My son is 28 now, but when he was about 3, we were at Governors Square Mall in Tallahassee, where we lived. George Clinton is from Jefferson County or Madison County (2 rural counties near there). Anyway, he was at the mall on a random Saturday afternoon. My son Bryant, looked over and said in a loud voice, ‘Mommy, look at the brown man’s hair.’ Mr Clinton looked over and said ‘what it is Little Brother?’ Just a fun little memory..

When they put on the Parliments at the parties in the 70’s, you were on the dance floor at least 30 minutes. Drenched in sweat when you came off. Saw them 3 times, great shows! You brought props with you like flashlights. People came dressed like them. Great memories!

Parliament was banging, back in the day! When I was in high school, the cruisers used to blast 🚘 💥 this song! After school, they cruised the bridge “to see and be seen,” while showing off really smooth rides; Lowrider’s, High-Rider’s, VW Bugs, Classic Car’s or just driving their parent’s car to school that day. Everyone, who didn’t have a car had to walk over a big city bridge to get home to the Westside of town, all the cool 😎 kids lived on that side of the bridge. It was a perfect set-up, for the after school cruise. This song, (plus a few others) takes me back....in an instant! Whenever, I hear that intro: 🎶 da-da-da-de-dah-aaa 🎶 I’m sexy and 17 again, Lol 🙊. The way you turned the wheel when you pretended to be driving was “spot on” because that’s the way it was done. OMG, that tripped me out! Parliament, was always ahead of their time! Flashlight was in Boyz in da Hood, Friday, and Roll Bounce (a movie with bow wow and nick cannon). It's also played at EVERY BLACK party (birthday, family reunion, graduation, wedding reception, after Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, going skating, a 70s party, and- of course- baby showers.

From the opening confusing taps on the synth keyboard and the "ZING" you knew something was about to go down! I kid you not- I remember clearly when this song hit the airways, cars would pull over to side of the road and stop to avoid an accident, because the occupants inside were dancing so hard. It was unlike anything heard over the airways at that time. Props to George Clinton William "Bootsie" Collins Bernie Worrell and I believe Gary Shider.

Welcome to the Funk Baby!!!!! The second concert I ever went to was The Uncle Jam Wants You To Funk With Him. Everybody had on army gear in the audience and everybody was getting high. My Mom took me and I caught a contact whilst in attendance. I was not even a preteen yet. Had a blast!! My grandmother was furious with my Mother because she could tell I was buzzed when we got home. It was one of the only times I can remember my Grandmother use a curse word. It was just Hell but that was major for my Grandma Corine. Parliament funkadelic had great songs. You will love One Nation Under A Groove and Knee Deep so much! You will play those two songs for the rest of your life I promise you!

I remember being in the eighth grade in 1977/78 and hearing it for the first time when 4 girls did a dance routine to this song for the talent show. 20 years later I got married. A neighbor (a d.j.) knew that our wedding budget was tight and d.j.'d for free. He looked through my collection and was STOKED when he saw this album and wanted to play Flashlight at the wedding. I let him and as a thank you, I gave him the album. 💜🎶
