Thanks for your thoughts on this classic and long time favourite of mine. There are indeed no bad batches of 10CS although this one is a very good one IMHO. Interesting that you mention the (lack) of fruitiness. I agree. Fruitiness used to be much more prominent in Laphroaig years ago but they've obviously embraced full on peat these days. I still have a dusty bottle of Laphroaig 18 that was probably distilled in the mid 90s that demonstrates the change well. Even compared to the modern 16yo it is quite different. I shall pour you a glass if you're ever out here. Cheers John 🥃
Thanks again for your reassurance on my take… although I think I like b13 more than you 😳😅 Same invite goes to you Shane.. if you ever travel to Cape Cod you will be my guest. I do have a L18 tucked away as well as a 2017 (25). I’ve never had either before. Saving them both for you😇 I’ve had a couple of Lores that I quite enjoyed and have a couple backups. It would be so cool to see a reviewer do all of the Lore batches to date. I think 2016 was the beginning. Could never find that first release but heard it’s a banger loaded with older juice?? All the best Shane! Cheers 🥃
John, great review. I'm still waiting on the 10yr CS to hit my market, we only just received the Cairdeas last week. We still have Batch 15 on the shelves here. Also, Just Whisky and Kitties has a good ring to it, I have 2 Cats myself. Cheers!
Thanks for the review John! I have been excited to get a bottle of batch 16 after Shane’s review because he said it was a more briney 10cs and I especially like an extra briney Laphroaig. After watching your review maybe I’ll just search out some of the warehouse 1.
Laphroaig 10 year CS is now $100 before tax in my area. I'm done with it at that price. At $79 I'd buy every release. Thanks for the honest and thorough review.
Prices are starting to get absurd with almost everything these days but particularly luxury items. The newest Ardbeg Anamorphic NAS @ 48.2% is $220 MSRP!!! wtf The new Middleton Red Spot MSRP is $325!!!! Last year it was $130😳
@@justwhisky Hi again. I think with these crazy prices a symptom may be that Scotches will sit on shelves for years. E.g. I just got word from my local Total Wine. They've had bunches of Scotch and other world whiskeys linger on the shelves and they're clearing them out for 30%-40% off. Highland Park 15 year for $78; Caol Ila 12 year Montrose and Sons pick for $55 down fro $77 and M&H Apex Fortified wine cask down to $59 from $94. I guess if we can wait some stores will start discounting to clear out?
This is my first Laphroaig 10 and I got it for $73. I loved it so much that I went back to buy a back up bottle but my approved sale was refunded because I didn't buy it fast enough online. waited too long.
Hey John, good to hear you enjoyed batch 13. I just opened a bottle of batch 13 and have subsequent releases batch 14 and batch 15. I thought batch 16 would be next to look out for but the prices are getting out of hand.
Thanks 🙏 Actually saw them on the very beginning of their End of Road… February 2020…then Covid hit… I saw then twice in the 70’s and many times since. Probably not in the cards to catch them again. Cheers 🥃
Look at you!!!..one day SB12 next day Laph10 CS. Beautiful day in the neighborhood. It seems like my local shop just fot batch15 a few months ago and I've been joking the 16 is elusive like bigfoot. Being a rank amateur I'm simply enjoying 13 (with a backup) as the cupboard overflows. Someday I'll do a head to head to head... I really find that SB to a litlle hot at 54.1%. The nose is outrageous, and not hot at all, but my delicate tongue was burning, even with a bit of water. Truly, just whisky. The fun part of an expensive bottle that disappoints is that I know there's a phenomenal dram in there somewhere, just have to find it. Laph10 CS never disappoints, I'm hopeful it's going to stay under $90 by me. Cairdeas is $95-99
Glad to hear you’re enjoying L 13. A few short years ago I had my first SB12 CS and found it to be hot but now with my palette being constantly inundated with many cask strength/ high abv, my palette has become desensitized over time. I didn’t find the SB 12 batch 24 to be hot for my palette but yes I’m confident we’ll both find many enjoyable drams in time as the bottle opens up and blossoms. I don’t find myself chasing the Laphroaig 10 CS anymore mainly because I have a few past releases in the bunker and with new releases hovering near a hundo, it’s a hurdle for me… however I’ll likely continue to get a Cairdeas each year…depending…on price and feedback. Cheers 🥃
@@justwhisky I am really thinking that I prefer the Ardnamurchin at $85 and 57.8% best of all. I forgot if you were enjoying the KK heavily peated? I love it but $110 is a bit much to just stash them all.
@@jackthepickledhound my Ardnamurchan 02/22 CS has one dram left. Heard the 09/22 is even better and as you noted a relative good value. I didn’t get along well at all with KK hp batch 4….however a sample of batch 6 was impressive! I bought the KK hp batch 8 which I’ve heard great things about as well. Seems like some age has done it well. But at over $100 now… I’m not getting backups. Batch 7 is also available but I passed simply for budget constraints. Cheers 🥃
It has coloring. Says it on my bottle. Batch 16 is pretty fruity in my opinion. Reminds me a lot of Laphroaig Quarter Cask on steroids. Very tasty. One of the better batches of the CS 10. Actually among the top 5 imho. I liked your "candy cigarettes" note. ❤ I know what you mean.
