Bruichladdich 18 RE/Define bottled October 31,2023 @ 50% abv Primarily ex bourbon with small amount of Sauternes and Port barrels Barley: Scottish Mainland Islay Organic Vs Classic Laddie , Islay Barley 2011& 13 / justwhisky
As a Bruichladdich fan you won’t be disappointed but not wowed either…. Especially at that price but they are delivering everything us Enthusiasts ask for… no lipstick just well aged distillate driven mostly ex bourbon maturation. Cheers 🥃
It’s a solid offering but it’s not wowing me or offering much complexity IMO… $180… I don’t need a backup… if I had the opportunity to try before I buy… I would probably pass at that price. If someone asked me in a blind what I’d be willing to pay, I’d probably say closer to $100 range. Cheers🥃 After all that you’ll still probably buy it😅😇
@@justwhisky TBH I have to say Thank You. You really just saved me under $200. I was getting the itch to place the order then this longer/thoughtful message came thru to my feed. No more. I'll let other people get it. Thx again.
I saw the 18 the other day for $190. I'd love to get my taste buds on it, but it is simply beyond my price comfort zone. Thanks for the review. Cheers!
I have been super curious about this one and I admit my hand hovered over the buy button more than once but at the end the price deterred me from pulling the trigger. Sounds like everything I expect it would be but honestly you can't think beyond the price and the price does ruin or elevate the experience. Thanks John for the review and the comparisons, cheers!
Cheers for your review mate. You did a much better job than I did with the packaging. Imo needs time in the bottle to settle down, but after 3 weeks resting I have been reaching for it and it has been getting better and better. I will definitely re-review it in a month or two once it has had time to breathe. Cheers 🥃
Thanks 🙏… agree it will likely improve over time… however I did compare it to the Rockn’daal 2.1 (2023 Feis lle) 16 year and preferred it over the new 18. Cheers 🥃
That’s good to hear. Just picked up a bottle yesterday and the neck pour, with no water, left me pretty unimpressed. And I let it sit in the glass for a half hour before trying.
@@justwhiskyThanks. Gonna try it with water this evening. I’ll be patient with it - A few couple months ago I had a bad start with Laphroaig 10 Sherry Oak. I wasn’t “unimpressed”….I really flat out didn’t like it, but now it’s fantastic. LOL.
It seems, anything over 15 years of age is priced out of reach for many. Bunna 18, Highland Park 18, Arran 18, are all good examples. Great whiskies but too pricey. I wonder how the likes of Speyburn 18, Ancnoc 18 would stack up against these.
This Bruichladdich is everything we’ve been asking for… mostly exbourbon… with no lipstick and yet it’s still open to critique mainly due to price. The Speyburn 18 & AnCnoc 18 are not available in my area but are heavily sherry influenced which might tip the scales ? Cheers 🥃
