Impossibly impressive...seems like his fingers are fighting the guitar but the body and voice are floating above it all to nail “the thing of it” that makes this version transcendent. So great. 😢
Well said. I didn’t know he even existed until I saw a story that he died and then I began listening to him. It’s not music I typically listen to, but he is so gifted and how can you not want to listen to him.
This is my favorite artist doing one of my favorite songs. Two of my favorite things in the world combining like it was meant for me. one of those videos that i cant explain how much i appreciate it being posted. I dearly, dearly thank you for sharing this moment.
So sad, so brilliant. I didn’t know this song (embarrassed to admit), but what an emotional version it is. Justin always manages to impart raw emotion and sadness in his music and it brings me to tears. But at the same time as feeling sad for his premature passing I feel supremely grateful for having access to such heavenly material. It really is out of this world. Another level. Would love to have seen him perform live.
When Bruce sings this it sounds like he is living it in the present and looking ahead to the future in parts, while this version seems more melancholy from a perspective of looking back into the past.
May your sweet soul rest peacefully. We thank you, Mr. Justin Townes Earle for the moments. You left us far too soon but a piece of you will always remain. You will never be forgotten. May your sweet soul rest in peace for all eternity. Sláinte Chugat... 🍀 🎶 💜 🍀
Saw the truly unique JTE in my hometown of Glasgow, Scotland last night- a privilege indeed! I know (and love) this original song well and this is a very beautiful rendition. It's lovely to experience music so raw and honest.
No doubt. He is unique, & he puts on this great performance. Very retro in his vibe. I would go see him again in a minute. I took my son for his first concert to see JTE, cause he wanted to go with me. We got in front of the stage for the whole concert. It was amazing..& my son, along with me was thrilled we got to see him perform
I see a lot of people raving about Springsteen covers on RU-vid, but this one actually is really really good. I don't know about it being better than Springsteen's version, I think you still have to give the nod to the person who actually wrote the music, arrangement and lyrics. This is great through.
There’s an old video of Josh Ritter covering “The River”, where he’s just playing it in someone’s living room, just casual jam session vibes. It’s still on RU-vid, if you search “Josh Ritter covers Springsteen in The Apartment”- check it out. It’s another transcendant Boss cover.
@@ocan1033 LOL. People transcribe lyrics by ear and get it wrong all the time on RU-vid. Check out Bruce singing the phrase in this video: (4:10) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fT4pSt4kie8.html
@@holyworrier Then every single transcriber has been wrong on this one, including the liner notes from "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" because there's not a single example of it with "aches" in place of "hate." And he says "hates" on the example you give, in his Jersey accent, slightly curtailing the "h" at the start of "hates" ('ates' ..) . Sorry Chief, you may have a better lyric, but you don't have one Bruce wrote.
@@holyworrier For a non-Jersey annunciation, check out Emmy Lou Harris's version here. (Yeah, I know, she got it wrong.) Seriously .. there isn't a single example in transcription or live performance, including the one you gave, of "aches" replacing "hates." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PNt0qk-EkDM.html
@@holyworrier And here's one from the man himself, slurring it slightly less and clearly annunciating the "t" in "hates" : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yYf3mCEVAnU.html
@Valerie Barber - is there anyway you could make me a DVD of your youtube vids from the library concert? I'm a huge JTE fan, and i'd like to take it to show my grandparents, but they have no internet and no computer....
Mmm. Sorry. My experience with this version is, it's really, really, really, bad. Droney and emotionless. And the near ukelele acoustic is grating. Check out EmmyLou or Micky and the Motorcars.
Well I have to say I agree with you on some things. I don't think this is a particularly bad cover, but I also don't like the guitar playing and I miss a little emotion too.
