This is one of my favorite episodes in the season. The reveal of Grodd's plan as being so silly and Lex's subsequent takeover is absolutely awesome, as is all the stuff with Deadman and his vendetta against Devil Ray. Plus having the Trinity at the forefront of an episode is always a win, especially when you get some possession shenanigans out of it.
Dead Man is in the part of the Justice League that is called Justice League Dark. There is animated movie called this. It is a team Batman puts together Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Eterigan and other magical members of the League. Dr Fate would be part of this team too I suppose. Guillermo Del Toro was supposed to direct a JL Dark movie but WB couldn’t come to agreement on how to do it so they canceled it and put some of the ideas into the first Suicide Squad movie. That is why the squad is fighting a magical threat.
8:04 can we just give props to the animators here. This fight scene looks pretty cool for a random episode. This is the kind of thing I’d expect from a season finale. Edit: Also good to see cheetahs still alive. I thought Grundy killed her all the way back in the original series.
I actually like how Batman emphasizes that they should do this for justice, and not vengeance. Yes, Batman‘s whole thing is “I am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman“ but how I always interpreted that is his vengeance for all who have been wrong by crime and corruption. And he’s not taking revenge, he is avenging others, by bringing those who have wronged them to justice. The vengeance dead man is talking about. It’s just flat out revenge. An eye for an eye. Now we can debate all day, about which mindset is correct, but I believe that Batman stands for something more than just taking revenge. If that was all he was after he would’ve stopped being Batman after tracking down Joe Chill. But that is just my interpretation
I think that's a good interpretation but I just see it as Batman is older and more experienced in this show. When he started off he was a lot more closed off and cold and brutal and focusing on vengeance. But now after having Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and the Justice League he's changed to be more open and moral and says Justice Not Vengeance like he teaches Damian in the new 52 movies
originally Cheetah was going to be killed by Grundy back in the Injustice League episode. Animators messed up and included her when the villains were being taken away by the police. Thats why she wasn't in the episode Fury (with the evil amazon trying to wipe out men and teaming up with the injustice gang minus lex) at this point they just needed villains to fill up the Legion Of Doom, so they included her
@@srstriker6420 they wanted at least Riddler and Scarecrow, since like Cheetah they were in the original legion Heatwave may have been a replacement for Firefly in the viking episode
All the villains with Luthor and Grodd are causing trouble again, at the town hidden of apes living peacefully being under attack yet again. As Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman aid Deadman from the mess and what happened to his master, same with Manta Ray's fate, Yeah...And Luthor to take over the Legion of Doom next to think no one else but himself, not good at all.
I just found out one of the directors of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was Joaquim Dos Santos, who's directed half of the episodes in Justice League Unlimited and the finale - and several episodes & finale for Avatar: The Last Airbender, dude is a beast! Dan Riba directed this episode, but the next and every other one is Dos Santos. But it's crazy to learn that my new favorite Spidey movie and favorite cartoon shows were made by the same dude! With him also having a history of making killer finales for each series he's in... I'm super hyped for Beyond the Spider-Verse next year!
Deadman's actually first appearance in the DCAU continuity was in the comic Batman and Robin Adventures #15. I've been meaning to ask if you have read the tie-in comics to the DCAU? If not I highly recommend them because they help flesh out the world and have some amazing stories. If you want to read them I recommend doing so after you finish Batman the Animated Series and continuing on from there.
I don’t know if you’ve seen Dc Enthusiast, but it looks like you’re about to catch up to his Justice League reactions. It’s pretty funny since he started watching almost two years before you.
Gorilla Grodd: trash💀. You're telling me that with his "advanced intellect," his masterplan was to turn the planet into apes🤡. Not condoning their actions, but the villains were putting up numbers against MYSTIC MONKS and MONKEY CITY for this?!🤣 Luthor just might be the hero for taking him out, and clearly so were the other villains because they didn't try to stop him😂. They probably got tired of paying Grodd for protection 🥳.
Gorilla Grodd really thought this plan was gonna slide with all the villains. They need to stop hitting Grodd in the head mans loosing it.🤣 Only good thing lex did all show was taking care of Grodd.
I have to admit the fact that grodds plan was just to turn all of humanity into apes seems a bit half baked to be honest. Like I understand that grodd hates humans and believes that apes are superior. But he didn't seem to have anything beyond turning everyone into apes. Like how was he supposed to rule over them when everyone still seemed to still be themselves even though they were turned into apes, it's not like they were being minded controlled or inslaved by grodd. I do love how even in ape form lex is still a hairless ape! 🤣
Everyone was really hard on Deadman because all he wants is to rest in peace and that Devil Rays death was an accident and I like Superman’s face on killing Zod in Man of Steel because that make him a huge hypocrite
I also liked how lex revealed that he was waiting patiently for the right time to literally pull a gun on grodd to betray him and he chooses right now after seeing that grodd's plan failed because it was such a half baked idea 💡 😂
R.I.P to Devil Ray even though he was a stand in for black manta. I still can't believe that Deadman made batman accidentally kill devil ray and with a gun of all things! The type of weapon that batman has throughout the DCAU has stated that he has a hatred towards. ( obviously because of what happened to his parents ) but the look on batmans face said it all of how this is going to effect him more on a psychological level.
@@RealFatherJohn At this point they weren't allowed to use Aquaman because a live action Aquaman movie that never came out was in the works. Same reason they couldn't use Black Manta
