Writer Nick Eliot (played by Cary Elwes) relocates to a new city to pursue a job at a magazine. He decides to rent a room in the house of Cliff (portrayed by Kurtwood Smith) and Liv Forrester (played by Gwynyth Walsh). Their 14-year-old daughter, Adrian (portrayed by Alicia Silverstone), immediately expresses her attraction to Nick. While Nick engages in a romantic relationship with photographer Amy Maddik (played by Jennifer Rubin) at work, he struggles to resist Adrian's advances. As Adrian's infatuation with Nick intensifies, she becomes enraged by his rejection and begins vandalizing his property and targeting his friends. The film was released on April 2, 1993, in the United States. It was directed by Alan Shapiro and distributed by Warner Bros. The production had a budget of $6 million and was edited by Ian Crafford. The musical score was composed by Graeme Revell.

Random story I met Alicia Silverstone when I was a server at a fine dining restaurant and she was incredibly kind. (Most customers didn’t even make eye contact coming in and she was sure to greet every host and staff member she saw) Maybe 15 mins later I was still having an internal monologue about it near the host stand and felt a tap on my shoulder and it was her. She said some words and I think asked me something but she was standing SUPER close to my face - like close enough I doubt anyone nearby could hear and my mind went blank. I said something back and I remember her smiling and thanking me and she seemed to be satisfied so I hope I made sense Mad embarrassing how star struck i was for the first time.

Saw this in the theatre back then. Still remember that ridiculous looking punch off the merry-go-round lol. This is the movie I still remember Cary Elwes and Alicia Silverstone for since it was the first time I actually recognized them as actors.

This came out when I was in middle school. I watched it every time it came on HBO. even after all these years, it’s creepy as hell. Nick was a real dumb dumb. He should’ve seen what was happening way sooner and made better decisions. No way a 20-something y/o will have anything in common someone that’s 14. There was no reason for him to ever hangout with her. He brought all that trouble o himself and acted like it caught him off guard. Dummy. Lol. Great reaction as always, Showdown. Thanks for this one, it was a blast from the past. IYKYK

The Crush and Poison Ivy must have put every suburban dad on notice back in the 90s lol. Looking at they teenage daughter's friend with a side eye, refusing to let her come inside the house after those movies came out.

Just a reminder to everyone that Alicia Silverstone was around 16-17 during this film's production, and Cary Ewles was around 30-31

So many great messages in this one (sarcasm...) ... and he ultimately solves his problem by punching a kid. On a merry go'round, no less. There was a slew of stalking movies and underage femme fatale movies throughout the '90s. Older guys versus younger women ... fight! For a real laugher, there's the Poison Ivy series (of course it's a series). Also look up the made-for-TV "I Can Make You Love Me", now known as "Stalking Laura". Based ona real life tragedy (stalking that lead to workplace shooting in Sunnyvale, CA), it has Richard Thomas (John Boy Walton) stalking Brooke Shields and eventually going full survivalist and mass shooter. In the rear view, it's one bizarre time capsule.

Messed up fact: Writer and director Alan Shapiro based the film on events from his own life. The girl on whom he based Adrian sued him for using her real name, Darian, for Alicia Silverstone's character. As a result, when the film was re-edited for TV, the character's name was changed from Darian to Adrian. When I originally saw the film it was 100% Darian. They picked Adrian for the edit so that when the name was spoken it would look legit, and not dubbed.

"Nick, ever do a virgin?" "What?" "I know you want to..." Fun Fact: Theatrical feature debut of Alicia Silverstone. She won two MTV awards for her performance in the film, for breakout performance and villain. Emancipation Proclamation Fact: Alicia Silverstone became an "emancipated minor" at age 15 during the shooting of the film meaning she was legally on her own and not a dependent of her parents. This way she could avoid child labor laws, which would have restricted how many hours she could work on the film. All of Alicia Silverstone's nude scenes were done by a body double because she was underage. Art Imitates Life Fact: Writer and director Alan Shapiro's inspiration behind the film was based on a real life experience. In Los Angeles, Shapiro became a lodger at a guest house following his departure from college; the house in question was owned by a married couple. Shapiro was trying to work on scripts for Hollywood but was constantly distracted by their teenage daughter, Darian, who had developed a crush on him. Shapiro wanted nothing to do with Darian and rejected a sexual relationship with her, since she was underage. One day, he came home from an errand, only to find the words "Alan Sucks Cock!" carved into his new car. When he spoke to Darian's parents about it, Darian denied vandalizing his car, and, worse still, Darian's parents sided with her, refusing to believe Shapiro. However, a school friend of Darian's came forward to Shapiro and privately told him that Darian did indeed do it, but Darian's parents still refused to believe their daughter had done anything wrong. Because of this, Shapiro moved out and he never saw Darian again. Years later, Shapiro's wife reminded him of Darian, and told him it would make a good story for a suspense thriller.

There's a lazy screenwriting tradition where it's easier to write a stupid protagonist than a smart antagonist. This is one of those films.

God I was obsessed with her as a teenager in the 90s. If you didn't notice, every time anyone says "Adrian" it's dubbed. The original name was Darian, which is the way I remember it. I guess this is based on a somewhat true story and the family sued.

adrian's parents are almost like a rich people family and they don't really care about what happens to nick or anybody else they would just ask the daughter adrian did she do those things to nick or other people and adrian would say no or why would i do that and then the parents would believe her.
