The entire Phase IV of the MCU has been like what's Achara's been saying about this movie: "I didn't hate it, I didn't love it, it was more in the middle for me." Well, except She Hulk, that was a shitshow.
I felt the exact same way Jaby felt about Kang. It felt a bit...Kangless. I don't know. I was expecting a villain that was going to instill the ever loving fear and panic into me, someone that made me go "Ohhhhh shit shit shit, this guy is really really bad news. Fuck. How the hell are they gonna stop him". Yeah, I didn't get that here. I wanted to feel a sense of urgency that our heroes desperately need to get the fuck outta this place, but I didn't. But folks like Jeremy Jahns seemed to really like his performance. I just didn't get much out of it really.
@@jakegittes1864 Nowadays people are wanting marvel to do r rated for their movies like it’s not sometimes about making it a very violent movie for some movies in the MCU
@@carlxd467 I totally agree. I’m a big MCU fan. My point wasn’t that all or a lot of the movies are bad. My point was that *when* they are bad, nobody admits it. They try talking around it by saying everything they can except “yeah honestly it just wasn’t good.” It’s like they’re afraid to say an MCU movie is bad.
When are we gonna get the Cinepals / Reel Rejects crossover event so the two lead commentators can stand side by side and we can see how similar they look & sound? 😉 Or maybe it's just me 🤔
I feel like marvel fans were expecting this Kang to be THE KANG, which doesn't exist. This is one of many. I'm not sure how the next movies will İntegrate different Kangs into their plots, but I think we should first understand the nature of Kang then form our conclusions.
I feel like one of the main reasons why the movie underwhelms a bit is not necessarily because of what is in there, but more like what it could have been. It suffers a bit from the same problem than Multiverse of Madness : The trailers teased a gigantic multiverse, unknown, mysterious, dangerous, and it feels like we're gonna see a millions of them ... and in the movie, we got 2 ! And a snippet of 2 more. MoM suffered directly from the comparison with Everything Everywhere All at Once, that came out just a couple of months prior, which dove RIGHT IN the craziness of the multiverse, and did it infinitely better than Mom with a fraction of the budget. Quantumania suffers from a similar problem : it's coming right on the heels of Avatar the Way of Water, yet another epic sci-fi movie that happens in a gigantic unknown world with local inhabitants suffering under the conquest of a seemingly unstoppable ruler, except, in one, we spend A LOT of time with the local populace and fauna and environment so that we can really connect with them, and care about their life, culture, and well, breath in the whole environment, while the other (and here is where I completely agree with Jaby), the movie feels rushed. It feels more like a quick checklist, like quick quick quick, we get that done, done, done, next. And in the end, the Quantum Realm, for all the fantastic work that has been done to design it (it truly is a marvel to watch), it feels a bit empty, and we just don't spend enough time in it and its inhabitants to care. It kinda suffers a bit from the Tron Legacy effect : Super dope visual world, but ultimately feeling empty. Like a great looking massive burger with a lot of sesame and bezazz on it ! It looks and tastes and smells so good... but ultimately, once everything has been gulped down (and boy was it delicious), you're sadly reminded it's still just fast food, quickly digested. Also, for a movie that was hyped to be the kickstart of Phase 5 and the introduction of the new Archvillain of this new phase, Kang (supremely announced by Loki season 1's finale), touted as this formidable foe that wrecked havoc to countless timelines (that's not a spoiler, btw, Janet says it in the trailer), and we're supposed to see how dangerous he is when he's bragging about having killed so many Avengers he doesn't even remember who is who anymore... but at no moment in the movie, although he's supposed to be at near full power, we don't quite get to see what the big deal was. We only hear about his power, but the movie almost refuses to show us just how powerful he is ! And when the movie approaches its climax, we're struggling with a massive frustrating gnawing thought of "please ! Show, don't tell !" It kinda feels like the writer of this movie didn't watch Loki beforehand (a little bit like how the writer of Multiverse of Madness, who also wrote Loki season 1, didn't bother to watch Wandavision, leading to a big tonal and character disconnect between the 2, while MoM was supposed to be the direct sequel of Wandavision). So yeah, ultimately, not a bad movie at all, just overhyped by both the trailers, the announcements of Kevin Feige, and the piled up weight of the MCU's tower of interconnected stories that are starting to really stretch thin at the seams.
Seems like another enjoyable setup movie. However, I will skip this one and wait for GoTG3. The trailers for Quantumania didn't really move the needle for me.
I follow some people on social media who design characters for Marvel films, and I think that the people in charge of the film ask these people who design characters, and tell them what type of design they want for a character. And the artist makes one or more designs and they show them (whoever asked them to do it). I have seen different designs for a character, like Thanos, Steppenwolf (Justice League), etc. And other lesser known, faceless characters in these films. They're pretty cool.
If you watched "Earth Mightiest Heroes" you should also prefer the whole Ultron arc there, and of course hate how they handled Hank Pym in the MCU, since he was the one who originally built Ultron and not Stark. And also he was "The First Avenger".
I mean I understand but I won't hate on the mcu for doing that switch simply because of how things happened with the timing and planning for why Hank Pym didn't. Especially knowing on the reason why Hank and Janet wasn't in thr first Avengers movie when we know they WERE originally planned to as well
The only argument here is that the animated universe and comic universe and mcu universe all are different universe. So have different origin. Like the genderswap of some characters like taskmaster,in movies she is a mind controled girl who uses tech to copy others moveset. In comics he is a straight up assassin who can copy and analysis any moves without any tech.
Definitely should check out Earth's mightiest heroes, I love that cartoon series. When it comes to animated, I prefer DC movies and shows way over Marvel, and it's the exact opposite for the actual movies, but that show was really entertaining.
So you let these 🤡 turn you away, instead of forming your own opinion? This is why the MCU is losing… folks can’t think for themselves anymore and must rely on other people’s opinions 😂😂😂😂 weak shit
@@BlueSkullX Literally the point of reviews are to have an idea of the quality of the movie. And in term of Marvel Jaby's and my opinion are 95% similar. Except when he says he didn’t love it, it turns out to be a garbage (for me). And that comment was just me speculating. That's what we all do when premium reviews comes out. It's not a crime. Also I hope I am wrong and the movie is Awesome. Nobody would be more happy than me. I am a movie lover. I live and breath these things.
@@fahimchoudhury5826 Literally the point of a reviews is to tell you what they thought of the movie and what they would rate it. A review doesn't dictate what you should and shouldn't watch. If that was the unspoken rule then there would be a lot of movies I wouldn't watch just because someone else didn't enjoy it.
Ironically , few people in comment section not understanding that they are just sharing their views and opinions just like they do. I have been following this channel for quite a long time and one thing I can say to new subscribers that Jaby is always been honest in his reviews.. he just tell us what he actually feel during those 2 or 3 hours of film, what he actually liked and didn't like.. that's all. You don't have to agree with him , but just because he didn't say what you like to hear and then replying bad and mean things is just idiotic imo.
I'm still excited to see this movie and I'll probably like it more than you all enjoyed it cause I'm here to enjoy these characters being brought to life. I'm 48 and I never thought I would see superheroes on screen at this level and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it until they start putting out total pieces of crap. Only then will I truly be disappointed. The only thing that disappointed me in She-Hulk was the portrayal of The Wrecking Crew. I was waiting so long to see them and I was majorly crushed at what they gave me, but I still press forward to enjoy the rest of the series. Checking this out the first chance I get to see for myself how it hits for me. Really enjoyed you review of the movie 👍👍✌ out.
Just watched it and I really liked it. You have to wonder is the world ready for Kang? My opinion I don't think so because the story is difficult for the common critic. If you like science fiction this is a gem. Kang the Conquerer's story is really well explained here. Would you free him if the world depended on it?
Aww woof.. But I knew I was more excited about Guardians for a reason…. Sounds like this one underperforms… but I do wanna watch it to see how that happens
Mixed to negative reviews be damned, mixed to negative RT score be damned, I'm still excited to see this movie regardless. I enjoyed all of Phase 4 despite the polarizing talk (including Thor: Love and Thunder, Multiverse of Madness, She-Hulk). In my personal opinion, I will probably enjoy this movie more than a lot of people, and that's fine with me.
The thing with Marvel's this phase is that I'm not getting connected with the main character. The only characters i felt connected with was Moon Knight, Wanda & Loki. Like I was rooting for them and felt bad for them. Also those characters had good moments which connected them with me. But all other movies and shows in this phase is just not connecting with me. Like i don't feel that the main character is in any sort of danger. Like watching the movie or show I see like I know the main character will overcome this. I'm not scared of getting the main character beaten up or losing. But with Loki, Wanda & Moon Knight they had such moments of loss. I love Antman & Paul Rudd but he was given so little to work upon. Like the funny moments felt funny coz of his performance and not coz of the writing. That's why this phase only looks like a setup for the big Avengers movie.
“We disagreed on that one movie, now I can never believe anything you say.” Really, dude? Isn’t possible I managed to find some fun in a film that you couldn’t?
Really sad that the MCU feels phoned in and rushed lately. The CGI has been questionable, the stories have been uninteresting and not fully thought out, and they have been valuing quantity and spectacle over quality and story. All of that kind of leads to this feeling for MCU fans that everything is just OK as opposed to GREAT. They spend too much time thinking ahead instead of making the right now great.
There’s actually a reason for this. At the end of 2019, Bob Iger stepped down as CEO of Disney, and Bob Chapek took over. Chapek then proceeded to take much of the creative freedom away from all their studios (including Marvel). And it does show a bit. By the time Iger came back, this film was FAR into production, so they couldn’t change anything. But Iger just made the announcement a few days ago that the creatives are now being given back full control, so the people making the projects will get to decide where it all goes. And there will also be accountability moving forward, and no pointing fingers in terms of why certain projects didn’t turn out well. It may be too late for Quantumania, but not for future projects.
@@evanmorris6057 Yep. The shitty lead of Iger bundled up with the effects of the pandemic really made productions for the MCU rushed and turned over. So many director changes etc. I'm hoping with the upcoming films that are not produced in the pandemic and under Iger that the movies return back to the status that they were before.
@@k3n12ock thats why i always watch First Day First Show/premiere Show of Movies to avoid these kind of reviews, spoilers, perspectives etc FYI : I didn't watched the above video/review i am commenting here.... based on the Video title
Jaby always puts too high expectations on certain things he sees. What you have to think about going in is that the Kang we see in Ant Man is not the same as the final Kang the avengers or whatever will face. Also in terms of the movie themselves, I think some credit has to be given to the pandemic and Chapek for the rushed productions and such. Hopefully Iger and post pandemic movies turn things around. But in terms of Kang as a character, Jaby was clearly expecting a Thanos phase 3 level character way too early.
Honestly I think we’ve all been spoiled with marvel. I don’t think there’s anything marvel can do anything to really wow us. We’ve seen the best of the best. We’ve ridden that ride for a long time. I think what’s hurting marvel the most is the anticipation. No one is satisfied anymore. Maybe they need to take a long break. Fans just don’t care and aren’t as impressed. I think people by nature just turn sour on something if it doesn’t make the happy like it use too:
There is an option that you guys didn’t mention…which is to skip it and wait to see it on the Disney channel. I’m not going to drop big bucks to see a movie that apparently none of you really liked. Marvel has disappointed me too many times to just show up for each one. Those days are long gone.
@@A1stardan nahhh let’s just over hype ourselves up with numerous cameos, Easter eggs, and speculations and expectations then when the movie comes out and it’s a contained movie, like MoM, let’s cry like bitches on social media because it didn’t fulfill our flawed expectations…. Yeah let’s do this instead 😒
I mean MOST of it everything was heading towards IW and Endgame but let's be honest it was clear from the getgo when Phase 3 was announced they weren't ending on IW and Endgame (which wasn't even going to be called IW) not just from the stuff and hints Kevin was dropping on the stuff they were setting up after that phase but just from the movies in it themselves that made it clear IW and Endgame wasn't the epilogue to the mcu. Both post credits scenes and other set up plot points made it clear and seeing how IW and Endgame didn't wrap up those threads even moreso. This isn't mean defending what came after but just saying it's clear they had a plan for post Avengers 3 and 4 and just decided as soon as Endgame was released these movies were successful let's keep going lol
Look guys these people are marvel Shills. When a shill has a problem with something when they are already, ready to give it a good review and they can't... speaks volume
It's written in the stars 🤩 that this Marvel supremacy is going to end 1 day. Story and character are very important for a film to shine. Best example of recent times is RRR as it shines even in the western part of the world. Please, learn something from James Cameron. People call his stories to be simple than why he always break box office records bcoz he knows how to make a movie. Not like Marvel that they are just setting up for the future and doing cameos or for the lack of a better word - fans servicing. The most basic rule says do what you want to do, not what the audience wants or says to what to do.
I for one enjoyed it but that's part for the course. Movies the you and your brother disliked I actually loved. Reactors reviews are getting into that rotten tomatoes range where reactors have this assumptions about a storyline when their guesses doesn't happen then they downgrade it. This movie is a setup, an appetizer for what's to come. But most feel like every movie should be a main course
@@aqeelraja4750 Because they're building him up to that character. They aren't going the same route with Thanos where they teased him and then we get shocked into how powerful he is. There's many Kangs they face, there was only one (or two including Endgame) that the Avengers faced.
@@mr.stuffdoer8483 except he didnt. The previous films established him as being a huge threat. The way he was involved behind the scenes meant he was a constant looming presence. Kang shows up in an ant-man movie + probs gets beat by him. Not a good look lol
Let's be honest... Antman has never had a great movie. Antman 1 was ok, Antman and the Wasp was trash and a lot of people expected Quantumania to be this huge spectacle just because Kang was there but even though he was the best thing in the movie that doesn't mean the movie would be Infinity War or even Winter Soldier level. 🤷 So it doesn't really surprise me. I think people got their expectations too high because of Kang.
It sounds like the problems stem from script problems, or editing choices. Marvel need to invest in better writers, or hire some script doctors, someone like the late, great Carrie Fisher.
Maybe if you didn’t have absolutely absurd and unrealistic expectations you would feel different. I loved phase 4 because I went into every project excited to be back in the universe with characters I love. I even really enjoyed love and Thunder which everyone seems to like to hate on. Is that movie flawed and I wish it did certain things differently? Sure but it was still a very fun and enjoyable comic book movie. Stop expecting infinity war/endgame for every movie. We’ll get that with Kang Dynasty/Secret Wars.

It’s interesting cause reel rejects like the middle and didn’t like the end. This is the problem everyone has their opinions. Marvel can’t make everyone super happy.
To be honest, after hearing all the reactors giving their reviews, I feel like this is just gonna be another Thor Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and just disappoint me again. I'm not going to spend money on a movie if I am going to be disappointed. I will definitely still watch it eventually, but most likely only through streaming. Wow! Jaby set expectations about Kang too high and then got disappointed. What a shocker. This is most likely not even the only Kang we will be seeing, might not be the same as the one in charge of the TVA. This version might not be the big bad everyone is going to face in the next movie. Clearly wasn’t paying attention to Loki when He Who Remains said that there are multiple of him, and eventually one of them will be back in charge of the whole thing. He didn’t say there’s one guy we should all be afraid of. He said “wait until you see my variants.”
Yeah people are still expecting a Thanos phase 3 level character when we're still in the earlier stages. The final Kang they face will not be the same Kang they see here. People keep setting up extremely high expectations for the characters they see.
@@FranciscoHOS exactly. Do people not remember Thanos’ first movie debut in Guardians of the Galaxy. All he did was sit in a chair and get backstabbed by Ronan!
FranciscoHOS Well to be fair, it might not be a case of the final Kang=ultimate/most dangerous. The Kang Prime will also be the one who gets the most character development and focus on their motivations. Whether that’s the Quantumania Kang, new TVA Kang or anything else. ONE of them will be THE main Kang, THE Kang Prime. Just a matter of when we see him. I imagine it’ll be before Kang Dynasty at least. Because if you just do a different variant LITERALLY every time, that’d get repetitive quickly. Finding one variant that works as the Kang Prime will be vital imo
@@rileyribble6733 Yeah there’s so many ways they can go with this, I’m eager to see what they do despite the recent projects being somewhat subpar compared to the Infinity Saga.
Why is it that when it comes to MCU movies, people who didn’t like them never straight up just say “yeah, honestly I thought it was bad, poorly written, etc”. It’s like everyone tiptoes around just admitting it’s bad.
The two MCU projects I felt were straight up bad was Dr Strange 2 and She Hulk. There have been other bad ones such as Iron Man 3 and Thor Dark World. Even Age of Ultron was bad when it came out but now everyone loves it. In my opinion, age of ultron was always good. Few movies have been good but not rewatchable. The thing is, there are always the good parts and you want to address that. Many people are saying the world building in Quantumania is great and the family theme is the main takeaway with Kang delivering though perhaps not in a way that people expect.
I'm gonna stick to the first Ant-man, from a time where he was the main character of his own franchise and the 3/4 of the MCU characters weren't strong independent women.
