It only depends on what party controls the Presidency for creating nominations, and the Senate for confirming them. Amy Coney Barrett for example is very conservative and was rushed through her confirmation 8 days before an election to replace the very liberal Ruth Bader Ginsburg who had just passed.
Actually, as SCOTUS justice, he needs to maintain a certain public neutrality. If Trump is impeached by the House and then convicted by the Senate, he may have to vote to back up Congress should Trump try to fight the ruling. For the sake of national unity and stability, at that point it will be very important that the conservative judges vote together with the liberal judges to uphold the rule of law. What we learn from this interview is that Gorsuch can be trusted to be objective; thus, we should not want him to say anything that might require a recusal down the road.

Sure in Kazakhstan it is corrupt, some African countries too. Most of Vestern world court and political system is as free, or more free, than US. @@jsperess Well, none of those things have come true. Roe is still in place, and he has said multiple times that there is no desire to overturn it. He recently authored the majority opinion on the decision to extend the Civil Rights Act to protect LGBTQ individuals. He also sided with the majority in allowing Trump to be subpoenaed for his tax returns. The fact that all of you were so afraid of Neil Gorsuch of all people is outstanding to me. Nobody could be more deserving of a seat on the SCOTUS.

At least in the UK there is very little political influence on judges, who are appointed by peers, on merit. Our judiciary is much more independent than US. Sorry, but I strongly disagree that US has the best judiciary. The spectacle of the last Supreme Court appointment was shocking, US should be ashamed.

There is no job with higher social status than Supreme Court justice. It's not about serving the country. He talks about the independence of the 3 branches of govt. and gives political responses. The Supreme Court is NOT political.
His first statement is so arrogant. "Go and spend 6 weeks in a court in any other country". Most of Europe (British, Scandinavian, German, French.. Just to name a few) justice systems are far more balanced, fair, strong and open compared to today's USA. We don't elect our judges and prosecutors witch led to agendas in both sentencing and what crimes and citizens that get targeted. When people get arrested we don't have "bail" witch hurt the weak. We don't let police get away with murder because voting stats and wanting the "police endorsement". We don't make money on private jails and free inmate labor. Fact is their is some much weird political and capitalistic things that factor In to American justice it's hard to call anything about them fair. At least looking in from the outside. I'm a swede and just the reaction from Americans when it came to that ASAP ordeal was just such an clear example of how many got upset that this rich man couldn't just buy his way out of trouble. What I really like about Neil Gorsuch is that, much like Chief Justice John Roberts, he is a Conservative but is able to be open-minded enough to agree and side with the Liberal judges at times. I therefore think that when Roberts resigns or passes away, Gorsuch would be the best choice replace him as Chief Justice.

Gorsuch is an interesting figure within the Supreme Court. I have mixed opinions since he was the judge that filled in the vacancy that should have been given to Merrick Garland. Now, I agree with Gorsuch on the importance of the Judiciary especially within the United States in comparison with the rest of the world. However, I do question his judgement on certain cases but that's more about our different perspectives on given issues as I'm predominantly Liberal and Gorsuch is a Conservative Judge...at least in my view. One thing I will give him credit for is that he called Merrick Garland and showed him respect given the uncivilized approach that the Senate took in order to block Garland's nomination. Overall, I have mixed thoughts about Gorsuch; however, he is someone who I would like to discuss certain cases with as I want to hear what goes his mind on cases especially Partisan Gerrymandering, Abortion, and The arguments by certain individuals that there should be a Reformation within the Supreme Court to remove Partisan decisions within cases.

I heard this and me (living in England, UK) thought... - we don’t have to pay for bail - we don’t have massive waits for court dates - we don’t have the death penalty - we don’t have the highest rate of incarceration in the world - we don’t force people into plea deals to save money and time - we didn’t have a period of mass incarceration due to racism like the US - we don’t have lifetime Supreme Court judges picked by the prime minister to advance a political gain Someone PLEASE tell me what’s so good about the US court system??
