Justin Hawkins is everything I want in a rockstar: wildly talented, intelligent, charming, and doesn't take himself too seriously. Plus, he's a genuinely nice human being with a great sense of humor. How does it get any better than that ?! 💋
Justin's Podcast is the best. Didn't really know anything about The Darkness here in the states I had seen them on RU-vid ,I had heard of them ...just didn't pay attention ... I started watching his podcast and I'm working backwards from there!
This man is a comedic genius,he’s a highly talented musician and as live ,fucking Whooa they more than cut it,check out Justin Hawkins rides again he’s a boss
Big time. I've gone back and forth my entire life (currently thin again) and it's a mindfuck. The way you carry yourself, your confidence and social projection becomes skewed. It's something guys don't talk about as they're "not supposed to care" many of us do.
I think Justin Hawkins is the cats pyjamas. He handled the difficult subject matter in this interview with aplomb and like a few commenters on here, I simply adore his RU-vid channel.
What a transformation he did! Love his YT channel. And I'm not only talking about his good looks. He really healed and shines these days. I knew about the drug problems but not this. Feel sorry for him and also that he was forced to talk about it here in such an insensitive way.
I just discovered The Darkness recently. I don’t know how I missed them, but it’s like finding a treasure trove. This Justin Hawkins is fucking brilliant and funny and and just a dynamo of talent and wit. Love this dude.
i think the fact he talked about male bulimia was incrediably brave never heard a man talk about it and i am sure it is much more prevelant than we know. i have eating disorders but all the help seems to be directed at women, incrediabley brave of him, love him
He was asked about it and had no choice. But what is this obsession with women trying to get men to share their personal problems with strangers? Every single asshole on the internet has a sob story and it's not brave, it's narcissistic. You do't actually care about other peoples' problems, you just dont want to be the only one who's not dealing with it on their own. And from personal experience, when men open up women just poke at the wound.
The stomach acid would mess up your vocal chords… Besides predispose you to other oesophageal diseases like cancer. It bloody well should be talked about if you’re a singer.
thats because back then, bulemia wasnt something that was taken seriously as an illness. it was seen as the thing runway models did to stay skinny and nobody cared
If I could be in an English rock band, it would be the Darkness, good songs, no bullshit, still got the sound of the pub gig about them, real really and super cool!
Justin is for sure a very very unique super talented, creative, blessed and rare find kind of a man! He's been through though challenging episodes but boy did he bounce back and came out guns blazing. Thank you for being quirky, funny, super charming and humble and for being way to cute when you smile and your eyes light up! Ok ok I'll stop before I write a poem. Guess I just wanna say thank you all for the amazing music, lyrics, guitar solos and for making me feel joy, love and alive! You are all amazing and I luuuve you!
Wowww.. all those platitudes for "Peter Frampton"... well, I like him too!!! "Frampton Comes Alive!!!".. (you need to listen to that one Sholtzy) "Rockin' album!"
I just came across this. So glad to only know the new Justin I love. You've done so well brother. In a Franky Howard voice 'well done my boy' Good on you mate.
Yeah me too 👍 I' m real y really glad especially here in the UK with the whole ' stiff upper lip' bollocks that boys& men are finally openly talking about their emotions & eating disorders in particular ! I' ve gone through the major extremes myelf with bulima/ extreme weight gain / los s and the horrid effects it can have on tbe teeth etc and thinking back to the 80' s I know for a fact some of my male mates who were in rock bands had similar demons and men just shut up and put up in tnose days ..we all hid so much through heavy drug use in the 80' s & 90' s especially amphetamines...We all looked fantastic ..now paying the price big time 30 yrs on.Really hope M you continue to beat your demons ..we NEED you here a good while yet ;) 🤘
I fuckin' love this guy. Legend. Didn't appreciate him at the time, RU-vid was the game changer. Particularly recently when they looked at "Thing called love". I got annoyed at myself for not liking it straight away. Now a fan. "Good day to you Sir; for I am Justin Hawkins..." LOL.
That was pretty good. Justin seemed a little nervous, but he DID HOLD HIS OWN. He didn't let the host step all over him and he did give him a jab or two letting him know that he could give him a good fight. Great interview. I thought Justin looked great too. He talked too much about his weight, which I didn't think was an issue. He looked wonderful. 🥰😘🤗😍👍❤🌸.
I had a good friend in the 90' s & when she gave birth to her first son he wouldn't get out of bed in the morning to go to nursey unless she cranked this song on full pelt downsta irs & he'd jump out of bed dancing like a maniac wearing his Bob t he Builder pyjamas..😂😂Funny..I.used to do EXACTLY the same thing as a 5 yrvold in 1972 to Ballroom Bitz by The Sweet..that song 50 yrs later is still sonic !..I had to suffer the wrath of course of my moth r telling my boyfriends about my glam rock toddler violent morning head banging sessions..ir went on until I.was 7 ..lol and T - Rex & Bowie were added into my morning repertoire!😂
Justin is a very smart and humble guy, he had his addictions and problems back here but let's not mince words, this man can SING and play. I never saw The Darkness as retro. He just kept that sort of music going, it's not a joke, it's Rock & Roll and he lives it. And bless him for talking about his eating disorder.
Ross dragged him to it and he was clearly not super ready to discuss it, but it was refreshing to me that Justin talked about his eating disorder and the pressure to be lithe
a dear, sweet lad. Justin's heart always shown through the cheeky rockstar bravado. He went through hell being in frantic worldwide demand for the three years it took to burn himself out. Tremendously pleased he made it safely to the other side, as he's a lovely articulate, genuine and gentle man. Unfortunate, Mr Ross so blatantly touched a nerve on things Justin has not been keen to talk about. yet, he is the consummate pro and fields the ick with grace always. we love you, Justin! edit - note, he didn't dawdle in taking his arse outta there; hardly a handshake. Also, the comment about the falsetto he didn't appreciate. Justin does not consider his high range as falsetto. He explains it as the way he lets air in to sing in a higher register. The falsetto he rarely uses.
It seems utterly impossible and surreal that a band like this were ever in the charts... the charts and music in general have sucked absolute balls since the late 2000’s
80's* Looking outside of personal taste, 80's was FULL of manufactured clones and identical sounding shit, that was the real start of it The 90's had identical sounding Rock bands, the only real highlights I guess were some decent grunge bands like Pearl Jam and Garbage but even then, the vocalists had no identity Early 00's when Pop Punk blew up was a good time, because even though everyone was the same it was still upbeat. So, since the 80's, the only good thing to happen to the charts was Pop Punk because it was catchy, upbeat, AND they wrote and played themselves. Individuality will never come back tho.
...it was a different time....The early 1970's, apparently No, who cares what I think, I'm just a dick on the internet; I may not like his music (or his general taste in music) but he seems lovely and I respect his ongoing commitment to his recovery from substance abuse. Much respect to the guy, fr
Hmm, one minute Wossy is saying eating disorders and weight is something men seem to shy away from discussing, the next he takes a masked pop at Elton John’s physique…
its funny how Woss's show degenerated into a vacuous plugging advertisement for whatever Latest product is on sale ...-it demonstrates perfectly the dumbing down of british society and the doing away with the standards we used to take for granted....that woss show now makes me sick ....
Oh man.....Justin's face when Johnathan brought up the anorexia issues......"oh yes Mr.Ross I would love to talk about my personal demons that I've been struggling with on television for all to see!"
