Ironically, nobody announced Keith Giffen's death.I found out about through this video alone. It's really messed up considering the contributions he gave to DC with this Justice League run.I was hoping to meet him one day but now he's in a better place.R.I.P.,Keith Giffen.I'm picking up this book to your memory because it was a key part of my childhood.
A while back I sold off most of my floppies. Then I bought a house that came with a whole wall of built-in bookshelves, giving me impetus to start collecting some of my favorite storylines in omnibus form. Your channel and its archive have been invaluable in helping me judicially select volumes to purchase. I especially want to thank you for recommending the JLI omnis. I had wanted to read that series since "Formerly Known As the Justice League" came out and never did. Then I learned from your channel that these collections even existed, and soon after found incredible sales on Amazon for all three. Fully enjoying JLI for the first time! Thank you!!
I have been waiting soooooòoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long for this!!!😊 I originally found out about this series through Wizard. They had a Hidden treasures (gems?) Section featuring the JLI and I hunted down ever single issue.
So excited to be getting this book and a happy surprise they included the 80 page giant and the 2 JL minis from the early aughts! Much of this is new to me so looking fwd to reading it with early Robertson work along with Maguire, Sears and Sprouse!
I could not resist anymore. I read those awesome DeMatteis-Giffen Justice League series when they were being published as monthlies. Sold them about 15 years ago to get rid of long boxes in my household, however, I went to my LCS today and ordered all three volumes after viewing your video. Brought back tons of great memories. Can't wait to re-read Justice League Annual #4 (1990)! P,S, More G'Nort...
I loved this era of Justice League. I started after Justice League Europe (International) started and became a devoted fan. Loses some of it's heart after they re-introduce Superman and Wonder Woman to the team.
I'm really surprised that DC did not remove the writers name (the one that went to jail for unspeakable crimes) from the credits. Omar, another great review. How do you get your DC books before everyone else for reviews? I know you don't have the same relationship with DC that you have with Marvel but I was just wondering.
Great overview, the book arrived to me and looks amazing. I have one of the infamous messed up printings of volume 1. It's really annoying. Some words are unreadable. I've been struggling to get through it.
Great stuff!!! Love the JLI!!! And Jumpin' Blue Beetle! A REAL omnibus! This ain't no panzy Marvel omni that is really only an oversized hardcover collection! You get your money's worth with this one. DC has always been my favorite comic publisher and this is one of the reasons why. They could be greedy like Marvel and make us buy three oversized HC collections for 75 to 125 a pop when they could put all that material in one omni for 150 like DC. The Mouse is an insidious greedy entity that feeds on our souls and wallets. Beware the Mouse!
@@davidgraham8299 No meds here! Don't take any medication, not even aspirin. Haven't since a kid. I think the problem is everyone else is on meds! 😄😄😄!!!
Considering the author of Justice League Europe who also wrote issues of Justice League America starting around issue 92(?), I'm not confident DC will reprint any of those stories.
JLI ticked all right boxrs at the right time. A concept that appealed to eveyone across the world, and others that followed or try to immediate just failed. My book arrive a few days ago and although not opened yet, the blub on the back made me smile and laugh. Not bad for something not shy of £100 ukp. I havehes that we will get the rest of this run and have high hopes that DC won't ignore the 80's-90's yearscwhen they were producing sime good stories and art. Unlike now. Nice review, as usual. A boo, well prsented and would had sold it to me if i hadn't had read most of the run as flopies
😄I almost caved in when Omar lined up All 3 Omni's together, ☝But then i remembered - At this time in history MARVEL was k🦶cking DC's ass with "X-Books, Spidey books, New Warriors Silver Suffer, Infinity Saga". Other than the DC cross-over events and The Flash i wasn't to fund of most of these stories
@@davidgraham8299Yeah.. but for me it feels like a whole different team. Even the characters act like they’re other persons. Although it is a continuation, it seems like it is only in cover numbering…
@@drelima1978 Yep, completely agree. Jurgens was out of his depth following the Giffen/DeMatteis team. So even if they do a Vol. 4 I'm happy to get Vol 3 and stop there.
I usually find that to mean that the characters are genuine, and they have compassion and empathy for one another, even when a series is known it’s humor (like this book) or if something is even violent and over the top (like Preacher). A lot of the character interactions feel real and feels like they are real, 3 dimensional people. Biggest example of comics for me that don’t have a lot of heart is the entire Ultimate universe (minus Spider-Man)
@@odan-urr thanks, I think I get it now. It's more about the characters than the story, for example: LotR would have heart, Rings of Power not so much.
