I have this beauty myself since mid 80’s. Had a long rest but now I am using it a bit more. Just about to mount an Ortofon 2M red with an Audio Technica headshell on it.
Sweet table. That's the one thing about my Pro Ject that I don't like: you have to wait a couple seconds for the platter to get up to speed. On my old Pioneer PL 600, it was the same as yours, start it up and in, like, a second, it was up to speed ready to go.
Nice to see another RU-vid review of the JVC QL-Y5F, which is my primary turntable! It was a serious upgrade going from my Pro-Ject Debut Carbon and I especially love the automatic features on it. I'm currently using the Nagaoka MP-110, Ortofon 2M Bronze, and the Stanton 681EEE II-S (with the original barely used stylus that came with the turntable I bought used) and no problems to speak of! BTW, what pressing of Dexter Gordon's Go did you spin? I own the Music Matters pressing and I absolutely love it. :)
i have that same table and i have a tracking force gauge, but how do you use it? when the platter spins? tracking force is applied electronically only when table is on?
I have just bought one these beautiful beasts, all working and in good order. It seems to have the original cartridge, but I can't find what tracking force to apply? Anyone?
@@cubeXpert .175 grams unless you want to hear side "B" when playing side "A". Way to heavy at 1.75. Pitch at +/- 2dgr over TDC reliably done automatically @ 60xPS. which is the feature that JVC did first and did best. Kenwood, Dual, and others tried to copy with various success and failure.
Nice informative video! Appreciate the narration, too many videos just showing turntables being used with no explanation of features or what to expect etc.. Does this turntable recognize if you put on a 7" 45 versus a 12" 33, and will it know where to place the tone arm and adjust speed? Even with automatic I assume you could change to 45rpm on 12" for those records. I know some Denon's of the same era use optical beam to detect what size record and adjust accordingly. Techmoan does a nice video of a Denon DP 47F with these features. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eenl2f0o6AQ.html Thanks again for the video!
Hi, thanks for watching. This model does not automatically detect the record size. It has buttons on the front to select the size and speed. My Technics SL-1600mk2 has that feature, which works great until you put a transparent record on there. :)
