Love your channel dude, you have this awesome laid-back instructional style but packed with information. This makes it so great to watch and 10x easier to keep focus on every detail...so super job and keep up the great work :)
I used to believe you needed to bridge as high as possible with a “normal” closed bridge for the 10 ball break. But the more I practice it (and practice it a sh*t ton), the more I realize it’s more about driving the cue into the slate and getting good timing on the stroke. You don’t need a hugely elevated bridge (though you do need some elevation, yes). Timing is particularly difficult cause so many folks including myself like to implement extra mechanics for added power, and get that cueball popping past the side pockets so you don’t scratch. I think it’s very easy, with the extra power and follow through to hit the cueball too early in their stroke timing. With extra mechanics, the stroke tends to get faster towards the backend even though the cueball is closer towards the front end of the final stroke delivery length. Managing how to quickly accelerate vs slowly accelerate like a normal stroke is the key difference. Man I could talk about the 10 ball break forever lol.
Great subject matter! I believe the bridge is key but as Nate mentions below, timing is crucial as well. I found bridging slightly closer to the cue ball with hand on the table and shortening the grip for better follow through after contact transfers my power great, while maintaining the proper timing. Thanks for another great video!!
Good video. I've mostly played 9 ball the last 20 years, and now I've been playing a lot more variety of games, so really trying to dial in my 8 and 10 ball breaks.
I don’t know how widespread this is, but where I am in Norway some tournaments don’t allow breaking from the middle third of the kitchen. Only left or right third of the table.
A good Break Cue is Important, no doubt about that. But, no Pool Cue, ever taught anyone how to play Pool. You have to learn how, so a good Pool Cue will be a Plus, not a Minus. Put that in your Pipe & Smoke it. Now that you have the truth, the next thing is what to do. I'd suggest studying the Break Shot, so you 'll understand, what does what.! What a Concept.! Well, that's what the Pros do... Here's what we know, , a good Break Shot will get you closer to the Winner's Circle, than a Bad Break Shot will.. That's a given. Good Luck to all...
