Great video. Those tape mechanism can be a pain to take apart. I have seen another RU-vid video where he put the belts in boiling water for a while. I have tried it and it seem to shrinks the belt a little and did work.
Great video. you explained it very well. Nicely done. Thank you for posting!! I just got me a JVC R838C from a co worker in MINT condition. Here's my issue so far, When ever I slide the balance slider one side cuts out and hear scratchy noise. If I just tap on it, it will intermittently work, If I press on it then slide it to left / Right it works. Also, the tape mechanism start off slow then eventually will play the tapes. When doing a fast/cue it starts to spin then stops spinning. Do you have a shop and do repairs on these?
Hi: I can answer real quick (we are on vacation). First problem sounds like dirty controls. You need to get electronic contact cleaner with lube--it might do the job. Second problem could be loose belt. All belts always need to be replaced; most have been in there for decades. I don't have a shop and nowadays only do electronics for a hobby. I got out of the electronics field and am staying out of it.
