I was on a first name basis at urgent care because I would just get hurt alot. Stiches, staples, broken finger, huge splinter stuck way in there, chest infection, ear infection, eye infection. I guess I'm lucky my issue were tangible so I didn't get labels as a time waster.

That's actually really horrible. Some doctor flagged my friend with chronic pain as opiod seeking, when she was literally asking to NOT be put on opiods, and instead *anything* else, because last time took opiods for her *chronic* pain, she didnt like how they made her feel. Apparently that doctor took it as an admission of opiod addiction or something... Now shes having trouble being believed that shes in pain at all, even when she says at the beginning she doesnt want painkillers at all, because she just wants to get treatment and be taken seriously.

This! I don't want opioids because they don't actually seem to help the pain, it just makes the room spin and I'm too nauseous to do anything but grip the bed. It's crazy how they start treating me like an addict right then. What because you guys made me take it once years ago and I hated it? You can drug test me while we're here if you think I'm lying 😅

@@mom.left.me.at.michaels9951 I'm so sorry that's happened to you :( I can't understand the reasoning in their heads. It's like they're always looking for the easy way out of treating people whose problems aren't cut and dry. And in this instance the easy way out is insulting and accusing the patient of addiction and lying.

I learned rather quickly that asking for lower strength pain killers, that have been around for decades, that I know I don't have problems with vs new designer ones Ive already had a really bad experience with (even tho they told me it wouldn't) is a sign I'm a drug seeker. Even just saying can you give me what all my others doc gave me and not some expensive experimental crap the pharmacuetical companies are pushing, is A SIGN. So... thats good to know.

I was branded an A&E "frequent flyer" "time waster" "healthy anxious type" turned out covid caused me to have a cerebral stroke. Doctors refused to run tests other than basic blood work, GP prescribed anti depressants and anti anxiety meds, leaving the stroke for 12 months by the time l was seen by the stroke doctor he said it wasnt worth bothering with now 😂

I try to limit my ER visits to one a year at least. I would * love * to not go to the ER ever again, or at the very least have a year off.

I always feel bad because the last few years Ive been going frequently for heart/chest pain ;-; unfortunately other than the irregular heartbeat there is nothing they find but being on the floor crying from pain always makes me question if Im about to die @-@ I feel bad wasting their time when they cant find why it hurts so much

I became a "frequent flyer" in the psych ward because I lost my job and couldn't afford to see a psychiatrist outpatient, or my meds. Thankfully after getting on disability I got Medicare and now I'm on meds that let me live a semi-normal life 😅

Always do your routine screening, don’t let your guard down. There’s a chance they come in for real complaint and you don’t want to miss it.

And exactly how is a social worker going to help us with chronic pain? 😢 some of us are frequent flyers for a reason.

Way back when I was a tech in the ER, there was a guy that would come in and say he couldn't poo and hadn't in a week or so. The doc would order an enema and the patient would insist on a FEMALE nurse doing it. After him being argumentative about me giving it to him (I'm a guy), we decided to give other hospitals in the area a call. We found out that this guy had been going to all the local hospitals getting this done. I'm guessing he was getting off on it. We gave the guy an enema kit and told him to go home and then put him on the 'no fly list'.

Honestly, please just tell us that you want some food and a place to rest for a bit. Please just tell us that it's too cold outside and you just want a blanket from our blanket warmer. I'll get you bus passes, new pants, or even a dose of your (non-narcotic) meds if you ran out and feel like taking them today. But don't waste all of our time and resources for the thousandth time, saying that you're coming into the ER because you're, "gonna run into traffic." Not only are you making us REALLY not wanna help you, it leaves a whole bunch of jaded ER staff that don't trust when someone is seriously in a mental health crisis.

I’ve been extremely unlucky with my health and I’ve had to go to A&E maybe once every 3-4 months last several years - and I thought this was frequent. People turning up on a weekly basis is just nuts, at least all my health concerns were genuinely serious
