no less...Salad days for sure...thanks for dropping in here man! This song had a sweet melancholy even when it first came out....round the xmas shopping time of that year....I think it was released in October of 1980....I remember being so excited that John had something new out....Wow
@@ThisMichaelBrown Yeah it was great! Did you know that back in 2001, I met Roger Hodgson at a Ringo Starr and All Starr Band concert in Vegas. It was before the show, and he came out to talk to fans. I got his autograph on the ticket, and then at the last song, I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends, afterward, he handed down a guitar pick to me.
Hey Thanks Randy! These productions are so much fun....a small tribute to the greats who provided so much joy in my life....Thanks again for the kind words!
Wow 😮 just wow!! This has to be the best cover version I’ve ever heard 🥰🥰this is brilliant gives me goosebumps just like the original song thank you so much for posting ❤️❤️❤️
That was fantastic, always loved this track, when I first heard it, I was 9 years old, and just liked it, Fast forward I have been playing guitar for about 6 years and my ear wasn’t really good and I couldn’t figure this one out, no internet etc, now full 40 years of playing music, my ears are on, this song is fantastic, key change DOWN, a full step, and it’s the classic 1/6-/2-/5 progression..and your cover is fantastic as well huge 👍🏻!
Dang Michael B, you got me hankering for some ice skating and an Orange Julius. Fantastic job brother. The quality is fantastic all around and the fact that you’re cranking these out in 4 or 5 days is unbelievable. Awesome job!
THE PGLYNN review....gonna put you on the pay roll man.....haaaa.....always appreciated Brother, just like when I bummed quarters from you at Space Port ;) Orange Julius....awesome, sounds like a good PROG rock band....Thanks Bro.....these are mostly like ZEN gardening for me....Fun stuff
pglynn, you beat me to it. i was thinking Ponchartrain Beach, but i could totally do an Orange Julius with a California dog listening to this and playing some Space Invaders.
Along with Moving Out (Michael Brown's Song), one of my favorites. Great rendition with the harmonies. Opening prelude is a bit harsh/tight, but then again, that's why Lennon is Lennon.
Honored Jackie....a lifelong hero! I wrote a song for John few years back, hope you enjoy....Cued up at this link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pkle9on3sfU.html
Sensacional! Show!
Beautifully done my friend. Even listening to a cover makes you wanna cry yknow? Only a cover as good as yours can illicit that. Lennon would be proud, brother.
I cannot express how amazing this is. I LOVE IT SO MUCH I literally love it to bits. thank you for this blessing michael. I love the shirt too and the whole outfit :))
Damn, I didn't expect it to be that good. Very faithful to the vocal melody which is really what makes this song. It's easy to just screw up a great song like most do and then just use the excuse that it's your own style. Extemely well done here.
Thanks echt....no need to try and improve on what John did with this song....my role was to pay tribute and recreate the emotion best I could...I am a huge fan of the Lennon Ethos. 🙏 My back ups are a bit more Beatle-ish than the Double Fantasy backups...but that again is just adding more Lennon to the mix ;)
A classic masterful Lennon tune....he used lots of hard-earned craftsmanship in this one. I always say John could write a better song on a kazoo than guys with a 100 music degrees. He had the gift and exercised it very early in life! He was pretty fearless too....John and Paul were super brave about creating in the moment! They set the ceiling....
wow, this is great. this song came on my ipod today and i forgot how good it was. i need to find a couple guys like you and your drummer to jam out with lol. liked/subbed
Yes ! I was really amazed listening to this cover. Indeed it is NOT one of many covers because the performer not only sang the EXACT copy of the original song but, as we , ethnic Russians, say , he managed to transmit through TIME SINCE 1980, the "soul" of John Lennon's composition. Which makes it differen from so many other COVERS !
@@ThisMichaelBrown Thank you, Michael ! The point is that during Covid restrictions, being at home at virtual " home arrest" (((( I developed an interest to th Beatles COVER versions various performers and I wrote some publications on the subject which is unduly ignored ( in my view) Some of them are for hundreds of my INDIAN friends on FACEBOOK , who speak English, like me - a former diplomat in India ... And India is a very POPULATED country with many potential SUBSCRIBERS and viewers ( Smile) If you do not mind I want to offer to your attention my FIRST publication on the Beatles cover band from Brazilian CELLAR during Covid 2020. ))))) That is a primitive Russian on-line platform but I managed to upload there some cover versions not fearing "cruel RU-vid authors rights policy" ( Smile ) Here is on the Brazilians - an article but one can find there " I got a feeling" version on my not developed russian channel ))))
Found your channel by accident, really enjoyed that. I'm a Lennon fan myself, I have a huge poster that hangs over my piano for inspiration. Cheers from NY
Hey The Breaks! Man, I can't get enough of The Beatles....here's one I did with my Brother covering the Lennon part: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9ojzhdiDpYE.html. Also saw a great documentary called Lennon NYC...a must see if you haven't seen yet....Bout his time in NY
@@ThisMichaelBrown Best band ever man. You really nailed the harmonies on In My Life, and the George harmonies are usually the trickiest. I've seen a few Lennon docs but never heard of that one, I'll check it out for sure. I'm gonna check out more of your vids in my spare time, they're really good. You even kind of look like John a bit lol
@@thebreaksinc Thanks The Breaks...Glad you are enjoying the vids! They are the Mozart and Bach of our times....they will always be relevant! Ha....on the look....just been lazy about getting a haircut...ha
Hey Gabriel! I've considered doing a "how to" series...I think it would be fun....both the audio and the video side....spending most of my current time writing new tunes....so much fun and so many projects :) but, thanks for the suggestion, may get around to that idea! And thanks for listening! :)
Great Cover! I love the voice and the animals in the background are the cutest thing ever. Did you intentionally make yourself look like John? And what is the adlib on 3:59?
Hey Thanks Kim! Hee....no I think I just drift towards the Lennon energy so much my hair starts imitating him ;) the adlib is kind of a Charlie Brown teacher thing...I have no idea what that is saying in the song....hee.....Thanks for the kind words and close listen :)
Wow thanks Ocho....really appreciate that....my drummer sends me the files from California and I mix them in Louisiana....the home studio tech has come a far way....hard to believe this song is 40 years old. Pretty simple Glyn Johns set up for drum mics....nothing fancy. Audio engineering is a blast....as much fun as performing. Appreciate the kind words...
