An explosive eruption of Sakurajima volcano occurred in Japan on Monday.
The eruption occurred in the crater of the Minamidake summit at 16:46 local time.
The height of the ash and gas plume reached 4,400 meters.
Large volcanic boulders were scattered up to 1,700 meters from the crater.
Air vibrations were also observed accompanying the explosion.
Local residents shared footage of the natural phenomenon on social media.
Ash was carried southeast from the crater towards the city of Kanoya.
This is the 25th explosive eruption of Sakurajima this year.
Sakurajima remains under Level 3 entry restrictions for eruption.
