I recently tried both and came to similar conclusions. My 18 was definitely more sherried than my 17 (from let's say 2016). Batch variations, of course. I clearly remember an older batch of 17 (from around 2014) being much more sherried. The new 12 though is a pretty poor dram, while the old 12 was a very nice entry level dram. I also had the opportunity to compare them recently. Cheers!
Thanks for this review, I’ve only had the 12 but I really want to explore old pulteney more this year. These 2 are out of my price range so it was really nice to experience these through you. It seems like even though the 17 is a little better, the 18 isn’t a bad replacement, cheers!
Hey terrific comparison John! Very interesting! I'd like to try a more aged Old Pultney. I recently tried the 12 and didn't like it all. Kind of undrinkable for me actually. I gave the bottle to a friend. I'm hoping a more aged expression is more complex and enjoyable! Thanks for the great video!! Cheers! 🙂
@@justwhisky No I had the 12 a couple of times with friends or out at a restaurant, once or twice, a few years ago, and I didn't like it but wanted to try it one more time so I bought bottle to explore. I think it's probably just not for me. I do like the Huddart! I enjoy the bit of smoke! But I will definitely try an older, more aged expression!! It happens! Usually I love what I am trying and I always learn from different expressions of whiskies!! Cheers John!!
@@justwhisky Yes!! Right on John!! That made it fine to give the 12 another try and then pass it on to a friend who absolutely enjoys Old Pulteney 12!! She adores the 18 too!! I hope you are having a terrific day!! Cheers! 🙂
